Hello!  I am Jones, if we have not yet met; it's occurred to me that it might be wise to advertise some skills of mine in the event that some of you might be in need of them.  In these kinds of strange situations we must all work together, yes?

If you require additional clothing or alterations made to clothes you already have, I am an experienced tailor and can make nearly anything you might want, although I will note in advance that the fabric choices here are somewhat limited.  I can also effect repairs to most any of your belongings, should they be broken or damaged.  I shan't ask for compensation, though donations of material would be much appreciated.

I live at #18, though please let me know in advance if you'd like to drop by, so I can be sure to be there!

Well, you see, I've come here, whisked away from my closet and dance bag and all sorts of precious trinkets. I'm devastatingly lacking in anything pretty to wear.

Well, we can certainly do something about that! Though you may have to advise me on the cut and style for clothing as you're far more conscious of that kind of thing that I am; jewelry I should be able to manage easily.

Jones, you're brilliant! I could kiss you. [ And given that she's just the next room over, she's capable of making good on that threat. ]

We'll have a fashion party or something! And I'll help you figure out something less dowdy to wear, yourself. We're in the future, after all; no need to keep dressing like a chunk of lead. [ ...She means well, really. ]

I do not dress like a—

[...no, actually, she kind of does. But it's not like she's trying to be fashionable, though.]

—These are my work clothes. Well. I suppose there's no harm in making more clothes, in any case, since I didn't have the chance to bring any others with me...

Precisely! I can't wait to find something that's not so boringly practical to wear — I almost don't feel like myself without my dancing dress.

And now I can look forward to seeing you get dolled up too. [ She may or may not be having entirely too much fun with this. ]

Perhaps we'll even have occasion for dancing sometime soon!

That, or we'll simply have to make an occasion. I've already made at least one threat to dance on a table.

...I should hope you wouldn't have to resort to that. I suppose if nothing else it seems to be becoming about the season for Christmas; perhaps someone will organize a party.

Hi. I don't think we've met yet. I'm Tony.

I don't think we have! It's a pleasure to meet you. Have you not been here long, then?

Three days, I think. How about you?

[She has to think for a moment, counting off on her fingers—] Ah, a little more than two weeks now, I think. It seems like far longer, though; I suppose things have just been... busy.

[manofiron]

Earthquakes and dire wolves, right? I think I just missed the party.

[wandandsickle]

Indeed. I did not see much of the action myself, as I am not much one for hunting, but I'm glad that is about done with! [Distractedly, more to herself than anything else:] Though I'll probably want to see if I can improve the supports in this house, in the event that there is more seismic activity...

You're an architect?

[ Tony's listening, whether she's speaking to herself or not, and it sounds like something he could actually help with. ]

Because if you need help with that, I can lend a hand.

Oh, really? That would be wonderful, thank you; architecture is not really my primary area of expertise, so I'd appreciate any help you could offer.

I wouldn't say it's my primary area, but I've built a home in Malibu and I designed one of the largest buildings in Manhattan.

[ He grins teasingly. ]

Neither one's collapsed yet, so I think that's a good sign.

Goodness! That's quite the accomplishment. [Sheepishly:] Most of my experience is from doing repairs for neighbors.

Well, technically I'm a neighbor now, so if you need a few repairs, I can do the same.

Oh, that's so kind of you! I may well take you up on that; more hands make lighter work, after all. If you don't mind my asking, what is your primary area of work?

[manofiron]

Technology. Right now I'm in the clean energy business.

[wandandsickle]

Oh, wonderful! I'm in engineering myself, although I imagine most of what I work on would be fairly dated to most of the people here. I've been fascinated to hear about the things the future will bring. For example, I gather that these kinds of communications are fairly commonplace to many of you, but to me it's still quite novel. What does it mean to be in the clean energy business?

[manofiron]

Mostly, it's developing energy sources that have no emissions, no radiation, nothing. Safe for both people and the environment. It's not much of an industry right now, I am the industry. But some day, maybe, there will be others.

Honestly, this method is kind of novel to me too. What are you used to?

[wandandsickle]

[ ...what did all those words just mean. ]

Well... mostly the telephone and telegraph.

Old school, huh? Hey, I can appreciate that. Don't worry. You'll get used to these things in no time.

I'm happy to help, although I'll have to see what we have in the way of colors for fabric. I might be able to make some sort of dye, maybe... Do you know your measurements?

Is skinny-as-fuck a measurement? I'm that.

The more specific they are, the better they'll fit—would you mind coming my coming 'round to do that? It won't take long, and if you have examples of what you consider to be, er, "looking awesome," that would be lovely—I don't know if you've noticed, but I'm a little behind most others' times on certain things, including fashion.

[He cuts the feed and a few minutes later, he's knocking on her door.]

[ she opens the door. ]

Goodness, that was quick. Er, well, come inside, then—feel free to have a seat at the table while I fetch a few things. [ she gestures to the kitchen. ]

[He moves to sit down, slouching comfortably.]

I'm Kobra, by the way. Kobra Kid.

[ she gives him a quick smile, and then disappears off around a corner, though it doesn't sound like she's gone very far. ]

Pleased to meet you, Mr. Kid. I believe I mentioned before, but you can call me Jones... [ her voice trails off, briefly muffled by the sound of her rummaging through a hall closet. ] Ah, there. Hm, yes...

[ she reappears from around with a long piece of string, a pen, a short wooden ruler, and a notepad. ]

All right. If you don't mind standing again?

[He stands, holding his arms out with the same grin he's always flashing.]

Kobra's fine. Or KK. Or, you know, whatever, 'long as it's not too insulting. Just don't call me Kid without the capital K.

Ah, Kobra it is, then. [ It's certainly no stranger than what a number of her colleagues call themselves. She holds the piece of string at his shoulder on one end, stretching it down toward his wrist. ] So is this much like home for you?

Honestly, it's a little nicer. Beds and electricity and shit are pretty awesome and we didn't have much access to that stuff before.

Couple of my friends are still missing, though. It'd be a lot better if they were here, too.

I think a woman used to live in my assigned house... I don't think me or my roommate are gonna make much use out of those. Do you think you could take them apart for material?

Oh, absolutely! That would be lovely, thank you.

And I, uh... found some clothes that are a little too small for me... if you could help me out with that.

[ His arms and chest are having trouble fitting into anything in the provided closet without looking like he's trying to win some bodybuilding contests... ]

Oh, certainly! I'm sure I'll be able to work something out. Do you know your approximate measurements, or is there sometime I could stop by to take them?

I can come over. I haven't... gotten measured in awhile.

[ Last time he did he was 5' 3" and 100 pounds. Coulson might know his measurements, but he's not going to call and ask... ]

Oh, please do, then. Whenever happens to be a convenient time for you is fine—for obvious reasons, I do not have over-much to do here.
