I've had a thought, Kore--because I do that, occasionally, when I'm not too busy drinking. We've had a lot of new arrivals turn up injured lately, and also a number of re-arrivals with nasty wounds. What about a few of us volunteering as a quick-response group for these occasions? A welcoming committee for the bruised and bleeding, as it were.

I don't know whether the infirmary is equipped for overnight stays, so someone will have to inform me. I'm afraid to go look. If not, maybe some sort of temporary shelter would be appropriate, as well.

...

...And on a completely unrelated note, could the person who's been painting murals of birds around town pretty please come forward? I want to shake your hand.

I tend to agree with that, but if I keep it up I'm likely to run the supply low single-handedly, which is hardly fair.

That sounds like a very good idea. I dare say there will be a few people who don't want to stand up and be counted, but I expect you'll get most of us. There was a fellow here before doing something similar, but he's vanished. I don't know if the document he had is still around...

[Fortescue isn't sure what to think of that, other than be vaguely impressed by the fortitude of this guy's liver. She raises a playful eyebrow.]

When I arrived someone told me something about a... Steve, I think his name was? That the holder of the roster disappeared is somewhat awkward. If there are two of us to maintain it, it should be better cared for.

[She makes a slight face at news of his disappearance. That people come and go so frequently makes even her nervous.]

Anyway, those who are nervous about their identities just need to put down any name they can be called in case things get hairy. Though I draw the line at, I don't know, Captain Dashing or something.

Steve, yes. I only met him the once, but he was good at portraiture. Having two of you to keep up is a good idea, though. And I hope neither of you disappears. I'm not sure who I'd drink with.

So I can't be Captain Dashing? Can I be I.P. Freely?

[Fortescue bites back laughter, and then pretends to pout.]

Balthazar, you'd make a girl repeat that over the comm system? "Has anyone seen I.P. Freely?" For shame. [Smirking,] If you were a girl, I'd put you down for Anita Drink.

Whyever not? It would add much-needed levity to a stressful situation. Anyway, I've already got someone calling me Snowball.

[There's a split second's pause as he absorbs the pun, and then he breaks into a ridiculous grin.] That's magnificent. If I ever meet an Anita Drink I'm going to propose on the spot.

I'm picturing a tired detective, for some reason.

[Darby would have killed her for that one, but - he's not here! And she does chuckle, this time.]

Snowball. Are you amassing a nickname collection? I suppose we could go for Captain Dashing...

With a fedora and everything? I like it.

I like nicknames, but I've only got a few. Does that constitute a collection? But I was never a captain. Lieutenant Dashing, perhaps.

A few is more than most people have.

Lieutenants don't get much love, do they? Perhaps that's all the better.

But I do like to collect things. Perhaps I'll advertise for more.

More nicknames, I mean. Not more love. Although I suppose I'd take that, too... [Grin.]

I suppose not. But there's not much else worth having at home, either, so I'll run with it.
