002 | Day 99 | Video | Alec McDowell
[ Alec went to bed and everything was normal. He was sharing a house with some interesting people and that was the end of it. He remembered flashes of people. Scientists maybe? It was very close to what happened to him at Manticore on a daily basis. He thought he had gotten away from that crap and now he was here. He woke up in his own bed though even though in the dreams he wasn't here. He was somewhere else. He was being poked and prodded. Probably trying to figure out what the hell he was. Sometimes Alec just wanted to start wearing a sign on his head. Maybe it'd keep those assholes away from him if they had the whole story to work with. These people had to know about Transgenics. They couldn't turn on a television without hearing a news story about his kind.
It took a few minutes for his legs to function properly and he started looking the house over. His housemates were just gone. Rooms were basically cleared. A few items here and there dedicated solely to the room, but nothing personal anymore. No one around. Alec was starting to worry. He wasn't sure how much time had passed honestly. Those dreams didn't feel long, but they were just fragments. Not telling Alec the whole story. Yet again another group of people who just wanted to exploit him and his kind. The idea pissed him off. The only option right now was to find out if he missed some big massive kidnapping.
He lifted his wrist communicator and looked down. There was a look on his face that basically screamed he was incredibly annoyed by the whole situation. He wasn't overly attached to his housemates, but he was sorta worried. Max's bleeding heart rubbed off on him a bit, but not enough for him to fly off into a panic. ] What the hell did I miss? Also did someone kidnap my housemates? If so--give 'em back.

[That was pretty damn trippy, to be honest. She pauses for a beat, frowning.]
Sorry to hear about your housemates, if they're really gone. There have been a lot of disappearances lately.
no subject
The fact that this place has suffered a lot of disappearances made Alec a little bit worried. He was actually starting to think that Seattle and Terminal City would be a much better place right about now. ] Yeah. Waking up to an empty house isn't a good sign. Should I be concerned they're gonna pop back in and snatch me up?
no subject
[She frowns, pressing her lips together into a tight line.]
Might be a good idea for someone else to know where you're at for a few days, just in case. Not like we can do much when someone vanishes or get taken, but even if you just go for a long walk in the woods at some point, people might start to worry.

[If anyone does? That's just rude.]
That would be my mother.
[She cracks a smile.]
Sorry. She does that. Usually it's better not to resist.
no subject
[ He's intrigued though when she mentions that Ellen is her mother. That's certainly something he didn't see coming. She doesn't seem at all like that lady, but maybe the apple fell far from the tree. ] I don't what she wants from me. I've never had a mother so--I think I'm doing it wrong.
I guess it just feels wrong.
no subject
[She shrugs. A little eerie at first, but he and Dean have their differences. She doesn't even know Alec, and that much is already apparent.]
What she wants from you?
[That smile hitches wider, amused.]
She just likes looking out for people. Always been a part of her. She's tough, but secretly, she's real soft underneath. Don't worry. You're not 'doing it wrong.'
If you never had a mother, maybe all that means is you could use one now.
no subject
[She can't take care of Dean, so baby!Dean lookalike it is.]

[ It was roughly two weeks ago when Alec showed up in town. With a bullet in his shoulder to top it off. She fixed him up and that was the last he saw of Ellen. His shoulder was completely healed by this point. He's gotten back full mobility, but all that is covered up by his t-shirt and the camera cuts him off at the collarbone right now. ]
no subject
Kid, last time I saw you you had a hole in your shoulder. And there's a food shortage. So, keep the attitude to yourself.
no subject
The food shortage does sound like a problem though. He'll learn to deal though. He doesn't need much. They're designed to go long periods without food or water for operations or if they get captured. Biological warfare as well. They're the perfect killing machines. ] Food shortages don't bother me. Where I'm from every is a food shortage. Hell--everyday is a shortage in everything.
no subject
[Plus, bb!Dean, she needs one of you in her life. The other chose the demon, dammit.]
no subject
no subject
[Which is honest. She knows that Dean will help, maybe Cas. Jo's with her. But she has one advantage over most people.]
But I'm willin' to help. And those that help me get a bottle or two set aside for them, even when supplies are runnin' low.
no subject
She was luring him in with the promise of alcohol. He's not sure what he wants to do though. Booze is good, but is it enough for him to donate his time and energy to these people. ] Bribing with booze. My kinda lady. I dunno. Few bottles of booze only gets you so much Alec time.
no subject
Those who put in supplies to make it, get some.
[She really doesn't care. Plus, anything extra can go in the communal food bank. That's her plan anyway.]

