[Surprise, surprise, Meja's in the plant lab. It's either there or in the library that she can be seen, for the most part. She only retreats to her room late at night because, otherwise, she starts feeling whoozy. It's irritating, being herded by a building, but there isn't much she can do about it.

She holds up a vegetable to her phone. It looks an awful lot like a green-blue squash. Meja herself looks a bit on the tired side.]

If anyone's noticed these in the cafeteria lately, they're completely safe to eat. I put them there myself. One of our jars of seeds turned out to be useful. If you don't see any and you'd like some fresh food, there's usually one or two here in the lab, as well.

How are we all holding up? Senses back to normal?

Yeah, but does it taste like bacon?

[ The only question that matters when it comes to vegetables. ]

[Meja laughs quietly.]

Sadly, it seems our scientists hadn't created a vegetable that tastes like bacon. We've got a few unknown seed canisters left, though, so you never know.

Well, you better get on that because that would be a vegetable worth celebrating.

[ Not that he's knocking her vegetable growing. He knows that's important if the food stops replenishing. ]

Yeah, I'm holding up alright. How about you?

[ Lucky Meja. Attracting the attention of both Winchester brothers. Actually, no. That's probably terrible luck. Run. Run while you can. Before something terrible happens. Stay away from ceilings! ]

You grew those? That's amazing!

[ That's not sarcasm. He really is in awe. Killing things is easy. Growing them? Not so much. ]

Oh... all right, I suppose. It's been a bit quiet, again, as of late. That's likely not a good sign.

[It hasn't been, in the past.]

[Meja will chance it. She knows two people back home who have rubbish luck with people, too, and hasn't kicked the bucket yet.]

The hydroponics lab was already set up. I simply set up some magic to keep the plants hydrated if everyone gets lost for a while. You never know, around here. I was doing the same thing in town, when we were there.

That's pretty awesome. Still not used to seeing magic being used for good. I think I kinda like it.

And who can say now to fresh food?

Yeah. Pretty soon those vegetables are gonna sprout teeth and try to come after you. Are you sure they're not incubation pods for some alien life form?

[ He's mostly teasing, but it's kind of sad that that could be true. ]

Please don't give the plants any ideas.

[It's quite sad, yes, that this is both a silly and... potentially serious conversation. What even is this place?]

Especially after that incident with the mistletoe that wanted to be in everyone's personal space.

[It has its own corner of the lab, now, and a glass container to grow in. Where it can't try to grab everyone and make them... overly friendly.]

Quite a few people, as it happens. You'd think vegetables had done some crime.

[Granted, only certain people really love them, but really. There aren't any five-year-olds around here. ...that she knows of.]

Magic is neutral, in my world. Energy given off from the entity that holds our Realms together, Yggdrasil. But I've come to understand that magic has different origins, in other worlds.

People underestimate the awesomeness of vegetables.

[ Guess who really, really loves vegetables? Unlike his brother who loves junk food. ]

I'd love to hear more about your world some time.

[Meja smiles.]

You're welcome to come visit the plants and I any time. I'm usually here, and I don't mind telling a few stories. It's a bit of a tradition, back home. Though we don't have the same feasts here in the Center.

I'd like that. I'll try not to kill any of your plants...

...are you particularly good at it?

[She chuckles.]

Don't worry, my runes keep the plants watered. You'd have to rip one of them out for it to die.

Oh, well, that sounds like a party. Are you sure you ought to be messing around with that stuff?

[ Probably it results in good stuff like bacon-less vegetables, but he also doesn't trust much this place coughs up. ]

[ Why do all the girls here pick on him? He rubs the back of his neck nervously. ]

Never really had the chance to care for that many plants if I'm honest.

There's good [she twirls the squash] in with the questionable. So, yes, I'm very certain. If food ever stops showing up in the kitchen, we're going to need all the help we can get, seeing as we can't reliably get outside. And from what I've heard, there isn't much out there.

[Must be the puppy dog eyes. In any case, Meja only teases people she likes. Sam is safe.]

When I was... human, [or even just younger] no plants really grew where I lived, except in the summer. On Midgard — Earth. But I had a very dull stint on Alfheimr, and the elves there taught me how to care for plants. Most plants, at least. Some of these are very strange. If you come in, avoid the plant we've put a glass case over.

I'd be happy to give you pointers, if caring for plants is something you'd like to learn.

[ He could just listen to her talk forever. Is that bad? She fascinates him and brings out his not-so-inner research nerd. ]

Are you a goddess? [ And that's not a flirtation. ]

Also, what's so special about the plant under the glass case? It poisonous or something?

[She lets out a slightly startled chuckle. Okay, there's a first.]

No, I'm not an Aesir or a Vanir. I'm a Valkyrie. We're... humans brought back after we die, to serve and protect the Nine Realms. And as for the plant, well, let's just say that it likes to get in your personal space.

Oh... [ They should form a post-death club! ]

A protector of the Realms? Sounds pretty important.

Not a whole lot, but if we need to start up a farm again, I know who to call.

[It would have plenty of members.]

Generally, we keep people from throwing any punches that might start a war. Unless Asgard wants a war.

[But Meja would probably still try to stop it.]

Keeping the Realms' occupants separate helps negate most conflict. Any time you get an Aesir or a Jotunn in the same room, a fight is inevitable.

I suppose you do.

[She misses the farm. It felt a bit more lively and organic. Sometimes the lab is a bit stifling.]

Hopefully we find a few more useful plants in these last few canisters. I'll cross my fingers for bacon plants, shall I?

[ Yep. Most over-subscribed club in the Science Center. ]

Still pretty important.
