[For the first five seconds or so, the camera only shows a wall, with some muffled speech in the background. It's very quiet, and no words can be made out - but the general cadence and tone give the impression of a rather exasperated man talking to (and possibly cursing at) himself. A moment later, however, the view spins around as the camera does, so that instead of the wall it shows a disarmingly sincere face, a little closer up than is entirely customary for a video call.]

Well, er, two things. First off, I've been here a few days now, so I thought it might be about time I introduced myself! My name is Julian Bashir. I'm a doctor...

[he trails off, considering: he's come to the conclusion that this 'society', as an amalgamation of different species and cultures from different worlds and timelines is not really covered by the non-interference aspect of the Prime Directive. But even if the development of a civilisation won't be affected by his interfering, if all these people were to go back to their separate worlds with knowledge of Federation technology, that could be a massive problem. For the moment, he's decided that escape takes priority, and besides their cultures would already be contaminated by each other - so what difference would his input make? But just because he's decided not to actively lie about it, doesn't mean he has to be entirely forthcoming, so at the last moment he reconsiders explaining in any kind of detail.]

Admittedly one accustomed to different, er, methods than I think might be usual here, but I'm a very quick study. So if any of the other medical practitioners here would like a helping hand, or should anyone need assistance of that nature at any point, do feel free to get in touch. As for the other matter, well, I shan't bore you with the details, and I'd hate to get anyone's hopes up unduly, but I've a few ideas as to how we might get out of here. But improvisation only goes so far, you know, as far as tools are concerned. I don't suppose anyone would happen to have a hyperspanner on them...?

[ A high pitched sound crosses over the video feed before it shows the Doctor. He is holding the phone in one hand, and flicks his sonic screwdriver in the other. He looks over it once before turning his attention to the recording. ]

Yeah, sorry if that hurt any of your ears. Had to do a basic scan of the device. You know, the usual--checking for hidden feeds and the like. After all! You can't trust something given to you by your kidnappers. Even if they do leave a rather lovely welcoming message. I would have preferred someone to talk to in person, mind you, but at least you bothered to leave a message at all. I suppose I should congratulate you more, but I'm not in the mood for pleasantries.

[ Which makes him bring the phone closer. ] Which, brings me to my point: Kidnapping is wrong in any universe or spectrum of life. Especially when you can find a way to snap someone from a shielded time machine. Sorry, yes, I did say time machine. Obviously if you brought me here you know what I am, but maybe you don't know exactly who I am.

I'm the Doctor, and, if you want my help at all? Then you had best start answering my questions. There was something very important going on back home that you lot have taken me from. So, this had better be one hell of an emergency! Where am I? What exactly is "Cape Kore"? And where did you put my TARDIS?

You've got about--[ he checks the watch on his wrist, ]--I'd say three minutes to start answering my questions before I start to make a scene. Trust me. You don't want me to make a scene.

[When the screen turns on, Garrett is nowhere to be seen. The video is facing outward and quite shaky, but some people will still recognize that he's in the infirmary. As he sees the video is finally working, he breathes a sigh of relief and turns the video back towards himself, jarring the video a little bit. Though it's hard to read emotions on a face half-covered, it's clear that he's scared and trying very hard not to show it.

His voice, still young despite his attempt at sounding more mature, has a peculiar accent to it when he speaks. His words come out stilted without the use of contractions.]

Do not like it in here. Smells wrong, like old blood. Feels wrong. Reminds me of back home, when bodies do not get buried right after battles and then you end up with places full of dark magic. Hell, do any of you know what I am speaking of? So many differences here from home. And I found this.

[The video swings back out again until it focuses on a very large footprint indented into the floor. This is what has gotten him so shaken up. There's an inappropriate, hysterical laugh from Garrett, the kind someone makes when they don't know how to handle a situation emotionally any longer.]

What big beast made that? And is it still around?

[This is no accidental video. It comes on dark, but then the hand lifts away, and there's a tired, quietly anxious face of a middle-aged man with a big nose and a beat-up cap shading his eyes. He looks like he's composed himself, and gazes straight at the screen.]

