Sunuva- bitch.

[ The camera goes all screwy as Jesse pushes himself up, sits back on his knees and sweeps his hands off on each other. He doesn't seem to notice the camera's even on as he paws at himself and finally stands, swearing a few times under his breath as he does. Idly beats some gravel off his jeans. He sounds dumbfounded when he finally speaks again. ] I'm back here.

[ And the camera turns with him, a few confused steps before he throws his arms out to both sides, an irritated kind of shrug. ] I'm back- here. [ And his hand raises again, so he can first tap a finger against the screen, and then slap an angry palm against it a few times. He repeats, ] Sunuvabitch.

[ Then he finally fiddles with the buttons, intending to turn on the communicator, but, ] oh, [ it's already on. ] Ya wanna clue me in here? [ He glances around the area. ] Yo, anyone still out there?

[It's pretty good heroin -- he takes pride in his work, after all.]

I'm not picky. I take the opportunities I can get.

[A pause as he deftly pockets the cigarettes.]

What about you?

Know a couple'a guys like that. 'Cross the board kinda expertise.

[ Jesse folds up the paper again, seemingly satisfied with what he's seeing for now, won't really know until he actually uses it. ]

[ The question gets another long pause before Jesse gestures to Meyer with the drugs in his hand, taps a few fingers in debate against it. ]

I cook. Meth. [ And he wrinkles his nose before he finishes that thought, corrects himself. ] Well, I did.

Meth?

[Now there's something he hasn't heard of. He can only assume it's a drug -- maybe it's just another, unfamiliar name for something else. He's not sure.]

You wanna explain that a little more to me?

[ There's a puzzled expression on his face, like he doesn't quite understand why the hell Meyer wouldn't know his market well enough. Meth was everywhere. How - ]

[ It's occurred to Jesse for the first time, still not adjusted to all this magic and what the fuck ever. The guy doesn't just talk a certain way, he ain't from around here at all, and the look dawns over Jesse's face. ] Yo, what year you from?

[Most people had guessed he wasn't from this time just from his distinctive accent, his suit, his way of holding himself, but then, he wasn't wearing the suit these days, and maybe people from Jesse's time had similar accents, too.]

1923.

[It's still strange to say that, when everyone acts like it's the past.]

You?

2010. [ His eyes linger curiously as he pockets the heroin, but they drift away as he turns his attention to finally lighting his cigarette. ] Nearly got a hundred years on you, old man.

[ But back to the question, answering it in layman's terms, and he shrugs a shoulder as he takes a drag. ] Stimulant. Kinda like coke, but it ain't natural - synthesized in a lab. Looks like little crystals when you're through. [ He's almost got a fond look on his face, nostalgic. ] It's- damn good.

[He laughs.]

Yeah, but I bet I'm younger than you are.

[And that's a bizarre thought, that he could be younger than someone from 2010. This place will never quite make sense, as hard as he tries.]

How much can you sell it for? How hard is it to make?

[He's always thinking in business terms.]

Yeah? Ya look it. What're you, twenty?

[ And here's a bit of pride in his voice here, when he taps his index finger into the middle of his own chest a few times to drive his point home. ] For my stuff? Hell, can get up to three hundred bucks. [ He swats a hand at Meyer as though to playfully nudge his arm, only hits the air. ] For a teenth.

All depends on your supplies too. Back home? Had everything, the whole lab. Some of it's hard shit to get, [ you've gotta steal it off trains if you're not really careful, ] but here? Don't stand a chance. Ain't any of the right chemicals, ain't any of the right equipment, even for a shake 'n bake kinda type deal. Place is too full'a people to not get caught. Thought about it a few times before.

[ He pinches at his nose, sniffs. ] Better if ya got a partner for that kinda shit anyway.

Twenty one.

[His eyes widen slightly at the amount of money Jesse's saying he can get for this meth stuff, but he has to keep reminding himself that three hundred bucks in 2010 isn't what it is in 1923. He's not sure exactly what the ratio is -- he could probably work it out, and might have to go back home and do just that -- but it still sounds like quite a bit, especially if heroin 'only' gets one seventy five.]

You got a partner back home?

[ Jesse's eyes narrow in the slightest as he looks at the ground, a dark expression crossing his face. ] I used to.

[ And now he has a gun specifically for any time the guy decides to drop by. ]

He's doin' his own thing now. Gotta replacement.

