02 [Accidental Video]
[That morning, Blaine discovered a package that seemed to have appeared overnight. There was nothing to indicate who it was from, or if it was even for him. But it seemed strange to think that someone would have entered his room without asking just to drop off a package that may or may not have been for him.
He debated for a few minutes what to do with it, before deciding that it might have been something from Kurt, who had left it plainly wrapped and unlabeled just to be mysterious. When he opened it, he found a sweater that looked like it would fit very well with his choice of clothes, and he smiled to himself, making a mental note to get something in return for Kurt.
It wasn't until a few hours later that he noticed something was wrong. There's a crashing sound as Blaine's just walked into a chair and knocked himself to the ground, an action which is not-so-conveniently caught on video for everyone to see.
Blaine mutters to himself as he picks himself up:]
I didn't even see that there. What's going on here?

I didn't even see that there. What's going on here?

[voice]
Hi, I'm a doctor. Are you okay? Do you need help?
[voice]
I'm fine, I think. It's just hard to see things, like maybe the lights in here aren't working.
[Yeah, that has to be it. It's probably nothing to worry about.]
[voice]
Yeah, you think? Do you want me to come over and give you a once-over, make sure everything's okay?
[voice]
[Because really, why would anyone waste their time on someone who most likely just had a clumsy moment?]
[voice]
Okay, sure thing. My name's Bruce, by the way. Can I get yours? I'm trying to keep halfway decent medical records. [There's a smile in his voice, calm and full of reassurance.]
[voice]
It's probably not easy keeping things straight in a place like this.
[voice]
It's a bit chaotic, yeah, but I have some good nurses. Well, friends-come-nurses. Lydia Martin and Tony Stark. You can call any of us if you have an emergency.
Now... Could you tell me a little about what's going on? Something's wrong with your eyesight?
[voice]
That's good to know, thanks. [For some reason, Blaine's stuck on thinking about things like the kraken, hellcats, and direwolves, all of which would probably involve needing some sort of medical attention, if he or a certain young fashionista were to run into one.]
It's probably nothing, but like I said, it looks like the lighting in here isn't working the way it should be.
[Yes, he's going to stick to that story until he can't anymore.]
[voice]
And when did this start? [He's still trying to sound as neutral as possible, just taking notes here, gently prompting for information. He'd let it go for real, but he's concerned. Sudden-onset vision difficulties in someone as young as Blaine seems? Yeah, sure.]
[voice]
but anything's possible.]I don't know, maybe twenty minutes ago? [He's still not convinced anything's wrong. Maybe walking into that chair was just the result of him being distracted or something equally mundane.]
[voice]
[voice]
That's definitely a separate thing. [There's no hesitation at all, even if this is sounding too much like an examination for his liking.] I'm eighteen.
[voice]
Have you eaten today? Been drinking water? Change your lightbulbs lately? [The last is a semi-joke, because Blaine really could be right, he guesses, but he's on edge after being a guinea pig. He's not putting anything past their captors, including medical... fuckery. Including medical fuckery with someone who's only eighteen, Jesus.]
[voice]
Yes to both things, and I'm pretty sure the lightbulbs were fine last night.
Um, I don't want to be rude, but is there a point to all of this? Is there something I should be worried about?
[voice]
There might be, if your vision's changing, if that's what's even happening. This place is weird, right? I'm just trying to figure out if there's a reason for you not seeing a chair in the middle of the room.
How do things look now?
[voice]
Before, things looked like they'd been covered in a grey fog but he could still make out what the objects in his room were, but now all Blaine can see are very faint outlines. He swallows hard, trying to process this.]
I can see shapes of things, their outlines, but not very much else.

[voice] --> [action]
[Bruce hurries over, bringing along a small medical bag with him. He considers calling Lydia or Tony, but it might be best to see what's going on for himself and then give them an informed report later.
He knocks on the door once he's there and calls out.]
Blaine? It's Dr. Banner. Is the door unlocked? Don't try to come open it if it isn't.
[Because he can pick the lock.]
[action]
Come in, it's open.
[action] forever and always
Okay. Hi there, Blaine. [He takes a seat next to him and pulls a small light out of his bag.]
I'm going to help you as much as I can, okay? First I'm going to need to look at your eyes. Could you turn towards me?
[And now he'll see how good of a job Blaine manages at that, as he's poised and ready to help direct him.]
no subject
Hi. Thanks for coming.
[He sits there, feeling a little awkward as he waits for Bruce to tell him what to do.]
Sure, I can do that. [Or he can try, at least.
He does his best to turn towards the older man so that he's facing him, but he overshoots just a bit and ends up looking over his shoulder instead.]
no subject
Look up. [He flashes the light quickly across Blaine's eyes.] Now to the side. [Again, he flashes the light. Not good.]
That's good, thank you. [He lets his chin go and taps the light against his palm.]
Blaine, I'm going to be honest, though you probably already know this. You seem to have developed some quick onset blindness. Now there's no reason to panic; it's probably temporary, especially with the way it seems to have come on suddenly, but I need to figure out the cause, so I'm going to need you to think. Have there been any changes in your diet or your environment lately?
no subject
That is, until he hears Bruce's diagnosis. His face falls and he swallows hard, trying to process this piece of news.]
I haven't been doing anything different, as far as eating goes. The only new thing that I've put in here is that box on the bed. I'm guessing someone left it for me, but I'm not really sure who. [He thinks it's from Kurt who's in the room next door, but he doesn't know for sure.]

[He bites his lip, glancing over at it.]
Don't touch it again, okay? And don't let anyone else touch it either. I don't have the stuff to pick it up now, but I'll come back around later.
Do you have someone here with you? Kurt lives here, doesn't he?
[Wait a second...]
Hey -- aren't you his boyfriend? [He had other things on his mind, okay!]
no subject
And yeah, Kurt's over in room A. [Blaine pauses then, surprised by the question.]
And yes, he's my boyfriend. [He might even be smiling a bit, because thinking about Kurt makes him do that.]
no subject
He was sure missing you. You make sure you stick by him, don't try to wander off on your own.
no subject
I don't plan on leaving him, and I hope this doesn't last too long. I was going to work on getting us a way to defend ourselves. {He was actually going to ask around about handling firearms, but he can't very well do that if he can't see.]

[He doesn't want to imagine a situation in which he's not around and Kurt's by himself again, but it's a possibility he has to consider.]
no subject
I'll be back for the package. Do you need anything before I go?
no subject
Thanks, I appreciate it.
[He sits back in the chair, arms crossed.]
I'll be fine. Thanks for coming by. Really. [He's really appreciative and thankful for Bruce's help, even if there isn't a lot to be done right now.]
I don't have anything to pay you with, but I'll figure something out.

[All valid possibilities.]
Maybe you're just a total klutz, dude! It happens.
no subject
Well, I don't think I'm a total klutz, and with everything I've heard about this place, poltergeists don't seem too out there. Actually, someone playing a prank on me doesn't seem too far-fetched either.
[None of that explains the fuzzy quality of his vision, of course.]

I'm fine, Kurt. I wasn't looking where I was going, that's all. I have no idea how that got there.
Does this room look dark to you?

Kurt, I think something's wrong with my eyes.
no subject
We'll...we'll go see the doctor. One of them. There's a lot. It'll be okay.
no subject
He doesn't want to be like this forever.]
I don't know what's going on or why this is happening. [He pulls back from the hug.] You're okay, right? Can you still see? [because making sure Kurt's okay is more important.]