So I'm... [His voice crackles a little, and he starts again, a slightly hoarse but pleasant baritone.] I'm not even sure if this is the same place I was last, or if the same people are here, but the last thing I can remember is fleeing Cape Kore.

[He licks his lips, swallows, and goes on,] If anybody here does know me, I'm okay, but it'd be great to see a familiar face. Anybody who doesn't know me, Hello, my name is Markus Rathbone, but you can just call me Rat. Unless you're Fortescue. In which case it's Dick Tracy. [There's a ghost of a smile.]

Pleased to meet any of you I haven't yet, as long as you're not the guys in charge of messing with us all. [With that the video drops and spins away dizzyingly to show some bare wall and the edge of a door frame in one of the featureless bedrooms this place has so many of. It might be best not to keep watching, since the view moves a little erratically, but that's accompanied by the sounds of a guitar being strummed, and then some quiet jazz tune played on a single guitar. It's a little echoey, which just adds to the lonely feel of the music.]

[ Kevin's been working for a few days without sleep on the tablet, so when he wakes up, he figures he must've just passed out from exhaustion. He gets all the way to sitting up before he realizes that he isn't in the bunker.

When the feed switches on, it starts first staring up at the ceiling, while in the background, someone is very clearly laying waste to the bookshelf in their room. Kevin steps into the frame as he swings the shelf he'd ripped out to use as a weapon, and he decides it's acceptable before he sets it down. He has a bunch of papers, and as he puts them into an empty pillowcase, the cuneiform symbols can just be seen for what they are -- that is, ancient and unreadable.

He reaches for his shelf again, and now his face fully comes into frame. He looks like a guy who hasn't slept or eaten real food in a few days, with an added couple layers of complete panic. He has no clue where he is, who might've kidnapped him, what they want to use him for, but beneath the panic there's determination.

He made it this far; he won't let them win now.

Once he realizes the phone is broadcasting, he curses loudly and switches it off.

This plan would probably have gone a lot better if he hadn't been Skyping it. ]

[ Tap tap. The first thing you're treated to, oh science center, is the sound of someone's hand on their device, like they're trying to check the quality of it, or perhaps find the microphone. That stops after a second, and a voice comes over the airwaves, deep and warm and sounding like someone coming out of a radio drama.

Hello, listeners. ]

I could have sworn Random Location Bait and Switch week was in July! Man, that city council. Always pulling the wool over our eyes, and only sometimes literally. Hello, Night Vale, I bring to you a special report from what I believe is Carlos' laboratory. It's sort of odd--usually, when they randomly pull me from my studio for the ol' Bait and Switch Week, they include all of my equipment, and there's a hooded figure floating around the new location. And I gotta say...

[ A pause, like he's looking around. ] ...Nnno, no, I'm not seeing one, anywhere! In fact, the more I look around here, the less and less this looks like Carlos' lab--and believe me, listeners, I know the inside of his lab--and the more it might be somewhere new entirely.

[ His voice goes grave for a moment. ] If you can hear me, Night Vale, please make sure you're watching any portals that may have opened in your household. This one certainly snuck up on me, and while there's a lack of--[ Shudder. ] animal viscera, there's certainly something not right about this place I've found myself in.

I will stay on top of the story for you, my dearest Night Vale, and report back to you as soon as I can find wherever they've transported my actual studio.

[ And, almost like he's making a recording into a tape recorder instead of a network, there's a click, and the feed goes silent. ]

[Martha looks calmer and much better rested than she has any other time anyone's seen her in recent posts. She also looks mildly amused and perhaps slightly dazed.]

[Martha had found the infirmary with only a little searching. She was dismayed to find it in the condition it was. But now that it was found, she had to let others know.

When the video comes up, she looks exhausted both from the recent activity and the consistent lack of sleep.]

I guess it's only to be expected that once I got the clinic the way I like it, the scientists would destroy it and force me to set up another one. I've found the infirmary and am working on doing what needs to be done. If you need anything, stop on by. I still have some supplies from the other place.

