001//video

[ This is an all-too familiar scene, where Steve can't remember a thing or why he's wearing these clothes. He supposes his first thoughts really shouldn't be about why people keep thinking it'll be more appropriate to the situation if they undress him.

The voice starts, and he's a little disappointed. Guess they've stopped trying to impress him.

He examines his watch, because it stands out like a sore thumb against his soldier's uniform. He turns on the video feed unknowingly, and it shows him turning away to look up at the ceiling where the voices seem to be coming from.

What year is it?

Twenty-twelve.

[ Tony's face is carefully neutral. ]

Where have you been, Rogers?

Captain Rogers? [He just stares for a minute, relief clear on his face.]

I am so glad you're alive.

[ Call her soft, but Anna can't help but feel sympathetic. She's in the same boat after all. That's why she pays any attention at all when the device on her wrist emits a voice, and after a few moments of fiddling with it (she's still not that used to them) a slightly smiling face flickers up on his screen. ]

Hello. I believe it's 2012, as far as I'm aware. I assume you've woken up under the same circumstances as all of us, no knowledge of how you arrived?

[ There's a brief pause, and then she adds. ]

I'm Anna, by the way.

A thornier question than you likely realise, Captain Rogers.

The exact year seems to be in some question. As far as my own reckoning goes, it was 3740. I'm not sure what year it may be here and now, however.

[Her English is slightly accented—she sounds like her mother tongue might be from somewhere in Eastern Europe.]

By my reckoning, before coming here, it was 1932, but the majority of people to whom I've spoken to say the year was something like eighty years ahead of that or so... Erm, anyway, I'm Jones. Did you only just find yourself here? You look a tad familiar, but I could be mis-remembering.

Are you accustomed to not knowing what year it is, then? [ her voice is youthful-sounding, pretty, and, though the accent is mostly American, subtly tinged with something else — probably Russian ]

Like a dear friend of mine, it was 1932 by every calendar I consulted before I was unceremoniously kidnapped here, but for most people it seems to be rather further in the future than that.

The true year here is, as far as I can tell, anyone's guess.

[ His brow arches a bit. ]

Did SHIELD not debrief you enough after defrostin' you, Cap? [ He was sure Phil set up a powerpoint presentation for it. ]
