[ In contrast, the next public announcement over the communicators is much more calm. So calm it's almost eerie, in fact, like all the emotion has been completely drained from the voice that rings out. ]

Since we're all on red alert anyway, I'd like to report another missing person. My housemate, Balthazar. I haven't seen him around, and I am starting to grow concerned. If people could keep an eye out for him while looking, I would appreciate it greatly.

[ Yeah, it's definitely eerie. Calm is almost cold in this instance, and after a short stretch of silence there's a soft rustle of sound in the background, then she finishes speaking. ]

If anyone needs me, I'll be out looking. Thanks.

Describe him for me. I'm already out looking for Party Poison's friend. I'll add yours to my search.

Around five eleven, blond hair, late thirties. He's British, he wears v necks.

[ Everything about her response is curt professionalism, without any more conversation than necessary. ]

Is that enough to narrow him down?

That'll do just fine.

[ Just as professional and impersonal. ]

[ There's a quiet, awkward pause, and then her voice softens ever so slightly. ]

The help...is appreciated. Thank you.

[ Not like he knows what to do with gratitude anyway. ]

We won't give up until we find him. However long it takes.

Bruce came back. [ And yeah, maybe the comment is more to comfort herself than anything else. ] He came back, surely it can't be long before we find my br- housemate too.

[ Slip up? What slip up? ]

[ Sorry, Anna. Tony's not talking about Bruce. ]

Steve came back too. People come back. He will too.

[ He heard that slip, but he's not touching it. Not right now. ]

[ Granted, she's at least aware enough to notice that he's blatantly avoiding a topic there. It's just that she's really focused on not reacting to anything right now, so it gets filed away for a later topic of discussion instead. ]

When you went on your search, how successful were you and your friends?

We almost got killed.

[ He says it with a sort of deadpan disinterest, like it happens so much it's not a big deal. ]

And we didn't find anybody. But we did learn that our captors were involved. Which is more information than we had. It gave us a place to start forming a plan.

[ And the problem with this is - as self-righteous as it may come across, Anna really doesn't think her fate will end the same way. After all, she's an angel right? What could possibly hurt her?

...Never mind the fact that she's only just gotten her voice back from something that managed to affect both humans and supernatural beings alike. ]

This is good to know. Is there anything in particular that I should be wary of?

Robotic duplicates in the woods. You should probably let me handle that, actually. I'm the resident robot expert. I can deal with them better than anyone else.

[ And they're really dangerous and he'd feel better being the one to risk his otherwise useless life than he would feel about putting her in danger. ]

That's not going to happen.

[ So that's what it takes to get something close to an emotional response from her, apparently. Her answer is sharp, immediate, and absolutely unbudging. ]

It's too risky, you almost died. I'm not risking anyone for this.

It's not a negotiation. I know the layout. I know the threat. I know how to handle it. And I decide what I risk and when I do it. It's fine. I'll be fine.

Just take care of the rest of the place. I can't be everywhere at once.

You expect me to stand back while you almost die again? It's not happening. Both of us or neither, that is not a negotiation.

[ He's not risking her. He's not risking anyone. So he cuts the feed. ]

When he turns up, we're lojacking him. I hear you can get microchip implants.

First we have to find him.

Matter of time. I was my kindergarten's hide and seek champion for four consecutive years, he's not staying hidden from me.

[Actually, he is, and it's really disconcerting, but lying and pretending nothing's wrong is obviously the best way to deal with this.]

Trust me, we'll find him.

If enough people are looking, it shouldn't take long to find him.

[ Maybe she's taking his disappearance a little worse than she would have anticipated, but where Gabriel has his humorous comments and devil-may-care attitude, Anna is taking to going into all out autopilot mode for her "coping strategy". ]

I'll tear this whole town apart if I have to.

[ Maybe autopilot mode strongly resembles extremely contained anger. Just a little. ]

[Oh, he feels that anger. Small animals in the woods on the other side of the town probably feel it. He winces a little, not that it's obvious over the communicator.]

Not sure if that'll help any, if it gets to that point.

[If it does, though, he'll be there to assist with the destruction.]

A lot harder to hide something when you don't have anything to hide them in.

[ She's pretty set on finding him. 'Pretty set' meaning almost single-minded determination, and she's not about to back down and calm down any time soon. It hits a lot closer to home when it's one of hers that's disappeared. ]

What d'you reckon are the chances that if these 'scientist' SOBs took him they'll be hanging round where we can kick their sorry asses into giving him back?

If they've got any sense of self-preservation, they won't be.

So let's hope they don't.

[He won't be getting his hopes up, personally, but if nothing else, beating the crap out of the guy will feel good.]

[ Honestly, she's not much more hopeful about the results they might get. Of course that doesn't really matter all that much. ] Meet me there.

[Sharon has circles under her eyes, but she looks ready for business. Worn, but alert.]

I'll be on the lookout.

[But they both know it's a longshot, don't they.]

[ She might know that, but that doesn't mean she's going to back down any time soon. That doesn't mean she sounds any softer as Sharon gets her response, though, it's still the same cold, emotionless voice that comes back. ]

It's appreciated. Thank you.

[ Sharon doesn't allow herself to hesitate in ending their conversation. Nothing she says to Anna will help right now, and trying to find the words will only make it worse. And there's no way she can apologize for being such a fucking failure over the network. How many people have disappeared now on her watch? How long will it be before people she cares about disappear, too? ]

[She rouses herself and forces herself to get to her feet. Even though she knows it's a fruitless effort, she'll search for the missing. If only because she would still have to face the people left behind, and she can't face them if she hasn't done all she can. ]

I'll keep my eye out. You got a description to go with the name? Might be useful.

Yeah, that would help. Thank you. [ If anything shows just how distracted she is, it's that. ] He's older, looks around thirty five maybe? Five eleven I think, blond, British.

I'll be on the look out. I hope you find him...

[ Huh. That's a voice he doesn't recognize. ] Y'wanna give me a description? [ Not like he has anything better to do. ]

Jesse, hi. [ At least Anna does recognise his voice, that's something right? Not that it's going to make her that much kinder. ]

Blond, British, blue eyes, mid-thirties. A little bit of a jerk. He's hard to miss.

[ Ah yes. Of course he doesn't know her. ] I met you on your first day, but had a little trouble speaking then. Sorry, I'm Anna

[ Oh. Right, right, okay. ] You're the redhead? Yeah. Alright. [ That makes it a little less terrifying. ] Anna. Blond, British, blue eyes, mid-thirties. Got it, I'll look 'round. M'assuming you already checked places he's usually at.

Yeah, that's me. Should have mentioned that first, huh. [ She sounds ever so slightly amused, vaguely, behind the layers of fierce and cold determination, but it doesn't exactly last long. ]

And the places he usually isn't. And the places he'd never be in a million years, honestly.

Maybe. [ But it's whatever, he'll look! ] Alright. M'pretty decent at finding people who don't wanna be found, so I can try. No promises, but I will.