As for the Variety Show, it seems like we should postpone it until we all learn more about our living spaces.

[Martha pauses, and it's very clear she's not sure if she should bring up what she's about to say. When she finally does speak, it's not nearly as confident as before.]

[ He likes the basement. It reminds him of Manticore. Everything about this place reminds him of Manticore though. The bad lighting and the stale air. This place is almost like home to Alec which is the saddest part of all this. These people seem like fish out of water being plucked from the town, but Alec finds this more up his alley. Broken down facilities mixed with whatever this was isn't that hard for him to deal with. It's a bitter pill, but he's more eager to swallow it than the crap he was in before. Plus the scenery change means he doesn't have to think about Allison going back home. He's been avoiding that for some time now. It's stupid and it makes his stomach tightening just at the thought of how childish he was being. Anita would say it was only human, but Alec doesn't want to be human. Human is less than what he is and he can't be that. He won't.

When the feed comes on he holds the phone up to get a clear shot of his face and the background behind him. He stretches out his arms and smiles. ]
I gotta say I dig the new home we got. It reminds me of home. Add in some drill instructors and a lot of socially challenged young adults and you got my childhood. [ That sounds vague and he's done being vague. Balthazar had a point prior to all this crap. He's a smart dude and hiding this from people isn't going to save him any face. Things are changing and with all these new arrivals he'd rather them keep their distance. Especially when half of them would confuse him for Dean. ]

I've been pretty vague about my life since I showed up, but I guess I can fill in some holes. I'm from 2020. In my world genetic manipulation is possible. Possible times about a million. I was made for a program the government ran entitled Manticore. They wanted to make the perfect super soldier and then crank us out onto the frontlines to fight their war. They spliced our DNA with a bunch of animal DNA. The only DNA I'm sure of is feline and shark. The rest? I dunno. That info went up in flames when Manticore did. I don't know a lot, but what I do know is that I'm not Dean.

[ He clears his throat and sits forward. ] I was made to kill. I'm damn good at it. There was a time that I could look you in the eyes and put one between your eyes. I probably still could, but I'd feel a little bad about it later. I'm not homicidal, but I'll defend myself. It was how I was taught to be.

We were born for a purpose and none of that included a regular childhood. [ He shifts uncomfortably on the edge of the half empty pool. He rubs the back of his neck before settling once more. ] I lived in a facility my entire life. I don't even know my own mother. Technically I'm a clone of my original. His name was Ben. Manticore made backups when they perfected the X5 formula. I was a backup. We were raised by guards and assholes who were only interested in training us and pushing us to the limit. They got what was coming to them though. [ The way he talks about killing is probably a little off putting considering how happy-go-lucky he's been since he arrived. ] I'm a science experiment and in my world humans--they hate us. Wanna kill us. They beat a friend of mine to death because of what he was. So--you'll excuse my reluctance to share with the class sooner. This place though just--I honestly don't know. I think I feel more at home here. Manticore was hell for a little boy growing up, but as a man it was home. I guess this place reminds me of it.

But if any of you wanna step to me because of what I am then I suggest you turn yourself around. I won't hesitate to snap your neck. I'll maybe feel bad about it, but you won't be breathing. We cool?

Allison's gone. I guess that sucks.

[ It sucks more than Alec will actually admit to another human being. He enjoyed Allison. She was spunky and sweet. She reminded him a lot of Rachel, but she had her own flare. He wished they hadn't taken her. Didn't seem fair. He's kinda hoping she wasn't kidnapped like him either. He really hoped she got to return back to her world. She didn't need to be here and be stuck in this crap. It wasn't fair. She was just a teenager, but Alec wasn't much older than her. A few years maybe.

Sleeping with her was never part of his plan. He kinda just assumed he'd bum around this place, but then her and Anita showed up. Anita was wiggling into another part of him as well. Both of them seemed to find the human aspect of Alec from different angles. ]
Completely unrelated, but does anyone wanna trade me some booze? I got some crap lying around you can have at.

