Update on the dead body found in the fountain the other day.

It belongs to Maria Smith. You might remember her as the ever-so-friendly science teacher who turned out to be secretly working for the scientists keeping us here. Secret, anyway, until she broke cover on the network and gave us all kinds of information?

[ Bitter? Maybe. Maybe a little. Is he rethinking how he feels about some people here? Not really, not yet, but now the possibility exists, and he's... unsure how to take it. Bruce adjusts his glasses and starts reading from the report in his hand. ]

She'd been dead for several days by the time her body was left for us to find. She was severely beaten and died of blunt force trauma to the head. The scene of her murder has yet to be found, but I haven't exactly been looking. Anyone think they found it?

Also, uh, anyone think they know who did it? I have my suspicions in the form of her former employers and our current gatekeepers, but I'm occasionally too much of a conspiracy theorist.

Any guesses as cause?

That's the one.

It definitely wasn't anything to do with water. Have to say, I'm surprised by the violence of it. My guess, they would've done something quick and sciencey, you know? They seem to be big with the experimental toxins. But they fought with her and beat her.

'Quick' and 'sciencey'? Hmmm... I don't mean to sound a bit morbid, but do you have the body? I'm curious to have a look.

No, I mean -- I would've thought her death would be quick and sciencey. Instead, they just bashed her head in.

[ Which is crasser than he has been saying it, but that's closest to the truth anyway. ]

You can come by and have a look if you want. She was beaten pretty severely before the final blow.

The clinic. I found a... [ He winces slightly. ] I found a freezer big enough to hold her in a small garage, but I haven't moved her there yet.

Ah.. well, if you need help, I'm offering myself. [Not that he wants to, he'd rather burn the body, but he was curious to have a look.]

I'm the Doctor! Been taking a seat back, observing, if you will. I haven't come up with any conclusions, but I am coming up with some plans.

Ah, I believe I've heard of you! Lovely...

Right, well my plan so far is track the wind patterns and stars, as the horizons don't exactly match up to anything I know. And trust me, I would know.

[ He's been around enough geniuses -- okay, mostly just himself and Tony -- to accept that without much questioning. Either the guy's right, or he's incredibly wrong, and Bruce trusts his own knowledge enough to be able to tell the difference as he hears him out. ]

I've been able to match some of the stars up to what you might see over Maine in the US, but as far as I can tell, Maine forests aren't endlessly filled with mechanical bears, and also saber-tooth cats are still extinct.

[ Unless an old man on an island decided to play God with some prehistoric animals and with some people? ]

Ah, you see, that's exactly what I've noticed, some constellations do match something to be found on Earth! However, they're interspersed with ones you shouldn't be able to find. The horizons don't match, if this is, in fact, Earth.

Interesting stuff. I'd be happy to talk about it with you. I've done some poking around with that when we had this box... thing, but then I've been kind of busy since then.
