Cassandra Cain | Day 51 | 002 | Video

[When the feed comes on, it's... probably an accident, really. The only thing in view is murky water and a lot of bubbles, occasional flashes of silver, and every now and then, a pair of feet. The sound is muffled because of the water, but there's a lot of obvious splashing going on.

There's a split second image of a fish and then the comm is out of the water. Cass is catching fish in the forest, no big deal. She tosses her prize toward the pile of them on the shore, then notices her comm is on. Must have been hit by the fish. Or a rock. Hmm.]

Um. Hi! [She waves, then uses her thumb to wipe off some of the water.] Catching food. Have a lot, now. If you... need some, can come take. Lots of fish in river.

Can show... how to catch, too. How to clean, cook.

[She turns to show her catch and there's... kind of a lot of fish. She's been at this for awhile, there's enough for everyone.]

Might... need pillowcases, to carry home.

Pillowcases? Gross. I mean, I thought putting lavender in it was bad enough, but fish guts? That's not gonna help with anyone's beauty sleep.

[Gabriel can always be trusted to pick up on the least important part of what anyone says. It's a unique talent of his.]

[Riley's impressed. She didn't know many people in the Americas who could catch fish with her hands. Smiling, she turned her communicator on.]

I don't mind coming and helping you clean them, if you'd like. I could probably find something to help carry them too.

[She was trying not to seem too eager to be of use, but she was still hoping to be able to make friends here since it seemed like she'd be here for a bit of a stay.]

Can carry them... one by one, back to house. Will take... forever, though.

You got anywhere better to be, kid?

[Cass smiles back at her and nods. Help and more friends are always good things to have more of.]

Yes please, there's lots. Would be here... all night, cleaning them all.

[She wasn't a stranger to cleaning her kills, whether they be fish or something larger and out of water. Helping someone in this new place seemed like the right thing to do. She brushed her hair out of her face and nodded at the image of the girl.]

I can come meet you now, if you like. Help you clean them and bring them back.

[That meant finding a knife, unless she could be subtle about using her claws.]

Not lately.

[Since, you know, they can't actually leave this place.]

Not too far... into forest. Should be easy to find.

I'm Cassandra, by the way.

I'll just follow the smell of fish.

[She smiled at the girl in the video.]

Hi, Cassandra. I'm Riley. I'll grab what I can and come meet you.

[And she doesn't even blink because that's a normal enough kind of ability for people to have where she's from.]

Will be very easy, then. [Cass smiles back.] Waiting for you. Have one knife, but more... always helpful.

I'll be there in a bit.

[With a small wave, she shut off the video feed, pleased to have found someone that seemed to be nice enough. Maybe this place wasn't all bad.

Going into the kitchen area, she hunted around, but she could only find butter knives. Shrugging, she hoped that Cassandra would be too busy fishing or cleaning her own catch to notice a claw. She could work with her back to the girl, which should be easy enough.

Decided, she left the house, heading out in the direction of the woods. She picked up the scent of fish easily enough, following it to its source, which appeared to be a life-size version of the girl she'd talked to.]

Cassandra? Hi.

[ That is a lot of fish. Also, Jesse is actually sort of thinking he can be helpful here, maybe! ] Ay, I can bring some pillowcases, yeah, Science Girl? Or bags or something.

Babygirl, you want a bag instead? Whatchu gonna do with fishy-smellin' pillow cases, huh? [He's amused as all fuck right now, look at her!] You be sure t'remember you ain't the only predator in the forest, huh?

... I'll bring you a bag. [And watch her back.] Where you at? Tell me where I'm headed specifically.

[By now, Cass is back in the water to catch a few more fish. There's not really such a thing as too much to eat, not when there are so many people in the town now. When Riley shows up, Cass smiles and starts to make her way out of the stream.]

Cass is fine. You've... done this, before?

[Science Girl is going to stick, isn't it?]

Would be helpful, Volcano Boy.

[Two can play at this game.]

Well... washing them, still an option. [Seriously people have to take their dinner home somehow. His concern is sweet though, it makes her smile back at him softly.]

Start at... house seventeen, walk straight into forest. Didn't go far, won't be... hard to find. And don't worry, can protect myself.

[ Very much so. ]

Aye aye, cap'n. Gimme a few and I'll jet on over there with some. How many did you catch? 'Cause that makes a difference in how many beds I gotta ransack. [ Already getting his shoes on, here. ]

Hard to get rid of a stank that strong, especially when it's somethin' you sleep on. I'll be there in a flash. [He signs off with a wink and hunts around for one of the bigger, all-purpose duffle bags before heading out into the woods.

It doesn't take him long to find her at all. When he sees her and that pile of fish, he just grins, dropping the bag nearby.]

You're not part bear, are you? That's probably somethin' you should tell a guy up front.

I have a surplus of pillow cases. Where do I drop them off and pick up some yummy yummy fish food?

[This would be surprise. And joy. It's rare to see both or even one on her face, but there they are.]

Has anyone told you that you're amazing?

[Fish, she can cook and eat because it doesn't smell like burning human.]

[Cass can't really count in the general sense, but she can look at groups of things and know how many are there. It comes in handy in fights, so she'll always know how many people are still there, still up, still threats. She looks at the pile, chews her lip a second, then answers.]

Forty-three. Well, four, with last one. [She's been at this a few hours okay.] Hopefully, lots of people... will come take some, won't be leftovers. Won't need... lots of pillowcases.

[She looks genuinely concerned by that for a second, but it's entirely an act.]

Might be. Do get... really excited, over honey.

Find house seventeen, then go... straight into forest, from porch. Didn't go in far, should be... easy to find.

[Okay now she just looks confused.]

No?

Well, that's a damn shame. Because you are. You caught all those by yourself?

Do you need help cleaning them? I'm good at that.
