Allison's gone. I guess that sucks.

[ It sucks more than Alec will actually admit to another human being. He enjoyed Allison. She was spunky and sweet. She reminded him a lot of Rachel, but she had her own flare. He wished they hadn't taken her. Didn't seem fair. He's kinda hoping she wasn't kidnapped like him either. He really hoped she got to return back to her world. She didn't need to be here and be stuck in this crap. It wasn't fair. She was just a teenager, but Alec wasn't much older than her. A few years maybe.

Sleeping with her was never part of his plan. He kinda just assumed he'd bum around this place, but then her and Anita showed up. Anita was wiggling into another part of him as well. Both of them seemed to find the human aspect of Alec from different angles. ] Completely unrelated, but does anyone wanna trade me some booze? I got some crap lying around you can have at.

[ Yeah, Alec. They completely buy that her disappearance and you wanting to drink aren't related in the slightest. ]

[Jo had been getting the feeling that Allison might have been a kindred spirit, but it's probably for the best that she's not stuck here with the rest of them -- if that's even the case. Jo can only hope that Allison got to go home, rather than being taken.]

[Her mother will kill her for not taking the trade, but what can she say? She's sympathetic.]

She was an alright kid. [ Notice the use of kid and how his face shows zero emotion. Like Alec is gonna let people see him get upset over someone that just up and left. Though technically it wasn't her choice, but she was probably pretty happy to go home. ]

Your mother isn't gonna chase me out with a newspaper is she?

I thought she might have wound up being a friend, eventually.

[They'd seemed to understand each other about some things. Maybe not quite kindred spirits, but they could have been friends. Jo was in need of friends here.

She offers him a wry smile, shaking her head.]

Promise, she won't come after you. You'll be my guest. It's fine.

Probably. You two do like to do things revolving around guns right?

[ Alec doesn't know much about Jo, but what he does know is that she's good people. She's not getting on his ass about having Dean's face either. Things are starting to even out on that front though. No real trouble anymore since he's been making his presence a little more prominent.

He's completely game with going to the bar as long as she keeps her mom from trying to kick his ass. ] Damn I hope that works. She listens to you right? You're not just saying that to make me feel better?

We're both good marksmen, yeah. I think she preferred a bow and arrow, though.

[Though Jo's no slouch in that department, either, to tell the truth.]

Most days, yeah. I don't think she'll have a problem with it. Might even like you more than Dean himself right now.

I can't help you there. I can offer something for the hangover later though.

[There is sympathy behind the words. She knows 'I'm sorry' or any of the other normal ways of showing sympathy aren't going to cut it. Not when he comes on sounding like this.]

I don't get hangovers, but the offer is appreciated, Doc. [ His body doesn't absorb alcohol the same way others do. The benefits of the genetic tampering courtesy of Manticore. ] Believe it or not I've never had to deal with one of those.

Then you are a lucky one. And that’s probably good. I don’t need to be losing all my medicine to hangovers. I’ll be at the clinic if you need me. [She leaves it there. Out of the two doctors here, she suspects she’s more willing to listen to people than Mina is. And while she’s not a counselor, physchologist, or any other shrink type doctor, she can do a little bit if it’s necessary.]

[ Maybe it's because Allison is gone. Maybe it's because Alec doesn't actually know how to process any of this. He doesn't know what direction he's supposed to be headed in. When he lost Rachel he didn't have to deal with this. Manticore wiped him and took away any pain he had felt with that loss. Maybe it's his confusion that takes him to the clinic. Who knows.

He lingers outside for a moment before heading inside. He doesn't announce his presence for a minute. ] You a good doctor? I'm just asking cause I got something that may interest you. [ His blood mainly. It's--helpful in a lot of ways. ]

[Martha looks up from the book she's reading.]

A good doctor? I like to think so. But I think my patients are the only ones who could really tell you that. And so far I've had very few patients here.

I've lots of experience though. Had to help heal all sorts of aliens as well as humans. Often in poor conditions.

[She shrugs and smiles at him.] It's good to see you again Alec. What do you have that's so interesting?

That's probably a good thing. Influx of patients means stuff is going down. I probably shoulda come by after the whole sea monster incident, but I'm better off handling my own injuries. I heal better on my own. [ Plus he didn't want people knowing about his enhancements at that point. Now? It just seems pointless. They don't seem to wanna string him up and kill him.

