[ Good morning, Losties Kore....ites, or whatever you are, please accept a video, featuring Erik's ever-present displeasure with his communicator. He has figured out how to work it by now, but this does not mean he likes it any better. B| Behind him, in the slices provided by the small screen, appears to be a kitchen, because that is exactly where he is. God forbid he sit in the living room or anywhere like, comfortable. So kitchen table it is. Charles is probably around somewhere, puttering, being British, but for the moment Erik appears to be alone.

And he has questions. Many questions.]

For those of you who failed to witness the catastrophe that was my arrival here, I'm Erik Lehnsherr. If that name means nothing to you, so much the better. If you think you have some idea of who I am - and I have come across those who do - let me state again for the record that I continue not to be a doctor of any kind, nor do I have any interest in adopting a moniker invented by bored adolescents.

That said. I'm looking for information on what appears to be an ever dwindling food supply. I understand you are provided with sustenance from the sky, but frankly I'm suspicious of quail. At best.

[It's a joke, see, because wandering forty years in the desert and bitching about manna and stuff--never mind.]

Has anyone looked into what might be done on our own terms? Anyone hunting, fishing, looking into the feasibility of farming? If someone's already taken that task on what I can only assume to be very level shoulders, I'd like to meet you. And if not, I'd like to be that person. Not - [he shrugs, loosely] that you're obliged to put your faith in a stranger. But I dislike idle hands, particularly when they're mine.

[Erik's face kind of--twitches. It might be a smile, it might be a wince. Who can say?]

There's a young man here you can ask. Calls himself Darwin, if that's any indication.

[Darwin is also by no means an adolescent. Erik doesn't care, you're all tinies to him.]

Darwin who reassembles himself out of ash Darwin? [ Because clearly there's going to be more floating around, isn't there. Common name, Darwin. She shakes her head quickly, the feed going kind of jumpy as she shrugs. ]

Forget I asked that. So, are you a Rick then? Lenny?

[ But she did actually listen to the rest of the message, believe it or not, and the shit eating grin drops into something a little softer as she continues. ] If you need any help with making this place sustainable, y'know so people don't starve to death and everything, I uh. Lived my whole life on a farm. I can probably help.

[Erik doesn't think the question was as silly as Laura seems to be uh, taking herself to task over, in fact he is quite pleased to answer. Darwin's gifts are extraordinary, after all.]

Remarkable, isn't he.

[Phrased as a statement, rather than a question. But he moves on, since it seems Laura would prefer that, and at the moment it doesn't cost him anything to be civil.]

I've never borne up well under nicknames. [He's boring and tragic.] Erik will do. But if you've got some understanding of agriculture it's a benefit to us all. Is there something like a local grocery? It seems the logical place to look for, ah--

[[There's half a second where the right word doesn't quite form; he's fluent in English, but it's still not his first language and he's not immediately aware of the specific terminology.] Seed packets, you'd call them.

Absolutely freakin' amazing is the term I'd use, but whatever. Remarkable works too, Erik.

[ Super boring, but she'll forgive you this time. Instead she just frowns a little as she tries to think on an answer to the question about... seed packets. That's pretty precious, even coming from a man who kind of looks like his smile could kill people. ]

There's totally a store, I found shovels there so I bet they have other stuff too, right? I'll go take a look and stuff, like if you're busy or you don't want to or whatever. I can do that, and give you and whoever else wants in a hand and stuff.

[If Laura hangs around she can hear Erik say 'broke as fuck', which is 300% more slangy than he usually gets.]

Your tolerance is appreciated. [He's dryly friendly about this. Because his pull point is too early for him to be comfortably calling himself ~*MAGNETO*~. Yet.]

And you'd know more than I would about the suitability of what's available. Although I've been told I'm a quick study.

[ Laura's main hobby in life at Kore is stalking the network, like hell is she missing that. And for the record, she will totally subtly snigger away about it because that's hilarious. ]

Any time, dude. [ At that he even gets a quick salute, two fingers against the temple and then tipped to the air before the feed goes wild as she flops back onto her bed. Hope you don't get vertigo easy, Erik. Talking with Laura via video is like Dealing With Motion Sickness 101. ]

Well, I can totally tell you stuff. Like I'd really like to help out, since I don't want everyone dying any time soon. [ Ha. Ha. That's a joke. ] We can't get started until the weather eases up but if we start preparing now, it should be fine by Spring.

[Erik just assigns all of this to the fact that Laura appears to be a teenager, basically. He didn't have an adolescence and broadly assumes he will never understand any of you.]

Is there something like a calender available, by the way? It was the end of October where I came from.

[He can gauge that it's sort of--winteresque here, but it does feel more like the end than the start, especially since it was light jacket weather back in New York.]

[ In all fairness, very few do understand Laura. She's mostly a mile a minute and few have the capacity to keep with her most of the time. She's on her best behaviour now though, Erik. She wants to show she's useful, see, so she's being nice and calm and not at all rambling. ]

Calendar? I don't think so. I mean I think some people have been keeping track of the days, but no one really knows when we are. Everyone's from different times and places, you see? I mean where I'm from, everyone's dead, and where this other dude is from, everything is normal! It was summer when I left, and now it's winter - and it's freakin' freezing I might add-

[ Okay, so definitely still rambling. She realises it though, cuts herself off and just shrugs with a slightly sheepish laugh. ]

Sorry. Basically, it might be better to ask someone else. Or like, everyone, you know? All I know is it's like, late winter, based on the weather. And that's a pretty huge assumption.
