[ It's dark, but not almost dark enough for Donna's liking. She would gladly build a pillow fort and curl up in a ball and die in it if she could. In fact, it definitely sounds like a plan. But first, she ignores the pounding in her skull and drags herself to sit up from her pathetic ball of pain. ]

So, does anyone have any spare pain killers kicking around? Or chocolate? Preferably pain killers though... Strong ones if possible...

Donna, are you alright?

Chocolate? Hm. Funny you should ask, I coulda sworn I saw some around here earlier.

[For example, in his hand. And mouth. He's eating a bar right now.]

[ Oh great! It's her favourite person in the universe. Not. ]

Anyone ever tell you that you're a jerk?

Cas... Yeah. I will be. [ The pathetic ball of painful doom suggests otherwise. ]

[His knack for making people despise him, though, only goes one way - he's got nothing against most people, he just likes annoying them, so if they're actually in pain... he leans to the side, disappearing momentarily from the screen, then pops back into view with a bar that's actually wrapped in his other hand.]

Still want some? Or d'you think you might catch meanie germs off me?

It is laced with drugs that will make my hair fall out? [ Donna! Don't give the guy ideas! ]

Would you like it to be? I mean, I can understand wanting a change from ginger, but there's this nifty little thing called hair dye that might be a less drastic step than going bald.

Oh, ginger jokes. I happen to like my hair, thank you very much. Now... going to sit and mock or going to bring cocoa products?

I can do both, I'm a good multitasker.

[Still, sitting here and mocking doesn't help with the distribution of candy, so he switches off the video and reappears in the room with her, though he has the manners (or rather, the desire not to be hit) not to pop up within her personal space.]

[ A wise move. Donna is good at hitting at the best of times, but when she's in pain? Even more so. ]

Anyone ever teach you how to knock?

Nope. I was a tragically deprived youth. Or perhaps I mean depraved. Either works, I suppose.

[He manages not to stumble over anything - perks of being an angel - in the dark as he takes a leap of faith and gets within hitting range to hand her the chocolate.]

[ Donna sits up, but don't expect her to move from her blanket pile. ]

What's the catch?

What's wrong? Perhaps I can help.

[ He appears just outside her house. ]

Migraines. I'll be fine. I always am...

[ He walks inside, heading for where he thinks he hears her voice and knocking gently on her doorframe. ]

Donna?

[ Cas really needs to teach Gabe that knocking thing...

Donna sits up and forces a smile. ] Hey Cas.

Mortals, huh? Always with the scepticism.

[He drops the chocolate down next to her and gets out of slapping range.]

Only catch is it'll go straight to your hips, but that's not my doing.

[ Hey! Can't blame a girl for being suspicious...

She picks up the chocolate and eyes it cautiously for a long moment. ]

... Thank you.

[Can't blame anyone for being suspicious when Gabriel's around, let alone handing out candy. Still, for once his intentions here are benign.]

Anytime, honey; I'm here to help.

So, what? Got a weakness for damsels in distress or sommat?

Yeesh, can't a guy do a good deed around here without being given the third degree about it?

When the guy in question is you? Then... nope.

I'll keep that in mind next time I offer to help someone out.

[ Cas only remembers the knocking thing half the time.

He comes in and sits on the edge of her bed, lifting a hand towards her temple.] Let me see.

And how often does that happen? Should we be recording this for prosperity?

Anyone ever teach you that you look with your eyes and not your hands? [ Even so, she leans towards him; that's showing her trust in him right there since she's not too fond of people prodding and poking around at her head. ]

Is that what the kids are calling it these days? You can record me for whatever purposes you like, sweetheart, but I'm sure you'll have other opportunities.

Shut up, dumbo.

There's nothing quite like gratitude.

[Cue fake weary sigh, but apparently he's still in the mood to play nice, because he just disappears rather than continuing to bother her.]

[ He rests two fingers on her temple. He's not planning to go into her head at all. He just wants to help with the pain.

He focuses as he would to push away the pain of any migraine. ]

[ She's tried it all - pain killers, Indian head massages, eye masks. She'd even changed her diet to cut out all the usual trigger foods - including chocolate. Of course, that didn't last long once she realised it made no difference.

Problem with her headaches is, they're not regular migraines, they're being caused by whatever is going on inside her head thanks to the locked away metacrisis part. ]

[ Castiel doesn't know what the cause is. He doesn't have a reason to look in her head, at least not yet, so he only focuses on relieving her pain. It should work, as far as he knows, but that doesn't mean it will, of course. ]

Better?

[ She offers a sad smile. ] Not much, but I appreciate the attempt.

[ He frowns. That should have worked. ]

Donna... [ His voice is soft, despite the gravely tone. ] Does this happen often?

Often enough. More frequently if I'm honest. It's just migraines, I'll be fine.

It's something I should be able to help with, Donna.

[ He wonders which of them is the problem with that. Are his powers slipping? ]

[ Has he been taking his angel vitamins to make him big and strong? Angel Vitamins™ - now with added Grace - available at all good retailers.

The problem most likely lies with Donna though. ]

Give over. Don't beat yourself up about it. What were you going to do? Magic up a cure from thin air?

[ He smiles a little. ]

Yes, that's exactly what I was trying to do.

[ He thinks back on his discussion with Gabriel about honesty. ]

It's appreciated. They say it's the thought that counts, after all.

I think I may have... mislead you about my nature. I really should be able to help your pain.

[ He studies her for a moment. ]

I'm an angel.

I baffle doctors and now apparently I baffle angels too.

[ Yep, hiding behind her humour. It's a defence mechanism, so sue her... ]

Have you spoken to the doctors here?

[ Strange, but perhaps the doctors she had seen at home weren't as good? ]

Well, I've spoken to a doctor. But not about my head. Well, maybe in passing, but not in any kind of medically examinationy kind of way. The headaches weren't as bad then.

[ Helpful, Donna. ] I'm sure I'll be fine.

Do you think sleep would help?

[ He can do that, at least. He can help her rest. ]

Sleep's about the only thing that seems to do any good.

[ But then there's the dreams. She'll just keep quiet about those. She doesn't want to be a burden! ]

Lie back. I can put you to sleep.

[ It's the best he can offer. ]

I bet you say that to all the girls...

[ She offers a nervous smile and shifts to lay down. ] I will wake up again though, won't I?

Yes. When you're rested in a few hours you will wake up naturally.

Good night, Donna. [ And he touches two fingers to her temple. ]

[ And with that she is asleep. This is why everyone needs an angel for a friend. It'd save the NHS millions each year in sleep related drugs and treatment! ]
