I know that this sounds odd. [ And isn't really a question that people generally ask. Also what isn't odd, around here? It's her justification ] But with what's been happening I'd like to know.

[ There's a pause. It's a touchy subject, obviously, and she's not even sure where the conversations might go ]

I want to know about your experience with death. [ She's going to try and go slow on this. As slow as Lydia Martin wanting to know something can. But things are pretty messed up. She feels pretty messed up. And she'll even tell her reasons for asking if she's asked ]

Not just if you know someone has died but... if you've seen it. [ A two second pause ] Or nearly died.

It's happened here, and could have happened a lot more. [ If Dirk hadn't put out that useful message. People were still taken but at least they were warned ]

But- Can people come back? [ It might sound crazy, but it's happened before. It happened to Jackson - twice, although that was a supernatural thing. But it leaves the possibility, right? ]

I'm going to the library. Hopefully it's as useful as it should be.

Of the undead kind? Not too many. Again, thankfully. They used to be more common before the world... was remade. [She would shrug, but Lydia can't see it.] Which is a long story. But occasionally, undead things do still crawl out of the ocean.

Indeed. It's not a joy to be familiar with, if I'm to be honest.

[She pauses.]

Is there someone you wish to come back?

[That had been before Meja's arrival, but any death is hard. She knows that, maybe more than most. That's the problem with being immortal, making friends with mortals. Someday, somehow, they're going to leave you.]

Given the circumstances, death here is especially regrettable. But that shouldn't can be a slippery slope.

I'm sure. [Though she has less information. Good isn't the point.] Death in here being somewhat of an exception, who 'should' live and who 'should' die is much more complicated where I'm from.

[Death is Hel's domain, and if there's one god she respects above all others? It's Hel. That lady's frightening.]
