001 | Video | Day 142
[The video feed opens and is fixed on a Darcy that is very much freaking out but trying to pretend like she isn't. Her tone is almost forcefully non-chalant.]
Look, I've said it once and I'll say it again. I am not getting stabbed in the name of science.
[She glances beyond the camera, no doubt taking in the bleak asylum looking surroundings.]
So, uh, whatever the plan is here. Saw or Gothika or Blair Witch... I'm not cool with it. I don't even like horror movies.
[That's a lie. She loves horror movies, but with a bucket of popcorn and the ability to scream at people too dumb to run when they should. Or just plain, GTFO.]
Also, let's get real. I'm not a virgin, but i'm not a total slut, so there's a 50/50 chance I can get out of here alive. Why don't we just skip to the end where I live to tell the tale of the creepy science place. Unless you want me to forget this place even exists. Forgotten.
[She bites her lip.]
Listen, I'll do whatever. Just don't kill me, okay? I've got a lot of living to do. And no one's going to get any points for killing a lowly intern. You should aim higher. Have some standards.

Are... you okay? Is somebody there threatening you?
no subject
That depends. Are you asking because you want to help or because someone's fallen down on the job?
no subject
I... what? It's just a lot of people here seem to be in trouble when they first arrive, and we've got nobody to help us out but each other.
no subject
People? As in multiples?

[That's not exactly safe, is it? Still, that smile is a little reassuring at least. She doesn't look like a total psychopath and most B-level movies have psychopaths that are readily recognizable, at least.
Darcy lets out a small sigh of relief.]
If I'm not in a horror flick, then where the hell am I? What is Cape Kore? Should I be checking for my kidneys or something?
[Wrong genre, Darcy.]
Your kidneys should be fine. The only thing they take off us are electronics.
[Cue the phone being momentarily set down so that Darcy can dig furiously through her bag. Yep, her taser has been removed. Along with her phone and her ipod.]
Shit!
[She picks up the phone again, looking more pissed than scared.]
Well, this sucks balls.

[He lets that sit, head tilted faintly to one side and eyebrows raised just slightly, just enough to account for the verbal omission: but now that you have mentioned it...]
One rather wonders, all the same, why it is that you think anyone would wish to go to the trouble of bringing you all the way here simply to murder you.
[Not the kind of response she was hoping for, guy. And now that you've totally creeped her out, have a small frown.]
Why don't we keep it that way, buddy? Out of mind, out of the realm of possibilities, right?
[She furrows her brow.]
Why else would anyone bring me all the way out here to a deserted looking science center, better known as a creepy ass [Hand quotes.]asylum?
[Not I, says this face, and for once it tells the truth.]
So too the rest of us, who are not bound by such motivations, and to whom you have just broadcast your preoccupations.
Test subject for what?
[And okay, if he's right she probably did just make a fool out of herself, but what conclusions was she supposed to have jumped to?]

[Whoa, whoa. Slow down there. She was going for the opposite.]
I was trying to give them reasons not to kill me.

[ Not if they were really dedicated to this ]
We're in some science lab.

[Sorry, the correction had to be made.]
Like hell I'm going down that hallway with the flickering lights.

[ He pauses to fix the camera angle. He's smiling, but only because he's adjusted to this crappy place. ]
It's more of a group kidnapping. It sucks. Trust me. Worst that's gonna happen is that you'll get bored.
[ video ]
Uh huh. Well, I'm a lot less afraid of boredom than death.
[She nods towards the screen.]
Any ideas on what they want with us?
no subject
[ The ghosts thing was a pain in his ass. The machine was a bitch. This whole place was a bitch. ]
We're basically their lab rats. They push until it hurts.

[ dude, if charlie can at least get some kind of understanding on general pop-culture, she'd be the happiest nerd here.
not that there's much competition between nerd-doms, she'd still be really excited. ]

If I see a puppet, I'm lighting it on fire, just on principle.
[Never mind that she doesn't have a way to actually carry out that threat. She should probably do something about that.]
They took my taser.
video »
[ shhhh, details. charlie knows enough people that can light a fire on their own that it's basically like she can do it. ]
They took my ipad. [ a.k.a. she totally gets you. ] They've got this creepy vendetta against tech, from what I've learned.

Should she be relieved to have another familiar face around or be upset that someone else has been kidnapped and brought here? Now's not the time to figure it out, because she's contacting Darcy before she's sorted everything out in her head. ]
It's not a horror movie, Darcy. [ ...she thinks. ] Everyone's been really helpful so far, don't worry. Where are you?
[ Jane's out the door of the room she'd been nosing around in and charging down the hallway before the last part of Darcy's broadcast finally registers. ]
Wait, you weren't offering me up for a sacrifice, were you?
[ Following the chain of command, she would be right above Darcy. ]
[Darcy has never been so happy in her entire life to hear that voice. She smiles wildly.]
Where are you? Is this what being kidnapped for three hours was like. Tell me this isn't Asgard.
[Her smile stalls and then thins.]
Of course not! I meant some SHIELD lackey. Not you. I just meant on principle, if people are going to kill people, they shouldn't kill interns.
But again. Where are you?
[ Jane approves of any and all suggestions for their captors to torture SHIELD lackeys. ]
Maybe we should start marking the hallways or something...
[ This is said more to herself than to Darcy. She gets a little distracted wondering if someone's drawn a map, but then remembers oh yeah she's doing something important right now. ]
Just leave where you are and start walking. We'll run into each other eventually. I wonder if these things have GPS.
