Hi.

[ She smiles. ]

For anyone I haven't met, my name is Ruby and I'm the leader of the hunting club. I'd love if we could get everyone together this afternoon in the park to touch base on where we are with the meat supply. Anyone who's interested in helping is welcome to join us and we can try to get you a buddy who can teach you some basics.

Oh! And if anyone wants to learn how to cook the animals we're most likely to catch, I'd be happy to give some cooking lessons, so just get in touch with me.

[ There's really no malice or even annoyance in her voice, though. ]

Can't I school the noobs and brighten everyone's lives with inappropriate humour at the same time?

[Shruuuug. Why, YES. That WAS her subtle way of volunteering her expert hunting experience. Bless the poor soul that gets her as a mentor.]

P.s. Can I just bring the stuff I catch to you next time so you can make more of that amazing stew and not ... whatever the hell Jesse and I made after a bottle of hard liquor.

[ Oh, boy. Much as she'd love to cook for everyone, it's hard in a domestic kitchen. What's one more person, though, right? ]

'Try' being the operative word. [But wouldn't it totally impressive the hell out of everyone in the damn house if she actually learned to make something edible?] Yeah, okay. Deal! And I guess I'll see you in the park.

I signed up for fishing. Still willing, but not feeling very sociable yet.

[She feels okay and looks it, but she's still not up to snuff yet and she feels very vulnerable without Logan. She just needs to get over it for a little while.]

As for the cooking thing... well, I'll fish if someone else cleans and cooks. You do not want me around a stove.

I'll take your word for it, then. We'll have to get a list of who can cook so everyone can partner up. I can't be the only one and we all deserve a decent meal with what we've got.

I dunno anyone that'd be willing to cook, unfortunately. Way too many in my situation and can't. I'll ask around though.

We'll find a way to work it out. It'll be easier when the building group gets us a central place. I hope they can salvage some equipment from the old diner.

[He speaks quietly, so as to work his chest as little as possible; cracked ribs suck.]

Are you only recruiting to start work immediately?

No, whenever you can help is fine.

[ She pauses, considering he options. He's a little shit, but she still feels sort of bad that he's in pain. ]

How are you doing?

[He grumbles]

I'm bored stiff, but I'm not allowed to do anything strenuous for four weeks. I'd be tempted to sit in the woods as bait just to see something exciting if I didn't think half the people here would sit back and watch me get eaten.

I... probably wouldn't let you get eaten.

[ She's teasing mostly. She would save him, but she'd give him a good smack after the fact. ]

Huh, so you've got a soft spot for me? I thought you'd be cheering the bears on as they mauled.

I'm not in the habit of cheering for bears, but maybe if one of those wolves manages to sink its teeth into you, I'll have to change my tune.

If I get my knife up in time you'll have to make wolf soup.

Sure I will. I'll get ready to cook it. Should we tell the town that you're going to catch us a wolf to eat?

And have half of them start complaining about me feeding them their cousin? Just tell them it's forest meat.

Cooking animals is a big... n o p e for me unless it's the pre-frozen kind. In which case I make a mean Thanksgiving. Emphasis on the mean.

What about chopping vegetables? That could help out with time constraints for those of us who don't mind the meat.

I can cook! I just said... I could. [She's just going to pout now.]

The meat's definitely not pre-frozen, though. It's a little fresher than you're used to.

Oh.

[She wrinkles her nose.] Well, as long as it's pre-deaded I can. Make with the dealing. Pretty sure.

Any chance you can catch and cook our roommate?

[She grins.]

Just a thought.

I don't think he'll fit in the oven whole.

[ But she already knows she can catch him. ]

Damn. Not even if we do his legs up like a Christmas turkey?

Nope, we'll have to roast him over a fire instead. It'll be like in the movies.

That sounds like an awful lot of work. Perhaps we should just balance a bucket of water over his door instead.

It's not a bad plan, but he'll probably leave the water for us to mop up. We need something less messy or a mess he can't ignore, at least.

It's too bad we can't tar and feather him.

If we can find some kids' craft supplies, we could probably just feather him. He might actually hate that more.

[ She gets the feeling that emotional torture will hurt him more. ]

So, look for craft supplies. Got it.

[She offers a grin.]

I don't mind helping with cooking at all.

[Eating it is another story.]

Hunting, however, I'd love to learn. My roommate is more of a meat eater than I am.

Come to the meeting and we'll get you set up with someone so you can learn.

[ She smiles. ]

And you might want to get in touch with Jubilee if you like to cook. She mentioned that she can't and it might be good to buddy people up for that sort of thing. Maybe she can help you out with something else.

Okay. I'll try to be there. I'm helping with gardening stuff so, I might be late.

Take your time. How's the gardening going? I'm not the most experienced, but I'd be happy to lend a hand for manual labor.

It's slow going but we're still making progress. The ground is full of rocks.

We'll make this work, though. I hope. I miss salads.
