Update on the dead body found in the fountain the other day.

It belongs to Maria Smith. You might remember her as the ever-so-friendly science teacher who turned out to be secretly working for the scientists keeping us here. Secret, anyway, until she broke cover on the network and gave us all kinds of information?

[ Bitter? Maybe. Maybe a little. Is he rethinking how he feels about some people here? Not really, not yet, but now the possibility exists, and he's... unsure how to take it. Bruce adjusts his glasses and starts reading from the report in his hand. ]

She'd been dead for several days by the time her body was left for us to find. She was severely beaten and died of blunt force trauma to the head. The scene of her murder has yet to be found, but I haven't exactly been looking. Anyone think they found it?

Also, uh, anyone think they know who did it? I have my suspicions in the form of her former employers and our current gatekeepers, but I'm occasionally too much of a conspiracy theorist.

Oh, I remember her. She was most helpful in that "this is the opposite of helpful" way.

[Her tone just then was sarcastic annoyance. But then it softens and this is that rare compassionate side that Charlie likes to pretend she doesn't have.] She's really dead, though? Holy shit.

[Also, pay no attention to the burns and bruises. They're bandaged. She's healing. She's good. Really.]

Someone thought she was a little too helpful. But yes, she's dead.

You look vaguely better than dead in that you're breathing. Are you okay? What happened?

I'm aiming for zombie-like. That sounds close enough. One of the boxes from the other day didn't like me all that much. It blew up.

It's close until you start biting people and then we need to cut your head off. [ Ha ha... ]

Ah yes, our box with a bite. Do you want someone to look over that? Someone who is specifically me?

I'm not a biter, remember? I usually go for the burn.

[Too soon? She can never tell.] I forgive you, by the way. For that. Even though it was the shit in the air.

Would you mind? I mean I had someone help, but an extra look-over wouldn't go amiss.

Not to sound kinda obvious on the pointing fingers here, but it seems like the other people in charge had to do with it, doesn't it? She sounded like she was in trouble, her network announcement.

Yeah, I'm pretty sure. [ He could suggest that they could have a killer among them though, and Kobra thought he did kill someone, so it's worth it to ask just in case, but maybe he's dropped enough truth on Stiles already... ]

I just thought, you know. The benefit of the doubt, for like half a second. Time's up on that though, I think. What about you?

But only pretty sure. [ Because even Stiles doesn't sound a hundred percent fixed on the matter - his instincts aren't his father's, but he's sure as hell learned over the last year to question what it is he has in front of him. ]

Are you ready to proclaim the sketch scientists her killers? I think I am, but I'm not sure how the trial situation works here.

You know, it's not paranoia if they really are out to get you.

That'd be great on a flier. Could you post that around town? Maybe paper the roof of the gazebo with it. It'd really do something for town morale.

I think so. We could set up a visitor's guide in the town square. I'm thinking pamphlets about how you're not going to see Auntie Em anytime soon, and you should pay a lot of attention to the men behind the cameras.

Yeah, me too. The manner of her death could be... It's more violent than I would've thought, you know? How many of us have they taken with no signs of struggle? And the drugs they've released.

They were pretty mad, I guess.

[ He hums his agreement and nods. He knows a thing or two too. ]

I think they wanted to be sure we were aware it's a sore point for them, too.

Sure. You might be able to go back on your watch thing and see where this woman made an announcement to all of us. She said she'd been working for our kidnappers all along, and she said that the way out is through the sea.

[ Also that none of them have a shot here, Bruce thinks he remembers that one. ]

She also wasn't too optimistic about her future. Looks like she was right with that one.

Was she a friend?

A friend? No, no. She... was pretty nice. A fellow science teacher. We talked here and there, but nothing...

She came around in the end. It might be a stretch to say she did it for us, because she was trying to escape too, but she tried to help.

[The Doctor's brows are furrowed as he has his 'brainy-specs' in place.] The woman from earlier...? OHHHH! The one asking us to trust her!? Said to escape out the oceanside, if I remember correctly?

Any guesses as cause?

That's the one.

It definitely wasn't anything to do with water. Have to say, I'm surprised by the violence of it. My guess, they would've done something quick and sciencey, you know? They seem to be big with the experimental toxins. But they fought with her and beat her.

'Quick' and 'sciencey'? Hmmm... I don't mean to sound a bit morbid, but do you have the body? I'm curious to have a look.

No, I mean -- I would've thought her death would be quick and sciencey. Instead, they just bashed her head in.

[ Which is crasser than he has been saying it, but that's closest to the truth anyway. ]

You can come by and have a look if you want. She was beaten pretty severely before the final blow.
