I'm back, just in case anyone was wondering; it's possible you weren't, of course, since I have no idea how long I was gone.

But someone has clearly been watering my garden, so thank you for that! And the radishes are ready.

[Guess who decided not to bother answering via her comm? Guess who is bolting out of her house and hunting down one returned angel? Guess who finds said angel and tackles them to the ground and just hugs the shit out of them? No, come on, Balthazar. Guess. It might be the person currently sprawled out on top of you refusing to let go. Maybe.]

[ Local mother hen is pleased to see you, Balthazar! She was worried. ]

How much would it swell your ego if you knew I was worried about you?

[It takes a fair bit of force to bowl an angel over. He's caught off-guard, though, and only flails slightly as he collapses onto his back, grunting with surprise.] Oof! Riley! What the--! [The protest dissolves into a laugh.]

Let me guess, love. You're excited about the radishes? [He can't recall ever getting a more exuberant greeting.]

[After a moment, the feed clicks on. Balthazar looks a little the worse for wear, honestly, but it's more in the way he's carrying himself than any physical marks or dishevelment. He smiles to see Donna, anyway.]

No more than it can take, I promise you. Everything all right for the moment?

Shove the radishes up your butt. I missed you. I thought you were gone.

['That you'd left me' was something she didn't say, but it was there in how fiercely she was hugging him. It was there in the slight sheen of tears in her eyes as she smiled down at him.]

Are you okay?

I suppose it depends on your definition of all right. Some people have gone missing...

Did the pervy mad scientists get their creepy hands on you?

If I'd known the radishes were still alive I'd have taken the opportunity to kill 'em off.

You sound awfully pleased about your return.

[A beat.] Are they French radishes?

Are you all right? ...aside from being wrenched away, of course.

[There's only so much "all right" you can be in the Cape.]

Only a couple of days.

[ This time. ]

I was sort of gone. Temporarily. I think. [He doesn't remember much, but his wings ache, and he has a vague idea he was somewhere cold and sterile. That would seem to indicate a visit to whatever their captors use for a laboratory.

He probably shouldn't go into that with Riley at the moment. He hugs back firmly once he sees the misty eyes. It's touching to know he was missed so much.] But I'm back, and I'm fine. Are you?

That's par for the course, isn't it? [He frowns, though. Missing people are worrisome no matter how often it happens.]

I assume so. I don't have very clear memories, but I feel a bit sore. Still, no visible damage. I'm sure I'm all right.

[Ah, Gabriel. Don't ever change.] I'd make you replace them. I've put a lot of hours into those obnoxious little roots.

You don't have to eat any, promise.

Of course I'm fine, you big dummy. I'm not the one popping off into nothing. Are you sure you're okay? Really?

[Sorry, Balthazar, but you had a growth for the rest of the day and it was in the shape of a Riley. She didn't plan on letting him out of her sight for the rest of it, already thinking about sleeping at the foot of his bed while shifted.]

Clicking the ruby slippers didn't work for me. On the whole, I'd rather be here than running mazes for our captors. I don't even like cheese.

Er. What's the different between French radishes and any other kind? They're red and pink and white inside.

I'm physically intact and only a bit out of sorts otherwise. But thank you for asking.

Did I miss anything important?

[Balthazar is just a bit uncertain what to say to Raphael, between the scrambled memories of multiple dreams. He forces a weak, guilty smile.]

That's for the best, then. Has anyone else gone AWOL?

Your eyes are leaking a bit. [He kisses her forehead.] And you're threatening to do obscene things to me with vegetables. It's a bit uncharacteristic, is all.

[He smiles fondly to show he's just teasing her.] I'm a little sore, but I'm sure it'll fade before too long.

They are not.

[And she'll brush them against his shoulder to wipe away any signs they might have been.]

You only wish I'd do obscene things with vegetables. You'd probably like it. Wierdo.

[But it's said with the same affection as she continues to lie curled up on him.]

My mistake, then. [He squeezes her closer, torn between affection and amusement.]

No, I only do obscene things with fruit. Bananas are good for it. Sometimes pineapple. Kumquats. Just saying kumquat sounds obscene, actually...

[He wouldn't be surprised if she smacked him right about now.]

Balthazar!

[Yeah, she's going to swat at his chest, sitting up on him as she looks down at the cheeky little celestial being.]

You're terrible. Why do I even like you? God.

[She'd miss you, charming-drinking-buddy-who-is-also-an-angel.]

Quite a few people have vanished in a short amount of time. But other than that, no. [Though she does get to teach a pretty lady how to fish, tomorrow.] It's been quiet. Much like your radishes.

Oh? What size are they? I'll take them off your hands. [She considers making a mouse joke and there's an odd moment of silence; it's almost obvious that she's trying hard to hold out on the stupidity.]

What shape are they? The difference is subtle. They taste more mild and are usually served for breakfast.

You got all your fingers and toes? No signs of a lobotomy? [ Donna really needs to stop greeting people when they get back from possibly traumatic experiences. ]

Any missing marbles?

[ He was. He was wondering. Do you have any idea how strange it is, being in a house alone with Gabriel for even just a couple of days? ]

You weren't gone long.

Or, uh. Maybe you were. I mean, you were gone when I came back, so...

Uh, welcome back, I guess?