She's talking about aliens though and that's actually really weird. He really hopes she's not crazy. That would suck. ] My DNA--it's different. Special. Enhanced for a multitude of reasons. I've seen the DNA of my kind held a guy walk again.

Yes, it's preferable that nothing bad happen. But I suspect there's a lot such as you that don't trust doctors. Or are afraid of us. Shame really. I like to think I'm not that scary.

[She smiles as though to prove she's not scary. And then she looks a little confused.]

Your DNA is enhanced? Are you an... [What was the way Charles described it the other day?] evolved human?

[ He lets out a heavy sigh and smiles at the ground for a moment. Processing emotions has never been a strong suit of Alec's. He doesn't know how to navigate them. No one ever taught him how. Either he gets frustrated and just doesn't or he drinks and becomes surly. He's not sure if he should expose these people to that side. ]

Yeah. She probably gets to see her family again and I think that's the most important thing to her.

What kind of crap? Forgive me if I'm not jumping at the chance to swap you a bottle of gin for a deck of playing cards and half a pack of gum.

[Not that he actually has a bottle of gin to trade, and not that he'd be particularly inclined to trade it if he did, but... well, Alec doesn't need to know that.]

[ He doesn't really grate on Alec that much. He's actually welcoming something that isn't assurances that Allison is safe at home. Not that he doesn't appreciate it, but this is an easier thing for him to default to. ] I got stuff. I'm smart enough to know this situation is gonna benefit who has the most useful crap. I aim to make myself that person. Playing cards and half a pack of gum aren't gonna do it.

Which begs the question, what is gonna do it? No offence, champ, but yours isn't exactly the most trustworthy face I ever saw. I'm not so much as telling you what I've got unless I know you've got something to trade that'd be worth it to me.

[ For a moment it's like Rachel all over again. Max asking if he's okay and him trying to figure out if he should actually be a human and let her in. Alec is in the middle of that same issue right now. Instead he just forces a smile and nods at the communicator. ] Yeah. I'm always alright. [ He swallows and lets out a shaky sigh. ] You have yourself a big party or something? [ Anything to shift the subject. ]

[She's all too familiar with what "all right" and "fine" usually mean. But if it's a subject change he wants, she won't fight him.]

I wish. No, it was simply time. We'll all be ridiculously dry soon enough.

Not if she keeps cranking it out like that. Maybe we'll get lucky and those dicks will furnish us a little happy juice. If we're drinking and not looking to get out then that makes their job easier right? They can airdrop in some booze for the surlier guys. [ It's just a thought. Probably a pretty dumb though, but still a thought. ]

[She has to admit that his idea has some merit for their captors. Disconcertingly. What do you do when you want to cripple someone? Flood them with drugs. Drugs and alcohol. That's the classic way, anyhow.]

[Fortescue smiles. Like it'll dissuade them from wanting to escape, anyway. But it would be nice for a little distraction.]

Especially given that our still is broken.

Probably won't listen. Why would they do us any favors? Making this situation better is not something I'm betting they wanna do. Buncha bastards.

[ There is definitely something wrong with Alec. He hasn't tried to look down and catch a glimpse of her boobs this entire conversation. Not to mention how little he has actually tried to hit on her. He's obviously going through something a little hard. ] That lady break it with her crazy cheap ass booze?

The earthquake took it out, actually. [Really, after a certain point, booze is booze. She'll take moonshine over nothing. Which is not something that needs to get back to her evaluator back home.] They don't like us trying to escape, so they should probably be focusing on making us just a bit happier. Or drunker, in this case.

What a bitch. I bet they planned this earthquake to take out our booze. Drinking makes us happy and they'll be damned if we're even remotely happy. [ Bitter party of one? That's pretty much Alec at this moment.

He would not object to them making it so he can drink more freely. Maybe not drunk considering how his body metabolizes alcohol, but having it there is nice. ] You happy here? [ The question is very sudden and very quiet. ]

[It takes her by surprise. She bites her lower lip slightly, thinking over her response.]

There are some things about this place that are much better than home. [She has real company and friends, here, and she isn't being sent off to kill people. That's nice.] But, if I had to choose, I'd have to say no. I'm not.
