[She isn't showing her face over the network, but still, Fortescue's voice sounds almost as bad as her numerous injuries. It wobbles every so often, from the abuse it's taken, and she can't even drum up the emotion to be angry about her lack of control over it. It is what is is.]
Hello, Science Center. Miss me? [Fortescue holds the phone away from her face, for a moment, to cough. She might sound dry, but she really is grateful to be back. Very grateful.] Had this place let me remember, I would have been able to return the favor.
...I don't want to inconvenience anyone, but I'm not... especially mobile, and the canteen is quite a distance from my room. If anyone feels like being generous, I wouldn't mind a snack. [Or maybe more than a snack, but she doesn't feel worthy enough, anymore, to ask for more than that. What is she, aside from a person who failed in her most basic duties as a sister?
She almost asks for alcohol, too, just for the hell of it, but she doesn't. She cuts the feed after a quick,]
Thank you.

Thank you.

Also, you sound like crap.
[Hey, she tells lit like it is.]
What kind of snack do you want? The malt liquor kind?

Audio
Where are you? I'll bring it with.
Audio
There's an old box in the middle of the hallway. Not sure why, but it does make a great marker.
And thank you. I really do appreciate it.
[Booze has pretty much always been welcome, but even more so now.]

[As if there was some way of not being lost, around here, but... she hopes Darcy knows what she means.]
Action
Room Service.
Action
Come in, come in. I'm afraid I don't have tips...
Action
[Darcy was startled by Fortescue's appearance. This was the first time they were meeting face to face, but she looked worse for wear from the last time she'd seen her on a video feed.
She stepped into the room and plopped down on the nearest surface, which happened to be the bed.]
So what happened to you? [She began unpacking her bag.] Or is this one of those stories that requires a shot first?
Action
[It requires a shot to tell. At least one shot. Maybe more. Fortescue will sit down and wait for said shot to make its appearance.]
Though it's not a great story, I suppose.

[Drinking ware was scarce in the kitchen, so she'd just grabbed what was handy. She pours two fingers into a mug and passes it over to Fortescue, followed by a messily wrapped P&B sandwich.]
I know, gross combo, but trust me, you'll thank me later. [She begins pouring her own drink.]
Okay, so spill.

I wouldn't dare complain, love.
[That would just be rude, after all. Fortescue chews while she tries to think of how to explain.]
Well. I don't remember what I explained when we last talked. But erm, you mentioned government agent work, as I recall? And yes. You were right. That was what I did. Only I haven't done anything aside from the war effort in quite a while. Mostly missions to track very... specific individuals.

[Darcy had just been joking when she'd made the comment in passing. Though Fortescue definitely had the air of mystery about her. And that whole Bond girl look.]
Track or assassinate? [Darcy didn't actually wink wink or nudge nudge, but there was definitely a jokey tone. Probably totally inappropriate, considering Fortescue's current state, but Darcy was trying her best to act natural. At least up until the moment she considered that might actually be a real possibility.]

[Best decision of her life, ultimately. But the information she'd acquired to make that decision... well. Ignorance is bliss, as they say. Fortescue hesitates to answer that last question, because she's aware that it might change Darcy's opinion of her. So she downs the rest of her mug in one go.
Better to have some fortification.]
Both.
no subject
[Or it should be, except Fortescue doesn't actually look that happy about it. And maybe that has something to do with the hesitation before she answers the question that was supposed to be just a joke.
Darcy almost chokes on the sip of whiskey she's just taken and the color drains from her face.]
Really? [She swallows.] But just bad guys, right? Terrorists? Mobsters? People trying to kill you?
no subject
Dictators. Nazis. War criminals. [From the previous war. Because there was some law, apparently, about constant war. Fortescue hadn't really questioned her orders, but most of the people she's been sent to kill... well, they hadn't been stellar. But especially the Nazis.] That sort of thing. I don't go around shooting any places up, love. Don't worry.
no subject
[She nods and takes a bigger swig out of her mug. Almost empty, already? She picks up the bottle and pours herself a little more. She tilts it in Fortescue's direction.]
So, uh, is that what happened to you? Are they here in the science building?
no subject
[She'd been around for what ended it, but that's something she doesn't really feel like talking about. Not yet, anyway.]
But don't worry, there aren't any in the Science Center. That I know of.
