Martha's 8th - Video - Day 116 - Open/Private

[Martha looks oddly happy for her. Not as happy as she should, but she's not moping.]

Right. How would everyone feel about a variety show. I'm a storyteller, I know someone who plays music. Anyone else have a talent they would be willing to share?

If there are people willing to do this, is there any chance you'd allow us space in your pub?

Might be a better set up near the diner. You're welcome to come in and tell stories any night you want. Drinks on the house then. When we have some.

Make Sam and Dean show off their knife skills. They aren't as good as Jo, but they're decent enough.

Yes, the diner would make a better stage. Thanks for the advice.

And for the story telling gig. It... I think it might help. To do something other than sit in a clinic that no one visits all day.

You're welcome to come help me any time you want. Don't know much about herbs for healing, but I've got one of the herbals from the library here. Take it out to the field with me most days.

[She used to hate slow times at the Roadhouse, and would invent things for them to do.]

[Martha smiles with interest.]

You are absolutely brilliant Ellen. Mind if I come over now?

[Martha closed up shop with a sign saying to call her for anything. Ellen's was only a short walk away. She called out to the woman as she entered the bar.]

Hello Ellen. How are you today?

[Ellen's behind the bar, reading a book because there's no still to tend right now and yes, that pisses her off.]

Howdy Martha. Not doing too bad. Water? The moonshine's on strict ration, unfortunately.

Water's perfectly fine. Is that the herbalist?

[She indicates the book Ellen's studying.]

[She pours Martha a glass of water over a few pieces of ice.]

One of them. I left like two or three in there. You can eat it, I can brew it into moonshine. Or at least try to.

[She turns it around to show Martha.]

[Martha starts leafing through the book, getting a general idea on how it's set up. She'll be checking out the library later to grab another one.]

Do we have many of these on the island?

The books? I've seen three or four. Feather brigade might know more than the books give us, but doubt they'll be offering their help anytime soon.

[She sips her water.]

You looking for something specific?

I meant the actual plants.

[Martha takes the water finally and sips it.]

We have so little in terms of medicine, it'd be helpful to get other remedies.

I haven't been out as much as I probably should. I think there's a pretty good pile of mint near the stream and raspberry bushes not too far. I've seen the bullrushes, cat o' nine tails, in a couple of places. Not sure about much else.

[She grins.]

Oh, and dandelions.

Ah yes, the ubiquitous dandelion. Did you know it even shows up on other planets?

[Martha smiles. That had been a shock when she first discovered it years ahead and lightyears away from London.]

Maybe I'll start a garden...

Somehow, that doesn't surprise me.

[Ellen frowns.]

Balthazar started one. I think it's for the entire community, but it'd be worth going and poking his wings about it.

He seems rather... less angel-y than the others. Balthazar.

Maybe it's because he laughs sometimes.

Castiel isn't too bad. Lucifer and Michael are the dangerous ones.

[She might be a little biased there.]

Lucifer as in... the Lucifer.

[Yes, she does need to clarify. Angels are one thing. Lucifer is a completely different idea to get used to.]

You come from a strange world Ellen.

All four of the archangels are here. Michael and Lucifer are the new arrivals. Raphael and Gabriel have been here a while.

[She shrugs.]

I ran a bar where people who hunted ghosts, demons, and things that go bump in the night passed through.

The archangels. Are all here.

[Her brain hurts trying to work that one out. Aliens are much easier.]

I guess it is a bit like the pot calling the kettle black. I deal with aliens, you with the monsters in the closet.

[Ellen chuckles at Martha's tone.]

It's a bit much to take, but the short answer is 'yes'.

[She shrugs.]

Not so much in the closet. Though there was that poltergeist once.

[Her tone is ever so dry. She's teasing. Mostly.]

Well isn't that just comforting.

You've dealt with poltergeists as well as demons? You know, in my world, all your bump in the night things are explained by aliens. Creatures that are stuck on our world for one reason or another.

[Another laugh.]

Poltergeists, demons, ghosts, unsettled spirits, zombies, women in white. Ancient gods, all sorts of things.

[She shrugs.]

Might be easier if it were aliens.

What makes you say that?

[It's a curious question. Aliens tend to come back.]

[Sighing, Ellen looks at the symbols around the bar.]

What's dead should stay dead. But in my world, it doesn't. There's always that worry, in the back of your mind that you're going to run across the ghost, the restless spirit of someone you knew, you loved. That you're going to have to find the one piece of them that isn't already salted and burned and then destroy that part too.

[She waves around.]

All of these things are designed to keep things like that. A straight up fight? Would be nice.
