[It hadn't taken her long to figure out the phone, but even if she knew how to use it she was determined to wait. Maybe she would run into someone in person and get better answers about where she was.

She was damn sure it wasn't where she was supposed to be.

Her attempt to leave the room was good until the door was about to close behind her and a red blob appeared out of nowhere. A quick slap didn't deter it and she quickly retreated back behind the door for a temporary reprieve.

Time for answers.]

Where am I? 'Cause this wasn't where I was before that dick interfered so I don't know why I'm here. [She has places to be. Kind of. The phone moves back a little and it's obvious that Jo is leaning against a door that has something banging against the other side.]

And what's with the red blubber? [Sooner or later it's going to get underneath the door, isn't it?]

Vague is all we have, I'm sorry to say. [Meja offers a friendly smile, if an apologetic one.] We were all brought here by a machine that scientists were monitoring. We think. Except the scientists have all completely vanished, and now we're stuck in this building.

[She misses the outdoors.]

Sometimes it sends people home, and sometimes it brings them back. And... sometimes they're missing memories of being here.

Yes. I'm afraid so. It does give us plenty of food, at least. I suppose it must like us. But the downside is... [She makes a gesture in the direction of the jello.] Things like that tend to happen on a weekly basis. You have to be as ready for them as possible.

[Meja wouldn't starve to death. Can't. But she wouldn't like to see others starve. That's part of why she's growing things. Just in case the food supply does dry up.]

At times, it's quiet enough, I suppose. But these things always start up eventually. It makes the quiet somewhat... disturbing by comparison, if you ask me. But I digress. It's not all that bad. We do have an interesting group of fellow prisoners.

I don't know, anymore. Many were taken, and it's difficult to keep track of everyone. The last count hovered at about twenty. At our largest, I believe the number was closer to forty.

When people come and go, you mean?

[Meja considers.]

It does seem to be. I've never been able to find a pattern. I don't think anyone else has, either.

If there's a pattern, it's likely very complex and specific. And we lack information on the machine to determine what those parameters might be.

[Meja isn't much help, in that regard. Technology wasn't exactly in its heyday when she was human and mortal.]

[It takes Meja a second to remember that particular slang. Apparently she's getting re-acquainted, as of late.]

Yes, it does. I'd been hoping that staying here as long as I have, I'd have more answers simply from time. But that hasn't been the case.

About...

[She has to think.]

It's hard to tell, here, but I think I've been here about six months. Or perhaps a bit more.

[Meja shrugs lightly. In a way, it's easier for her. She has a different view of time. Six months isn't as long for her as it would be for a mortal.]

No, it's all right. I don't mind it. Sometimes the things that go on are... trying, but I'd much rather stay and figure out how to get everyone else home. Rather than go home quickly and forget.

It makes staying a little easier, when you have something to get back to. Not that I don't enjoy my company here. There's always something going on, as well, which... is both good and bad, I suppose.

Yes, that's true; it's never dull, here.

[She smiles.]

To that end, should you ever need assistance, you need only call. My name is Meja.

[Time to get re-acquainted.]

Nice to meet you, Jo.

[That they've met before can be a bridge crossed later.]

Don't let this place get to you. It's not as bad as it seems, most of the time.
