Day 91 AM [video] Public + Private to Maggie
[Dilandau's lying on the sofa in his living room, holding his arm above his head to film. He's forgone his usual armour-and-diadem getup for a red shirt from the wardrobe. The swelling on his face has gone down, but the bruising has faded into an unattractive yellow]
Kenzi, I've finished that trap. Come to 15 and I'll show you how to set it up. I'll make another once we're sure it works.
[To everyone else, the message seems to end for a moment as he makes a message Private to Maggie]
Maggie, I want to see you later too. I've got questions about those dreams of yours.
[To everyone else, the message appears to start up again as he switches back to a public message.
His expression sours and he pushes his hair off of his forehead, huffing. He's obviously irritated at having to ask something that he feels beneath him]
Is there anything useful to do that doesn't involve heavy labour? I'll even take recommendations for books that won't bore me to sleep if there's nothing to be done. Or Mina, have you found any herbs that'll speed up bone healing since we've spoken?
[He very much doubts that the answer will be 'Yes', but it never hurts to ask.]

And now you're being helpful again? Make up your mind about me, woman, I'm tired of your games.
I apologized, Mr. Dilandau. And I'd offer to help with your injuries, but you don't seem to want it.
And now you're a secret doctor too?
[She's not sure. She's never done it for a human before.]
How? If it involves you jabbing at me with a needle you can stay in your lighthouse.
[She's not sure how to describe it. And if it doesn't work... she doesn't want to assure him that it will.]
No jabbing, I promise. I can't promise that it will work. I've only done it once.
[To a cat.]
Re: [Video]
Faith in you or from you? And what happens if it goes wrong?
[She's not sure how to explain it! It's something she's never done with humans before.]
If it goes wrong then nothing happens. You don't get a respite from your pain, and everything goes on as normal. If it goes right, some of the pain should be eased.
What payment do you expect?

[Video] -> Action
[She actually waits 45 minutes, having gotten busy looking at books in the library. She doesn't remember everything from the one marine biology class she took as a filler in her junior year of high school.
Brigid knocks on the door, carrying a couple books in her arms.]
[Video] -> Action
Do I need to lie down or can we do this seated?
no subject
[She steps in and sets her books on a side table. She flexes her hands. It will hopefully work. She wants it to.]
I just need your shirt off.
no subject
I'm not doing this in the hallway. You can put those books on a table in here.
[With that he enters the living room. He's too tense to keep his back to her, so he turns so that he's facing her as he unbuttons his shirt. He leaves it folded neatly on the table before he starts unwinding the bandages around his chest. The bruising here is far deeper than on his face, especially up the left hand side, where there's still a vague outline of a shoeprint among the marks.
Once his torso is bare he sits on the sofa and watches her warily]

I hope this works.
[Her fingers are cool when they settle against the shoe print. She can feel the pain, the smell surrounds her. Brigid pushes it out of her conscious mind and concentrates.
It's not like accepting the pain from the cat. She remembers the terror and worry that the cat had felt around her. But Dilandau is different. Brigid furrows her brow and concentrates.]
St. Raphael, please guide my hand and my skills so that this works for him. I have no wish to smell anyone in pain... Great Healer guide my abilities.
[The prayer is silent as she stares at her fingers against his skin.]
no subject
The bruises still look terrible, marring his perfect torso. His first instinct is to jab them sharply to see if he'll feel them.]
no subject
She smiles brightly almost laughing.]
It worked! It actually worked! I've never tried it on a human before.
[She doesn't bounce in place - though she wants to, but pulls her fingers back, away from his bare skin.]
How does it feel?
no subject
Maybe living among you demons isn't all bad.
[He draws another deep, deliberate breath and holds it there for a moment, right at the point of satisfying expansion, before letting it all out in a whoop. He looks over, meeting her eyes, and there's a smile on his face like he hasn't worn since the first time he met her.]
I'd forgotten what it felt like to breathe.
no subject
[She hisses the words at him. He just had to go and ruin the moment. Good think she hadn't hugged him like she'd wanted to. She's surprised it worked.]
It's not a cure. Your ribs are still broken, they're still going to be sore, and if you overdo it, they're going to remind you that's a bad idea. But it should last a few hours. I hope.
[She bites her lip. Brigid really isn't sure how well this is going to work.]
no subject
Not a human either, which makes you a majority here.
What happens when it wears off? Is it going to rebound on me?
no subject
[She can smell them. Yes, it's creepy, but she can't help it.]
No. It'll just hurt. It may seem like it hurts more, since you've been without pain for a little while. But, take it easy. Don't push yourself. Treat it like heavy duty pain killers.
no subject
[It's an exaggeration, there's not an ounce of flab on him. He retrieves his shirt and starts buttoning it on again]
I'll accept this as a peace offering for now. What are you charging for the future?
no subject
[She pushes herself up and reaches for her bomber jacket. There are patches from her father's military service on it. Her fingers ghost over one as she contemplates.]
We'll negotiate when the time comes. I'm not sure just yet. But if you can let me know when it wears off, I'd appreciate it.
no subject
Yes, Doctor.
[He flops onto the sofa and the annoyance fades as he realises how relaxing it is to sit without the pain. He arranges himself into an elegant sprawl and reaches out for one of the books she'd left on the table]
What are these you're carting around?
