Third Drink | Video | Day 97

[Ellen doesn't look real happy. She's not, but normally she's a bit better at hiding it.]

New batch is out of the still but it's weaker than the last one. If anyone wants a bottle, stop by and pick it up.

[She sips water out of a glass. She's got other things to say.]

We're going to need things to run through the still. Rice, oats, cornmeal, frozen fruit, anything that can be run through the still.

If you find anything in the forest, dandelions can be used to make wine, too.

[She almost turns it off, but stops for a second.]

Also, got a haunch of venison, if anyone's willin' to trade for it.

That's better than some here. You gettin' enough to eat? Where are you staying?

[ teach charlie your ways, ellen. but actually don't she can't hold her liquor worth a damn. ]

Eat, yes. Been fishing, actually. [ oh ho ho ] And uh, house. I found a house. Met my roommate too - kinda weird guy. Seems cool enough. [ nevermind they both managed to live in that house for a few days without actually noticing each other... ] I mean, for nightmare-fuel-from-hell, I guess I'm settling in.

[Come to her, Charlie. She will teach you everything.]

You need anything, kiddo? Even if it's just a talk, the bar's always open.

[ not like she hasn't been minus a mother figure her whole life or anything. ]

Not unless you've got an internet connection hidden somewhere. [ ha ha she's so funny don't you think she's funny, ellen? ] But thanks. I'm starting to get a little sick of my immediate neighborhood anyway.

[ neighborhood? yeah she definitely means just her house and wherever dean is because she kind of follows him around. ]

No internet, but decent food and some company. Can teach you a few symbols and stuff to keep you safe.

[ it has been her dream since she read those books to become an honorary harvelle, so uh, yes. ]

You know, that is probably the greatest thing I've heard since the release date for the 3DSXL. I'm there.

I'll take that as a good thing. My video game expertise ends at Duck Hunt.

[ wait ]

Yeah, we had one at the Roadhouse. Jo held top score.

Somehow that doesn't surprise me.

[ charlie is so not sighing dreamily right now nope. ]

Nope. Unfortunately. I'm sure Jo would love something to do other than help me out.

[She's teasing, mostly.]

Darn. I'm majorly suffering from video game withdrawl. I'd be happy with pacman at this point.

[ dramatic sigh ]

Don't look at me. I'd rather read a book.

They have books here?

[ because she'd take a tolkien any day. ]

There's a whole library of 'em. Don't know what's in there, but there's some good ones about the local flora and fauna. Robot bears aside.

Seriously? There's an entirely library that I just don't...

Well. Dean probably wouldn't have told me. But still. That's got to help something, right?

Yep. Dunno what’s in there, but that’s where I’m gettin’ mine. And it’s a bit low on the hunter selection, but there’s some stuff on survival, since my knowledge is rusty. Haven’t had to use it in forever.

We should update it.

[ whoa, okay, moment of brilliance here. charlie needs half a moment to let that sink in before her eyes go a little wide. ] No, wait, seriously. With you and Dean here we could totally build up a like. Beastiary or something. A How To for hunting!

[Ellen just lets Charlie babble on. It’s adorable to watch. Look at the baby hunter.]

Most hunters have their own personal journals. Things they’ve learned in hunting. I don’t have mine here, though. Not sure if Dean has his.

[John’s. Whatever.]

Yeah, but if you got them all to universalize? Brought it down to one database? That'd be sweet.

[ and, not in nerd: ] I mean. Useful. Right?

Not gonna happen. Hunters are solitary folk. A few husband and wife teams, maybe family members running together, but they like going their own way and not having anyone too close.

[Hell, even her and Jo had split up a couple of times. She’s not sure that Charlie understands what it means to be a solitary separatist like most hunters were.]

Not saying you can’t, but most hunters aren’t going to talk to you. If you can find them.

Like anyone could resist my charm.

[ please, ellen. have you met her? but she'll give a sheepish little look just in case she didn't catch that monumental amount of sarcasm. ]

But Dean's got John's. And then there's yours - if you'd help, or if you wanted to, totally up to you. And Jo and I'm sure Cas could have some idea on things. And I've got one started. Mostly just internet research but...still. It'd help.

[ and then, just to amend it a little... ]

It'd help us. And Dean could use all the help he can get.

[Ellen doesn’t laugh, but it’s a near thing. Instead her eyebrows just end up in her hairline.]

Whoa there. I don’t have mine. It’s all in my head. And Dean’s got John’s, and Bobby. Bobby knows more than most about almost everything. Not saying I won’t help, just pointing it out.

You have your whole thing memorized? Seriously?

[ wait. wait. ]

Bobby's here? What?

Not memorized, but I got more than my fair share of knowledge tucked away.

[She still has to double check things now and again, but she's good enough at it.]

No, Bobby ain't here. Back home, Dean's got Bobby...

[She trails off.]
