[ there is half a second of what looks like a ceiling, and then a quiet oh crapsticks before it's tilted, very quickly, downwards. ]

Alright, so Cape- Can I call you cape? We're not even on a beach anymore, which totally sucks since I was just getting used to this whole idea of Cape Constant Nightmare. I even made t-shirts.

[ cue exasperated sigh and overly dramatic eye roll. ]

Also, just for the record, when I agreed to go to Oz I did not sign up to come back here. Wherever here ends up...being. [ charlie loses a little steam, here, looking around her in every direction the camera can't see. she's fidgeting a little, mostly because she's in some creepy room all by herself. totally normal. completely normal. one hundred percent- ]

Not that I mind the redecorating - it's got a great Tomb Raider meets first Terminator vibe - but uh. What the frick, guys? Just. What the frick. Anyone want to give me the sparknotes version before I go completely insane? Yes? Maybe? IDK?

Hello beautiful.

[ which maybe is a stretch, and charlie looks a little more than sheepish, but the grin should help make everything less awkward. especially when charlie kind of waves the whole oz thing off as not a big deal. ]

The Wicked Witch kind of came back and tried to wreck some major havoc, but Dorthy and I took care of it. We were headed back to Oz when I showed up here, so you can imagine my surprise. No yellow brick road, no singing munchkins. I feel a little cheated out of the experience.

[Hey, she'll take the compliment, with a chuckle. While she sorts out that Charlie is indeed talking about a real Oz. Huh.]

Well, I'm sorry about that. This place is a trifle less exciting, most of the time. I'd offer to sing instead, but I'd shatter your eardrums.

[No joke.]

Eh, the singing doesn't bother me as much as meeting the Wizard. I wanted to check out Emerald City for myself, you know?

[ but she shrugs anyway, whatever. gotta roll with the punches. ]

How're you holding up, though? With the whole... [ she kind of does this weird motion-y thing around her. something between finger twirls and hand gestures. ] Labs. Thing.

Who knows? Maybe we'll get a wizard at some point.

[Although they have more than a few magical folks around, if that qualifies, Fortescue included. She shrugs lightly at the question.]

People have been at each others' throats lately. Not quite sure why. I feel more irritable than usual, but that's about it. It might be something in the food supply, or the air, because... well, it's not business as usual. [Most of these people can hold their tempers.] It's barmy, whatever it is. I'm mostly just staying in my room to avoid any unnecessary fighting.

Seeing as our Wizards could be anything from Wicked to Wicked awesome, I feel like we might need to start categorizing.

[ mystical powers are cool, yo. charlie kinda wishes she had some.

she looks a little confused, like the idea of everyone being so off. not that it's really all that hard to imagine, considering the setting, but still. ]

How long has it been going on?

A few days. Long enough, if you ask me.

[Hiding is getting old, but Fortescue prefers that to getting in the way of a fight by beings that can utterly trash her. She at least has booze here. That's an improvement over the town. And she doesn't miss fishing, although she does sort of miss the outdoors.]

The only company that doesn't argue is my cat.

Aw, dude, I did not want to come back to a perpetually Wrong Side Of The Bed. [ charlie huffs a little at that before giving herself a chance to think about it. ]

Is it really just something going on here? Or are people like, actually really pissed about the whole maze within a mountain thing?

Well, don't worry. I can't imagine you on the wrong side of a bed. [Is that innocent? ...nope, not even a little.] I would normally put it off to a bit of captivity anger, except that it happened all at once and it seems to have gripped damn near everyone.

[ oh ho ho. charlie smirks a little. ]

I'm good with all sides, actually. Or no sides. Totally flexible.

[ and that was completely intended to be taken sexually hello fortescue she missed you. ]

Think it's the alien food?

Flexible is good.

[She missed you, too, and smirks back.]

It could be the food. Perhaps everyone's getting different doses.

[Because she does feel irritated, on a small level, but it's one she can control. She'd like to think everyone else is usually more controlled than this.]

Oh, it's very good.

[ ;D ]

And what doses are you taking? Cause I might need to check into that line instead of any other one.

What I eat sort of depends on what state the supplies are in, and what looks appetizing. [To be frank — because sometimes, nothing looks too good. But in the end, if required, Fortescue will eat anything. She's been in the field long enough not to be picky. Food is food. Usually.] But you're quite welcome in my line, any time you'd like.

I thought we were more on the 'constantly full cabinets' side of things?

[ unless stiles was lying to her, which was also entirely possible. ]

II'll keep that in mind.

They're full most of the time, unless most of the others eat before you and all you're left with are the... questionable odds and ends.

[Moral of the story here, eat before everyone else.]

You know, I don't like the fact there are more questionable sides of already alien food.

[ fortescue feed her. ]

[Just your luck, Charlie. Fortescue can make a mean sandwich and that's pretty much it.

She chuckles.]

Some of it's all right. It's an adventure. We can call it a game of Is It Good Or Too Weird?

[ you say that like she needs any other kind of food in her life. ]

An adventure that could possibly end with turning into some kind of fish. Or bugs.

[Why are you so perfect, Charlie? She winks.]

What, not in an adventurous mood?

[Don't worry, she's joking. Being a bug would stink.]

I think I preferred the two of us fishing on a pier to actually being fish, yes.

[ talent. and practice. ]

I'm always in an adventurous mood. [ she doesn't need to wink. it's pretty obvious. ] Just not when it involves food.

[ her shoulders sag a little, like this is the first time she's actually realizing that. ]

We can't fish anymore, can we?

Sadly. [Fortescue won't miss getting up early to fish. The monotony of it, just to ensure that no one in the town will starve. But she will miss the scenery and the piece of quiet. And the company.] Seeing as the pool downstairs is empty, and I don't think anyone wants chlorine fish anyway.

Pretty sure chlorine fish is on the same level as blue alien food of nope.

[ god, she's liking this science building place less and less. this sucks. ]

What do you do to pass the time around here, then?

Oh, you know. Exploring. Talking to beautiful women over the phone. The usual.

[She winks.]

[ gasp. that turns into a grin a few moments after. charlie's got a terrible poker face. ]

I don't know about you, but I kind of prefer the in-person tactic. I feel like it helps with general...stuff.

[ nailed it. ]

Stuff? Hmm. [Fortescue pretends to consider this at great length.] Well, I suppose it would. [She smirks.] It's certainly cozier.

Exciting stuff, too. And definitely cozier. I'm all about the cuddling, after all.