[He knows that expression well, although he doesn't say anything about it -- that would be impolite.]

Too bad you can't get back into the business here -- I bet there're plenty of people that'd partner with you.

[ Jesse scoffs and shakes his head. ] Yeah, there's an idea. Print'a ad out and put it on some bulletin board. "Hey, yo, ya wanna cook up some crystal? Inquire within."

They wouldn't know the trade, they wouldn't know the cook. Definitely wouldn't know the chemistry, man. Better if I just ain't in the game.

There aren't any authorities here to get you in trouble if you did print out an ad.

[He doesn't really think it's a great idea, but it would be an amusing one, nonetheless.]

Could you teach someone? About the chemistry, I mean. Hypothetically.

Wouldn't exactly be makin' me too many friends here either, compadre.

[ He has to think on that one, drags again off his cigarette and speaks in a flurry of smoke. ] Hypothetically?

[ He ashes the roach, furrows his eyebrows a little. He's run his own labs multiple times, he knows the chemistry as well as anybody. He ain't no Mr White but he's certainly no shard peddler anymore. ] Yeah. Absolutely. Shit's a recipe, ya just gotta follow it.

[He wants to smoke a cigarette of his own badly, which is probably evidenced from the way his hand keeps going to his pocket, but dammit, he's going to conserve them, and smoking one now is a bad way to go about doing that.]

Think you could teach it to someone from 1923?

[ Another pause as Jesse looks straight at him, and his face cracks into a bit of a sarcastic smile, his eyebrows carefully sketching upward. He gestures briefly to Meyer again, lets his hand plop back by his side after. When he speaks, it's with a bit of a chuckle. ]

[ Feels almost like he's coming full circle. ]

You, uh. You wanna cook crystal meth?

Not here. Like you said, supplies are limited.

[A pause.]

It's a matter of curiosity, mostly. You can't blame a guy for wanting to keep himself busy, right?

[ Busy, right. ] And reading's for chumps and old ladies.

[ He peers curiously at Meyer again. ] "Not here," then where? It ain't like I can pull a time machine outta my ass and go back and teach ya.

There's nothing wrong with reading, but some things are better practiced than read about, I think.

[He shrugs, putting his hands into his pockets. These jeans are still slightly uncomfortable to him.]

I mean you can teach me how to do it here, but I won't be making any of this meth stuff here, yes? Maybe I can go home and put those skills to use there. Maybe not. Either way, I'll learn something new.

Yeah. Not all learning comes outta books. [ He taps a finger against the side of his head. ] Hands on, that's how I get mine.

[ He gives a minute shake of his head, no. ] Ya won't remember it. Damn shame, I mean. They wouldn't'a seen anything like it, where you're from.

[ And he hesitates for a while. Because he was out, he's been out for months now. But that was back home, where everything went wrong and none of it seemed like an option anymore. ] Yeah. Yeah, I could maybe teach ya. But it ain't easy.

[ He even wonders, vaguely, about pseudo and just what the pharmacy's looking like. ]

So maybe I go home and forget everything. At least I had something to do to pass the time while I was here.

[A slight smile at Jesse's final comment.]

If it were easy, it wouldn't be interesting.

[ There's a faint smile on Jesse's own face, a little proud for the time being. Eager to participate and all that junk, it's kinda nice to see. Even giving the subject matter. Maybe especially given the subject matter. ]

True that. [ He plays with the filter of his cigarette with a thumb, eyebrows furrowing in thought. ] What wouldja do if we could? Like actually could. Can't exactly be a big market, small place like this.

If we actually could?

[A pause as he thinks about it, narrowing his eyes for a moment.]

We'd have to come up with a way to get people to buy the product. Create a market.

Yeah, yeah. Start slingin' shards, get a whole black market thing goin' on.

[ There's a voice in the back of his head, probably Finch's, vaguely wonders how the hell he'd feel about Jesse picking up his hobbies here. ]

Wouldn't be big but it'd be somethin' to do. [ He scratches a thumb thoughtfully against his jaw, ashes his cigarette again. ] Might have an idea.

Yeah?

[He sounds cautiously interested. If there's a market for it -- or if they can create one -- it'd be something to pass the time, maybe something that'd be profitable.]

Hypothetically speaking, if we did come up with an idea...

[Because of course this is all hypothetical.]

My partner is gonna be involved in any business I'm in.
