video/action ❆ day 129
[Poking around with Anita, and on her own, has yielded the discovery of a lab with decent skylights. As a result, it's less foreboding than the other labs. But only just. What helps further is a series of neat little raised beds — Meja found them in poor condition, much like the rest of the facility, but she's dedicated her morning to rejuvenating the soil and cleaning things off. There are now little carved runes on the side of the beds that should negate them needing to be watered — most of the time, at least.
And now that they look a little less like brown death, she's investigating in the cupboards. No matter how much that little voice says that maybe she shouldn't. And it isn't without a point: she finds a spider in one of the cupboards that's bigger than her own hand. For now, she'll leave it alone, but if it's poisonous she's not sure what to do with it. Someone else could get hurt.
What she's finding is definitely interesting. Unmarked containers of seeds, for another. The equipment she finds is completely foreign to her, for the most part. There are basic things she can guess about, but the technology is... well, it's beyond her. After gathering a small amount on an empty table that she cleaned earlier, she switches on her phone's video function.
Roland the white rat can be seen grooming himself on top of a raised bed. It seems that he's going to stick with Meja, at least for now, since she's feeding him regularly. He's steering clear of the spider; it looks like they know one another.]
I don't suppose anyone's feeling adventurous? Or knows what these devices are for? It seems some of our scientists were into plants... in their own way.
[For anyone wandering in the area, the door's open. When she isn't pondering the technology or rooting around in a cupboard, she's contemplating her notebook for ways to improve potential plant growth — sitting on the floor with her long legs splayed to the side. (Yet again. Maybe this garden will last longer.) ]

video;
Indoor gardening, for the most part. But... odd. Some of it I'm familiar with, and some of it I'm not.
[Only some of the beds have dirt.]
What can I say — I sort of prefer plants in actual ground.
video;
[He makes a bit of a face, because clearly it's not a good or even okay sort of odd. But, pessimism aside, he nods.]
Plants in the ground makes far more sense. I don't know what would be beneficial about growing them inside like that. ...Though I suppose it could be beneficial for us now, with no more gardens...
video;
[What can she say? Meja's kind of used to odd things happening to her. It comes with being a Valkyrie, for the most part. But she doesn't like being trapped.]
If these seeds have fruits or vegetables, perhaps we can supplement the strange cafeteria for those who require food.
[That would be nice, anyway. She quirks a wry smile.]
I'm Meja, by the way.
video;
Yes, I was thinking the same thing. I'm sure those who require it would be appreciative, if that's the case.
[Not that he's heard much at all about the strange cafeteria food yet. Smiling a little himself, he offers a slight nod at her introduction.]
It's nice to meet you, Meja. I'm Samandriel.
video;
[One of the items of 'food' had made a yelling noise the last time she'd been in there. Not a pretty sight.]
I just hope that one of these seeds produces something good. It stands to reason that the scientists collected useful seeds, I suppose. But as for what sort of use... [A shrug, and then she jokes,] If they aren't man-eating plants, I'll be happy.
video;
That would certainly be an unfortunate result. Although not necessarily something to rule out as a possibility, I expect. [Maybe that's taking the joke too seriously, though.] I imagine that you are correct, of course - they are likely to be useful, and I'm not sure how useful a man-eating plant would actually be...
[...That's still taking it too seriously.]
Perhaps we'll get lucky.
video;
[Meja shrugs easily, grinning. She'd much rather find vegetable seeds. They already have places to put the garbage.]
There's no harm in planting a few and seeing what happens. Hopefully.
video;
[That's a bleak thought though, and he'd much rather focus on the latter half of her response.]
If something bad happens, I'm sure we could deal with it. I don't believe a plant would be difficult for most of us to deal with. But I agree, planting them should be a good idea, especially if they prove useful. Though it would be much easier if someone here recognized the seeds and could tell us what they are...
[But that would be too easy for Kore, wouldn't it?]
video;
If we did come across a plant hard for us to deal with, that would be a true accomplishment for the plant. [She chuckles.] There are some plants on Alfheimr I'd rather not tangle with, but nothing comes to mind as truly terrible from my own Realms.
video;
[In a slight amount of his own amusement, a small smile quirks his lips.]
It's much the same where I'm from, there are no plants that would be at all difficult to handle. Knowing this place, however... I don't believe I'd put it past them to have found some sort of plant capable of causing us some problem or another. [A pause.] Although I do still think that planting them and taking that chance would be best.
video;
[Meja nods. And it would give many of them something to do besides exploration, which can get rather frustrating at times.]
If we find anything problematic, we can dispose of it. [She chuckles.] Do you like plants?
video;
I've never really thought about it. They are quite useful, and can be pleasant to look at...
[Head tilting slightly, he finds himself thinking back on the time weeks ago when Raphael had taught him and Balthazar about cattails and smiles a little.]
I suppose I do like them, yes. I was a member of the Farming Club before the move, and it was very interesting. ...Although I admit, I didn't have much idea of what I was supposed to be doing. [A sheepish smile.] Gardening and growing plants is fairly new to me.
video;
video;
I may take you up on that, actually. [He's perked up a bit at her suggestion; even if he's not fascinated by plants or perhaps as interested in tending to them as Balthazar is, it's intriguing enough that he would like to learn more.] If you honestly don't mind, of course. It would be nice to have something to do around here.
video;
I don't mind at all. We seem to have a shortage of activities, at present.
video;
[Okay, he's smiling. He can't really stop right now, he's eager to have a learning opportunity and something to do other than sit around or exploring the labs. A distraction from his thoughts. That sounds really nice.]
Is there a particular time of day that would work best for you? I don't want to inconvenience you by showing up at a bad time.
video;
[Well, mostly. But the possible company would only be Samandriel's brothers.]
video;
[And already he's figuring he'll probably check in sometime soon, if that's the case.]
Thank you, Meja.
