[ Dean thought long and hard before he decided to do this, and even now he's not sure he should; half the people he remembers doing things to basically deserved it, but Chuck didn't, and that vampire guy with the rice didn't, and Cas... He's trying not to think about what he did to Cas. It's better that way. He's freaked that the whole trickster vibe went to his head the way it did, and he's freaked how quickly he settled right into it. The saddest, most pathetic freaking thing about it is that he can't remember being that happy in a long time.

Apologies aren't really... things... he likes to do, so he's not going to issue a general one. He's had a whole night to feel sick to his stomach, and he's spent most of today putting alcohol into that stomach, and now he's bolstered enough to sort of kind of vaguely dance around the idea that he's maybe kind of sorry for what he did.

Everything you flying monkeys have done to make sure Sam and I exist has mostly been you guys telling us what to do and treating us like the pawns you think we are in some spinoff game of Heaven, an afterthought to the big show, which is that me and Sam and every other human on Earth gets to be wiped out.

And p.s., the last angel my brother and I wrestled with was Lucifer. [ Didn't... exactly end 100% the way they planned, but still. Dean lived to tell the tale. ]

You're the primates Dean, not us. But then, Sam always did live up to the legacy of the Winchesters far better than you. And really, you're humans. We're angels. Your whining to me about our plans for you? Are about as much consequence to us as horses bred and trained to race, or rats bred and trained to run in a maze.

Lucifer isn't in good standing, it does make a difference. And while Sam may have been pulled from the Cage, I'd wager he's suffered more than an dislocated hip. And that's not to mention the fate of your youngest brother, unless you've forgotten all about Adam.

You should have been. It's what you've always wanted Dean, isn't it? To save everyone. Slay all the monster, make sure no little child ever watched his family fall apart because some evil thing killed his mom. We were giving you the chance to do just that. Kill Azazel, all of the others. Yes, humanity wouldn't have survived it, but all of them would have been safe, at peace, happy for the rest of time. And now, because of you? They struggle. They bleed. They die. They become prey and monsters. They make deals and get dragged off to Hell. All because of you, and your brother.

[ Which would you rather have? Peace, or freedom? It isn't like he hasn't asked himself that a lot since Cas asked him or anything, but he still doesn't know what to think about Heaven, what to trust about it. Yeah, it's better than Hell, but that's not saying a lot. ]

They're free. They don't have anyone making their choices for them.

[ And if Dean and Sam get their way, they'll close off Hell for good, and if they made the wrong choice, at least people won't suffer more than they have already. But no, he doesn't think they did. ]

There are millions with others making their choices for them Dean. People in slavery, people born into dictatorships, people born into war torn areas of the world ruled by those with the most guns. People born into families where they are beaten and starved for not doing exactly as they are told. Don't delude yourself into thinking freedom is universal, because it isn't. Others whose freedom are limited to horror you won't let yourself imagine. Millions of others who are nothing more than children, and trust me, would much rather be safe and in Heaven than slowly starving to death or dying for lack of clean water to drink.

[ And when the damned don't move on, become ghosts and harm others, what then Dean? ]

What you know of the condition of humanity leaves you pitifully ignorant Dean, or else you are far more cruel than anyone every suspects.

What he knows about Heaven is that it's some kind of weirdly cut off thing where everyone's alone and forced to life through a This is Your Life for all eternity, and why should he trust that any of those douchenozzles actually care about keeping the souls in Heaven safe? Because to him it could seem an awful lot like a tranquilized, herded mass incapable of having thoughts or free will.

You say that like you angels are all squeaky clean too, like your entire whatever isn't full of backstabbing and shady brainwashing. Aren't you soldiers? Just because you don't know how to think for yourself doesn't mean everyone's better off that way.

We're called The Host, Dean. Surely you aren't so reliant on others to research for you that you haven't heard the phrase. Soldiers have commanders Dean, who make the plans and decide the details. Besides, at least to my present date ever angel you've met has made choices on their own, most just haven't chosen what you believe they should.

[ Michael, Lucifer, himself, Gabriel, Zachariah, Joshua, Anna, Castiel, Uriel - they had all chosen their paths. And there had been others. It's wasn't 'free will' as most humans thought it, but they weren't machines, not even of them. ]
