✘ 002 | Action/Audio/Catch-All | Day 110
[Action, for Ellen:]
[Jo is in the back when the earthquake hits, suddenly and without any warning, having been making an effort to tidy up what serves as the Harvelles' living space. Things begin to rocket off the shelves before she can run for cover, and she has a few narrow misses as she scrambles for the doorway, bracing her hands against either side and cringing as she hears things crash to the ground behind her. She tenses when she hears glass break in the direction of the still, her chest growing tight.]
Mom?! Are you okay?!
[If there's an answer, she can't hear it over the rumbling or the racket caused by things falling apart around them, but all the hard work they've put into the bar seems to have paid off, because the structure is secure enough that it's still standing (as far as she can tell) when the quaking dies down. As soon as things seem stable enough, she pushes off from the door frame and runs in the direction of the still, skidding around some debris on the way.]
Mom?!
[Private Audio to Raphael:]
Raphael? If you can hear this... I might need your help. Mom's been injured. I can't tell how bad it is, there's a lot of blood, but I'm pretty sure the first aid supplies I have aren't gonna cut it. I'm sorry to ask, but -- you've helped us before. Mom trusts you.
[Given a certain value of trust.]
[Audio:]
Is everyone out there okay? If you're in need of first-aid or trapped somewhere, let the network know as soon as you can, someone will come find you.
[She intends to be one of those someones.]
Anyone who isn't hurt and can move around easily, we should all fan out and make sure nobody's stuck or injured so badly they can't get someone's attention.
no subject
[She deflates slightly, shaking her head.]
The bar's a mess, too. Lot of our hard work gone to waste.
no subject
First things first. We'll get the glass out of my arm. Then, we'll work on the bar. The still can wait, since it isn't going to be producing anything.
no subject
[She looks dubious. She's pulled bullets and hell, countless other things out of people before, but their first aid supplies here are limited, and it's tricky to tell how deep the glass goes. At least it's in her arm and not somewhere more vital.]
... come on. Sit down, let's take a closer look.
no subject
Behind the bar, back behind the tubs there's a bottle of moonshine, if it hasn't broken. It's from the first batch and stronger than the last one. We'll use that to disinfect it. We'll get stitches later. The clinic probably has the stuff.
no subject
We'll get you disinfected and stitched up, then I'll go out and look around, make sure there's nobody who's trapped or injured too badly to call for help.
no subject
Damn, that hurts.
no subject
Quit it. Let me.
[She's taking over, mom. She grimaces, pressing her lips together into a tight line as she carefully peels the towel back fully, getting a better look at the glass.]
You're lucky you didn't get hit anywhere vital. Wanna look away while I pull it out?
[Asked as she very gingerly takes hold of the edge of the largest piece.]
no subject
Just get the damned thing out. Feels like it's grinding against my bone.
[Ellen is cranky when she's injured.]
no subject
Alright. Give it a minute, we'll look for smaller pieces.
[Damn it, that's a hell of a lot of blood.]
Doesn't look like there were many, at least.
[She pulls the towel back again, the blood having slowed somewhat, and picks out a couple of smaller shards. There's nothing else that can be seen with the naked eye, but that's always a problem with broken glass.]
no subject
Then, she pours the moonshine over.]
GOD DAMN.
[She doesn't even bother to hold that in, because damn that hurts.]
Warp it up. We'll worry about stitches later. You hear from the boys?
no subject
[She shakes her head as she quickly goes about wrapping Ellen's arm, making sure that pressure stays on.]
First thing I did was come in here. Thought I might hop on the network and see if anyone else is hurt.
no subject
Grab a holler for others. Don't worry about a doc for me. If anyone's trapped, call back.
no subject
[She disappears just long enough to put a call out, returning a few minutes later with that patented Harvelle Resolve Face on.]
No sign of anyone being trapped yet, but I'm gonna head out and look. I got in touch with Raphael -- he says there's a doctor making her rounds. She's gonna stop by and see you, whether you like it or not.
no subject
What the hell are you asking him for anything for? Don't mess with the angels, Jo. Only a matter of time before they dick us over.
no subject
But it was okay for you to call him in to help me when I got here? I'm not even asking him for that much.
no subject
[She does not want to be beholden to anyone. That's just going to end in tears.]
no subject
[Now she's got both hands on her hips, that patented Resolve Face on in full force.]
We're not beholden to him for anything, all he's doing is making sure the doctor makes her way over here. That's it. That's all. I thought you trusted him, anyway? You were all friendly with him before.
no subject
I was polite and respectful. There's a difference and you know it, young lady. I don't want you asking him or any of the others for anything. Just stay out of angel business.
no subject
[She will resolve face all she wants.]
It's not like I went asking him for a miracle or super healing.
no subject
[It's snapped and half-yelled. She really does not want them involved in angel crap.]
And it wouldn't be the first time we dealt without any damned help. There's no need to go running to any of them just because of a scratch.
no subject
[She's yelling right back, just like every other fight they've ever had. It always escalates.]
And no, it's not just a scratch. It might not be fatal, but it's not nothing, and knowing you, you wouldn't bother getting in touch with the doctor in time because you're too damn stubborn to admit that you've ever done anything more than stub your toe!
[Ellen's tough, she's always been, but sometimes Jo thinks there's such thing as too tough. She does it, too. They both worry about the other without paying enough mind to themselves.]
Look, it's not that big a deal! It's over and done with, it's not like I can take it back!
no subject
JoAnna Beth, I'm not stupid enough to let this sit and fester. We're stuck here and I'm not going to leave you here alone. But dammit, you stay away from the Angels. They ain't going to do anything but bring us more damned trouble. We got enough!
no subject
You just-- fine. Just stay here and do whatever you want. I'm going to go out and check out the damage.
[Because staying here and butting heads with Ellen is not her idea of a good time, and walking out the door seems like the best option.]
I was just trying to help.
no subject
[She's not finishing that statement.]
Find the boys and make sure they're okay.
no subject
... yeah. I will.
[That said, she heads for the door. Time to give them both a little time to cool off, and do some good. It's hardly the worst fight they've ever had, but they can't afford to let it escalate right now. Not now, and not here.]
