--Ahh, sssh, shhhh. [ There's a pause. ] There you are. I can hear you. Tap, tap, tap. Howling. Walls don't howl. Unless there's some sort of crack in the wall. Which, not the sort of crack I am thinking of...

[ The Doctor is seen placing his ear up against the wall and listening closely. A few might be able to pick up distant wails or growling. His eyes go up to the ceiling as he taps the wall with his finger every now and then. ]

Not good. Very not good. This is bad. [ He raises his head from the wall and rubs his fingers together. ] Okay. So, think, Doctor, think. Growling noises usually means animals. Angry animals. Animals that do not want to be disturbed. Probably because they are territorial or maybe because their wounded. If I was a betting man, I would say not wounded. Ergo leaving territorial.

[ He spins around, coat tails coming around him. ] Time to say hello to the big bad wolf.

What stops you from doing it here? Other than the fact I'd really like to not kill them. Self-defense, yes, but you can always learn more from something if you don't kill it.

They are different. Something that different should not be alive. It upsets balance of things. Brings bad times if you let 'em live.

[He's no longer talking about hellhounds. Even here, Garrett can't shake the prejudices of his clan and how they've cast out those who are unlike the rest. He's got his own brothers numbered among the outsiders.]

Yes but Kore isn't home, Garrett. You can't bring that sort of judgement to a place you don't understand.

Too late. Already did. [He sighs, running a paw over his ears.] Cannot shake what I have known forever and a day, Doctor. I know what I know.

Yes. I noticed. [ Garrett receives a childish "ooooh" look. ] You know what you know in a place that doesn't operate on what you know. The universe is bigger than your planet, Garrett.

First off, what is a universe? [Sigh. Why must the Doctor always use such big words?] Second off, I am trying. I get put in a place away from everything that I have ever known to be so and am just expected to have an open mind 'bout every little thing that comes along. Doctor, maybe it works well for you, but that is not the way I can be. I can try and do no more than that.

Oh. Well. We don't know too much about the things outside the bubble. Alright! Remember me to give open lessons after we take care of the demon pitbulls. I've always wanted to try teaching.

[ Even though he did give it a go as his tenth self. It wasn't really teaching. Just posing! ] You're doing very well for what it is worth. It'll come to you in time. Not everyone is raised knowing that there is a big lot of--stuff to explore out there. Especially when you're not supposed to explore the stuff.

I do like learning, if you are willing to teach me. But I have been told I make a terrible student.

[Actually, he and his brother Lucas had been told they were the spawn of a heathen god, but he's not going to mention that little tidbit.]

[He winks and taps the end of his hide's muzzle with a finger.]

[Garrett busts out laughing. It feels good to laugh, even with dire circumstances like hellhounds running around.]

Nah. Last one had ink-marked face and good with an axe.

Sooo tattoos eh? With axes? Why axes?

For the same reason I carry around my staff. It was his favorite weapon. Nobody gonna mess with someone carryin' an axe.

[Well, except for Garrett, but he knew even back then that getting into that particular fight was going to end badly.]
