Video Day 133

[Martha looks calmer and much better rested than she has any other time anyone's seen her in recent posts. She also looks mildly amused and perhaps slightly dazed.]

Either I had the most vivid dream of being stuck in a town called Cape Kore and then traveling through tunnels to this place, or I really was here two years ago. And unfortunately with my life, it seems the latter is more likely.

How long have I been away here?

[Cue one relieved-looking Valkyrie.]

I was worried. Did you say two years?

[The other woman seems familiar. Martha tries not to look too obvious as she tries to figure out who she is.]

Two years, yes. I'm guessing it was less than that here then?

[Meja cants her head to the side.]

Much less. It was a few days.

[Vanishing for two years on one side and two days on the other is... just a little difficult to wrap her head around. She frowns.]

Hm... that is very strange. Definitely a different temporal space. Oh the Doctor would know...

[She focuses on the woman again and looks her over more determined to remember.]

We walked here together. Through the tunnels.

[She nods.]

Yes. My name is Meja, if that helps ring a few more bells. I haven't seen the Doctor, as of late, but I'm sure someone knows where he's holed up.

[Have an apologetic smile.]

I'm sorry. My memory is usually better. It's coming back... piecemeal. I'd like it better if it came back all at once of course.

He'll make his way out of whatever hidey-hole he's found eventually. He always does.

Don't worry, that's... this place's fault. It's none of your own. [Meja smiles back.] I take it things are coming back slowly?

Slowly yes. I remember some things... most to do with the Doctor. And some of the big events. There was a sea monster attack I believe, and then the town we all lived in collapsed. Last thing I remember were the ghosts.

Yes, the ghosts were around for quite a few days and then... vanished again. I'm still not sure what caused their arrival, much less their departure.

And that was just a few days ago. I don't like this time skipping....

I hadn't considered that such a great amount of time would occur on one side and not the other. But in the grand scheme of things, I suppose I've not been here long.

[Others have lived through friends doing this more often.]

[See! Memories!]

And... did I ask you to try to teach me magic?

[Meja smiles, nodding.]

That's right. I think you thought I was a phantom, at first.

I wasn't sleeping

[Martha smiled softly at the memory.]

I likely thought you were a hallucination come to plague me.

I get that more often than you'd think.

[On Midgard, at least.]

Well, I'm glad you're not a hallucination. As I recall, you're also the one who made sure I left the town. Got me out of the clinic moments before it collapsed.

[Meja chuckles. She's glad, too!]

Yes, I sort of... rounded people up.

[She'd lost track of Shiala, and worries about that, but at least most of the town seems to have made the transfer.]

I'm used to doing it.

Usually that's my job. Round everyone up, get them to safety, then go back and do what I can to help the helpless.

That sounds familiar.

[Though sometimes, Meja has to direct other people to do it. Because she has to keep her eye on other things, rather than what she'd naturally gravitate towards. Being in a position of authority is, at times, uncomfortable for her.]

They do say doctors make terrible patients.

[She smiles teasingly.]

They'd be completely and totally correct! We're used to being in control. Fixing people. Do you know how hard it is to admit you don't know how to fix yourself?

[Meja laughs.]

I'm all too familiar, though most of my injuries I can take care of myself if I have to.

[The more serious the injury, the more tired she is after. Sometimes that's all right, and sometimes she needs to remain alert. That's where Valkyrie medics come in. And it can be hard to admit that you're injured, especially if it was for a stupid reason. But ultimately, you have to — to move on.]

If you get settled in and find you still want to learn magic, let me know.

I'll likely get settled whether I want to or not. I should find that lab that I was in originally.

And I'll definitely want to learn magic if possible.

[She nods.]

The infirmary's still there in working order, as far as I know, if it hasn't gotten up and moved elsewhere.

Then I guess I'll take a wander soon to go searching.
