001 :: Veronica Mars :: [video]
So here's an interesting thing. I distinctly remember eating some stuff last night because I'm a growing girl and that's what growing girls do, and when I woke up this morning, it's back. Which means someone was in my place last night, and yes, my doors and windows were locked. Not because I don't trust any of you. But I definitely don't trust some of you. [She kids. Except not really.]
And whoever went into my bedroom last night, it makes me sad that you didn't leave a note. So how about you speak up and we get to know each other?

If it makes you feel better, there might be nothing outside of California. Who knows?

So who are the people you said are probably lying to you?

Better Living Industries. They stepped in when the government fell apart. They keep everyone drugged and happy so they don't question what's going on. They say that there's nothing left outside Battery City and it's been years since anyone passed through the Zones into the city, so there's definitely no one left anywhere near the city.

Okay. We're meeting, and you're telling me about this stuff with very simple and slow words. Possibly pictures.

That you back there, V?

[She walks out a few seconds later, tossing a bag of chips at him.]
I hope you like barbecue flavor. I wanted summer flair without having to do that whole charcoal-grilling thing.

You have to have no soul to not like barbecue

[She slides into the seat across from him.] So. You guys still believe in heaven in the post-apocalyptic future?

If there was a God, he wouldn'ta let what happened happen.

Can't imagine you're in a rush to get back, then. Do you have any family back there?

Sorry.
[She isn't quiet for long before the questions start spinning around in her head again, though.]
So if we manage to find a way out of here, do you think you'll try and go to some other universe? One where you don't have the Mayan calendar to deal with?

[He's not really sure how to answer that, though. On the one hand, all these other worlds sound pretty rad. He kind of wants to follow someone home. On the other hand, Poison is still back there. The others, too. He misses them.]
I'd be lying if I said I wasn't thinking about it, though. Maybe I'll follow Dan home to the future in space or go home with Lyds. You think her parents would get freaked out if I showed up at her door?

I hope, for your sake, that her parents are preschool teachers. [Not that she would trust them anyway. Everyone has secrets. Some are darker than others.]

Because if it's both, then yeah. I'm guessing you're going to have a couple problems.

I don't really mind authority figures, though. If they were real authorities, they'd find better places to hide their passwords than the bottom of their staplers.
