Third Drink | Video | Day 97
[Ellen doesn't look real happy. She's not, but normally she's a bit better at hiding it.]
New batch is out of the still but it's weaker than the last one. If anyone wants a bottle, stop by and pick it up.
[She sips water out of a glass. She's got other things to say.]
We're going to need things to run through the still. Rice, oats, cornmeal, frozen fruit, anything that can be run through the still.
If you find anything in the forest, dandelions can be used to make wine, too.
[She almost turns it off, but stops for a second.]
Also, got a haunch of venison, if anyone's willin' to trade for it.

[Jazz mewls, somewhat ominously. If you're a haunch, anyway.]
I'll keep an eye out for dandelions when I go through the park.

[Everyone is going to be bringing her dandelions. She loves it.]
Not a hassle at all.
[She finds the small burlap sack that had been in the back of the bar when they'd taken it over. The haunch fits into it nicely.]
Here you go.

[Fortescue isn't sure about living in a bar. Well, the practical side of her. The other side thinks it would be excellent.]

Jo'll be glad for something other than venison for dinner. I'm gettin' tired of it too.
[She grabs the fish and dumps them in the big sink in the back. They start swimming - or wiggling, really - around in the sink, since there's just enough room.
Ellen shrugs, offering the woman her bucket back.]
We manage. We're used to it. Jo grew up around the saloon I ran back home.

I see. So you must be quite used to it, then. In general, that is. I can't say I've poked around in the back rooms to know how comfortable they are.
no subject
[She says that with all sincerity. This is coming home for her.]
Here, they're not, but we're working on that.

[Sigils can't be worn off on the ceiling. Nit as easily, anyway.]
no subject
I think I may have seen some, actually. What color?

[She nods to the symbols around.]
Just want to put these in permanent. Paint the salt into the symbols.

That big one in front of the door traps demons. There's a few here for safety, protection, repelling a few nasty things I've run across in my life.
no subject
And the symbols work because of... magic? Or long association with whatever they guard against?
no subject
The trap is the Key of Solomon, dates back to biblical times. Whether it’s faith or magic, or special blessings, I don’t know. But it works. The rest are from various other cultures.
no subject
I see. I never got far enough into Runic or Seid studies to know if my world has the same sort of symbols.
[She was never really the academic type. Not beyond what was needed.]
no subject
Runic I recognize, but Seid?
[She’s willing to learn more protection symbols.]
no subject
It's another school of magic, where I'm from. Magic to do with the mind, and dreams. I'm pretty terrible at it. The most I have is a little training against its effects.
no subject
So something along the lines of what d’jinn can do. There anyway to ward against it? Not that I minded your help, but I like my dreams to be mine.

Not much help, then. I’m lookin’ for more physical signs I can put up. I need this to be a safe house, in case things start showing up.

More protecting my ass. I’m too damned old to be doing the heavy hunting. Don’t mind taking on a demon now and again, but chasing after things? Leave that to the kids.

I'll man the fort, been doing it for more than twenty years.
no subject
I'll not keep you from it. And I'd better go share my spoils with the boys. Have a good rest of the night.
