Bruce Banner | 015 | Video

[ He never knows how to start these things, so this time, he cuts to the chase.

This glowing orb is not Bruce's face, and it isn't exactly a perfect orb, either; its shape changes sometimes, rippling a bit, but it stays mostly spherical. It's glowing blue, sort of a Tesseract-y blue in Bruce's slightly trauamtized opinion, but the Tesseract doesn't have a monopoly on colors.

The camera swivels back to Bruce, his glasses pulled down his nose. ]

Anyone lose a pet? I didn't see a collar, so I've been calling it the blue semiliquid sphere exhibiting properties of organic life fused with some technological readings, probably alien in origin. That is, alien to me.

Sound like something anyone's missing? It's a cute little guy.

[ He smiles and pulls his glasses off. ] Really, I've hit my limit, so if anyone has any tips or if anyone wants to help me poke and prod at this thing, come see me in my lab.

[ Yeah, he claimed a lab. So what! ]

[Meja looks at the sphere curiously, trying to place it as a Dwarven or Elven creation. Or Asgardian, even. But it doesn't seem to match any of them, not exactly. Were it a creation of any of the three, it would have solid, identifiable markers.]

I can come have a look, if you'd like, but my area of knowledge is magic, not science.

I'm not ruling out magic, or science-fueled magic, as the case may be. [ He's heard some things from Jane, after all. ]

Any new eyes right now are better than none, if you think you can offer anything up.

It's difficult for me to get a feel over these devices. I might be able to sense something about it to give you something to go on. But no promises. Which lab is it that you've taken to?

[There are a fair few of them. Luckily, or unluckily. Depending on your point of view.]

Yeah, of course. I think it's Lab 5. [ He's chosen one of the ones that look the most like labs he recognizes, but with the least amount of bizarre bodies in jars. ]

[Meja thinks for a moment. That's next to the one she goes to to test seeds and plants, if it's the one she's thinking of. She nods.]

I'll be there soon, if that works for you. Everyone's taken care of, in here.

[No crazy incidents in the plant lab today, for once.

Given that the labs are in the general vicinity, it will only take a few minutes to find the lab that has a Bruce Banner in it. Hopefully. Unless she steps off into the twisting nether by accident.]

Works for me. [ Bruce is ready and waiting with his glasses perched on his nose and a notebook in front of him with a few ideas jotted down. ]

[When she arrives, Meja has Roland the white lab rat in one hand, observing everything around them. Sometimes he stays in her room, sometimes he doesn't.

She gives Bruce a smile, holding out her other hand.]

Hei hei. My name is Meja, I don't remember if I've introduced myself before.

Oh, Bruce Banner. [ Just in case. He extends his hand and gives hers a firm shake, though when he retracts his hand, he holds them in front of him for a second. ]

And who's your friend? Are you sure being here isn't going to put him through a traumatic experience?

Don't worry, he's from these labs. I found him wandering when we got here. If we weren't here, they'd belong to his kind.

[Roland starts cleaning his face, unconcerned by his surroundings while he's riding his blonde meal ticket.]

But if you mean the object... [She tilts her head and takes a few steps closer, trying to sense any magic within it.] ...well, I suppose we'll see.

Please, have a look. Let me know what you might pick up.

[ OOC: If you want Meja to touch it, it can feel however you want it to; it can react differently to different people touching it, and potentially also give out different readings! ]

[The object is ambiguous, at best, though Meja is vaguely reminded of Asgardian artifacts as she stares at it. Gently, she presses a few fingers to the side of it. She's somewhat startled by the fact that, to her, it feels like the third or fourth freezing of a pond. Slick ice, with something behind it... something...]

What does it feel like to you?

[She furrows her brow.]

Is it cold?

Cold? No. [ Well, now he has to touch it again, even if he's recorded how it felt when he first attempted it. He moves in again and lightly touches the surface, which is gel-like, and warms when he touches it. ]

No, it's... squishy. And it gets warmer when I touch it. Huh. [ He picks up a pen and starts writing things down. ]

...Curious.

[Meja retracts her hand to eye the object.]

Certain magic might be able to do that, where I'm from, but we'd see the runes unless it was made by a very powerful Aesir. [Which — well — isn't out of the running, Meja supposes. But...] I'm not sensing anything like that from it, however.

But not entirely out of the realm of the familiar here. Something that changes based on individual perception sounds like our friend, the Machine.

[ He stops writing to look at the orb for a long moment. ]

Could be same place of origin, or at least run the same... perception filter?

You're right. [She hadn't thought about that, the appearance of the Machine shifting to look like whatever impressive thing its viewer knew of.] It isn't similar to what I see when I look at the Machine, but the effect...

[Is that good, or bad?]

Perhaps the Machine brought it here, like it brought us.

[ Is that good or bad is the question of the day, isn't it? Bruce can't seem to decide either. ]

Probably. I don't trust that the scientists really knew any of what they were doing.

So the question is... Friend or foe? Is it like the machine, or is it like us?

They did seem to be... pushing buttons and observing the results at random.

[It's hard to tell, given that all of their information is gone. But the town had never seemed very organized.

Meja pauses at the implication that the object could be their 'friend', looking at it more closely once again.]

Do you think it has a consciousness?

I was speaking at least halfway metaphorically.

[ But if he is drawing comparisons to the machine, then there's some question of consciousness there, isn't there? ]

I'm not convinced it's a life form, but is it a weapon? Is it just going to float benevolently forever?

I think, until you discover what it does, you should most definitely treat it as a weapon. Just in case.

[How many Dwarven traps look harmless until they spring? Too many.]

Have you observed it doing anything else?

[ That is some good thinking, especially now that Bruce has already done some perhaps not so secure things with it. ]

So far, no. I'd feel a lot better if I could figure out what it is -- maybe even what it's made of, but the samples I take aren't all that conclusive. Nothing I recognize, anyway.

I appreciate you coming out here to take a look at it, though.

It's no trouble at all. [She glances down at the orb again.] The way people arrive here, especially lately, perhaps someone will eventually recognize it and be able to tell us what it is. I'm only sorry that I don't, but it doesn't carry any of the markers I'd recognize from the Nine Realms.

That's okay. In the grand scheme of things, it was probably a longshot considering how big of a fishing hole this machine is using.

[Meja chuckles, nodding. Sometimes, you have to use a long shot because it's the only one you have. Case in point.]

I'm certain we'll figure out what it does, eventually.