[Video - Locked to the Doctor]

[Martha knew he didn't like her. He liked Rose. Was infatuated with Rose. The only time he wasn't infatuated with Rose was when he was human. And without his memories. Then he fell for someone else. It hurt that in both Time Lord and human body, he would never like her.]

[Still, it was a bit of a shock to see him falling for someone else. Someone who wasn't her. Of course it made sense. Martha hadn't been around here as long as he had. Different timelines. It shouldn't bother her. Everything should be fine. But it did. Now she needed time to sort out her feelings. So she called him. She needed to see his face as he said it. So uh...hi.

[ a+ charlie bradbury. best start to a conversation ever. good job. ]

I'm starting to realize this might actually be the worst timing ever, what with the whole destruction of buildings and earthquake shenanigans and all that jazz, but the network's working again! Or like, un-glitch-afied. Again. And I've kind of been working on this for a while? So why not.

[ and now she smiles. big, look at how cute i am kind of thing. she's really cute guys love her. ]

I'm Charlie, by the way. [ vulcan salute hello. ] Been around for a little bit, just your average geek-without-her-tech. For all you crazy kids I haven't met, hi. For all you crazy kids I have met...hi also.

And yeah okay, everyone's probably going to be rebuilding and surviving and doing that thing we do when we want to not live in houses with holes in the ceiling... [ charlie looks up above her for a moment before sighing and shaking her head. ] But I kind of sort of noticed that a lot of us, when we're not hunting and fishing and generally being great awesome citizens-of-the-month, are bored. Like. Seriously, going kind of insane, bored.

I miss the internet. I know, I know, shock, but a lot of my life was on there for a really long time. I started LARPing a while ago and got really into that, but other than a select few thespian friends I've met, I can't see people really getting into the world of live action RPing. Thus I come to you, my dear, sweet Kore, with another option.

[ at this moment, charlie reaches down to the table in front of her, picking up what looks like a very large piece of paper with a map drawn into it. ]

Table top gaming. [ she says that like it carries a lot of weight, like there should be some applause backtrack going on in her life. if she had her laptop, she could be playing a nice little trumpet sound right about now, but instead? silence. she looks excited enough, so there's always that. ] Figured D&D is probably the most popular, so we could do a version of that. I'm probably gonna be the only DM around here, so depending on who all's interested I could change the game up, but for those of you who don't know- D&D is a table top role play game, or RPG. You make characters, with all these specifics that you peeps are so lucky because I've got that shit memorized, and they go on an adventure.

It's fun, it doesn't involve possibly going out into the dark and life-threatening forest, and it's social. [ ohhhhh, ahhhhhhh. ] We're all stuck here anyway, so might as well make the most of it, right? Right.

Drop your name if you're interested. Gotta gauge how popular this is before I actually get this crap organized. Oh also! If you find any more paper or like...drawing supplies. Collect 'em for me? I might be the master of memorizing kind of useless details, but even I've got a limit here.

And...yeah. Guess that's all I wanted to PSA at everyone. Charlie out.

[ The library is a little worse for wear now. Charles has tried his best to put everything back where it once was but from the feed it's easy to tell that it got hit by the earthquake. Shelves are cracked down the middle and books have been taken out and carefully stacked beside them, a light fixture hangs precariously from the ceiling, and the walls seem to have taken a battering as well. But everything is still standing and Charles is less concerned about the building itself than he is about the people.

He's leaning against one of the chairs when he speaks, expression and voice infused with worry.
] Hello. I'm afraid I should have spoken to you all sooner. Is everyone all right? [ There's dust caked to the collar of his cardigan and he rubs at it absentmindedly. ] Are any of you injured? Have we lost contact with anyone?

[ He's never actually encountered an earthquake before. It was rather startling and he's glad the majority of people here are adults who wouldn't panic. ] If anyone has had their housing destroyed, please get into contact with me. I'm trying to find a place where we can set up a sort of camp. There'll be food and water and if you need, medical attention. I'd appreciate it if you could check in with me.
