Day 69 | [video] | Dilandau Albatou

[For the first time since he's been in Kore, Dilandau's not looking the least bit put out when making a public announcement. He's alert and in a good mood. Though he's draped on his sofa, it's a deceptive relaxation. He's got the stillness of a coiled spring, ready to jump into action any moment. ]

I hear there's more than beasts in the woods. Does anyone have information about the metal bears who guard the perimeter in the forest?

There's some people strong enough to take the bears down. I can get one of them to pull a chunk of the innards out so you can use your magic to find out some of their secrets.

[ This would probably be true, if Charles weren't a pacifist who refused to use his powers offensively unless there were no other alternative, and Erik didn't actively and suspiciously dislike most humans on principle. Also, no one should tell him his face gets all soft and glowy when he talks about Charles, he'd probably kill them with sticks.* ]

Will I be doing this free of charge?

[ He sounds amused by the idea; he would, actually, just because there is no finer thing in life than exercising his mutation, especially not for a purpose. ]

[He turns off the feed and heads straight out. Within five minutes there's a knock on Erik's front door. Dilandau's eager to win people to his cause.]

[ Excellent, that saves Erik trying to arrange a time and dinner arrangements or whatever, like a person expecting company would do. Instead he answers the door after a minute or so, during which he did at least ...make coffee? It's not like this is really a social call.

He jerks a thumb over his shoulder. ] Kitchen, if you please.

[ Because table, and coffee. Erik already has a mug; if Dilandau is so inclined he may help himself though there is a dearth of anything to add to the coffee. ]

[Dilandau ignores the coffee; the foreign drink makes him unpleasantly twitchy. He simply sits at the table and waits for Erik to join him before talking]

There's a man who can build a machine to help us escape. He needs a distraction so our captors don't watch him too closely. I intend to start pulling those bear-guards apart to make the distraction.

Perfect, an excuse to drink the entire pot. This is the best thing that's happened to Erik today. He considers Dilandau over the rim of his mug, face mostly obscured by his own hands. ]

[Dilandau leans forward, completely confident in what he's saying]

What he's proposing is possible. I've seen a power back home that can summon beams of light to transport people across the void between worlds. My enemy caught me in one once and I was thrown across three days and the border of a kingdom in an instant.

The Sorcerers in my world say they're made with controlled ripples in Destiny. The man here days he can do it using his power to control time, but that's just another way of twisting the same fabric. I wouldn't be doing this if I didn't think he meant what he told me.

[ Dilandau's conviction actually does make Erik sit forward and pay better attention than he might otherwise; the strength of his own convictions is such that he's drawn to those who are confident in theirs. The actual plan, though, doesn't inspire the same confidence. His world is constructed by science, not magic, and though he considers himself more than adaptable - he'd have to be, considering - it's not an easy leap to make. Then again he's prone to transfer what he learns here as applicable to his own world; a mutant who can control time doesn't sound so implausible. Dilandau is just calling it something different. ]

I'd be willing to see what I can sense from their mechanics. For my own purposes.

[ So he's cautious, but not actually declining, at least not yet. ] Consider me a consultant. [ Sharky grin. ]

I can live with that. You strike me as the type who won't leave a job half-done.