I ain’t never shot anything in the back. I’m going to shoot you? I’ll look you in the eye and do it.
[Even those damned hellhounds had gotten that courtesy and they sure as hell didn’t deserve it.]
no subject
Alec nodded though because maybe she is telling the truth. Maybe she is that type of person. Alec isn't though--so it's hard for him to believe other people might be. ] That's sweet, but I still don't know you. Lying to people's face is my specialty. It could be yours. I'll give you some of the stuff I find though. Not all, but some.
no subject
Son, I’m a bartender and run a saloon, nothin’ more. Anytime you want to know more, stop by. I can spin a yarn or three.
[She nods.]
That’s fine. You put in, you get some of the booze. Fairest way to do it.
no subject
Who were your housemates? I've lost track of who vanished and hasn't come back yet.
no subject
He's straining to recall the females name. He doesn't really get anywhere. He only remembers the males name because he was into science. Alec was virtually a science experiment in himself. ] Can't remember the girls name. The guy was Bruce. Kinda rumpled. I just met them. They're gone though. Just me now.
no subject
I don't think the scientists go from house to house. There's some other factor in who they choose to grab. If you want to stay there, there's no reason you can't. But if you're concerned, there are other places with space free; I'm sure you could get someone to budge up and let you share.
Are you injured at all, or just missing time?
no subject
[ Eventually Alec would be shipped back home. Hopefully these guys weren't looking to kill them. Hopefully they just wanted to study them or something. If he got sent back maybe he could get that Bruce dude to take a look at his barcode before he went. Anyone who could get that thing to disappear would be a miracle. It'd make surviving in Seattle easier.
Alec isn't sure what to think. It's not comforting thinking he's in this place alone now. The house is empty and it's kind eerie. He's used to living alone, but that was by choice. Plus Max dropped by a lot and towards the end he slept in Terminal City most of the time. This was spooky. ] Missing time. Dunno about injured--I heal pretty quick. If enough time has passed I wouldn't know. Thinking I might start soliciting for a roommate or something.
no subject
There are always new arrivals. Keep an eye on the network, see if you can tempt anyone. You're welcome to shout for me if you need anything, anyway.
no subject
He wasn't aware of these other legitimate doctors. He's a little curious to meet them. He could use the help. He's hoping they actually understand what he is and what he's come from. Though he's not sure they well. Manticore doctors are well trained for this field. ] Dunno how un-creepy that'd be. Soliciting new arrivals to come live with me? Kinda screams stranger danger.
no subject
In the meantime, you can always camp in the library, or the bar if Ellen likes you.
no subject
Once Balthazar has brought up the bar he's laughing. His interactions with Ellen have seemed to be confrontational mostly on Alec's end. He doesn't trust easily. He doesn't trust Balthazar, but he likes his attitude. ] Already met her. She keeps trying to mommy dearest me. It's freaking me out.
no subject
Oh, dear. Trust me, you want to be on her good side. She's the one with the booze. [It amuses him to hear that Ellen's been mothering Alec. He wonders whether it's the resemblance to Dean, the apparent age, or a little of both.]
[Her smile is sympathetic, but... a lot of people have suddenly gone missing.]
Are you all right?
no subject
I bet you missed me, huh?
no subject
Your particular brand of [buttery] charm was missing from the proceedings. I had hoped that someone who doesn't like your double hadn't gotten to you.
no subject
He smiled though and bit his bottom lip. He would admit that being kidnapped in his sleep was starting to seem like a downer, but the other patrons weren't too bad. ] The old guy? I dunno. Besides I can handle myself--when I'm awake. Sometimes when I'm asleep too. I'm still kinda thrown off that they could have taken me in my sleep. I'm usually a pretty light sleeper.
no subject
[She gives him a teasing smile.
They have yet to nab Fortescue, but she knows that anyone can be taken and not do anything about it. Like warn others or call for help. It's an unnerving sort of thought, one she tries to stay away from - it's just a facet of life in the Cape.]
It doesn't matter who or what you are, it seems. The scientists have their... ways.
no subject
Alec's never had an ordinary get the drop on him. It's kind of a scary thought to fathom. Even in his worst condition (injured) he'd still be able to hold his own. Knowing some jacked up scientists could best him? It was crazy. ] It's kinda messed up to think I'm gonna be sleeping here alone now. I got no buffer.
no subject
[Good in that it's clear someone is still running the asylum. Bad in that they have a food shortage. And bad in that, hooray, more people get stuck here.]
no subject
no subject
You can always hope. [Teasingly,] Then they can personally tape the 'predator' sign to your back.

Oh, I'm sure you will. I'll keep my fingers crossed for you, shall I?
