Why did you agree to go with him in the first place?

I didn't. Not at first. He asked me and I turned him down. He terrified me. He killed a giant alien spider and all her babies, and he had a magical blue box that was bigger on the inside and he made it snow. It was too much.

But after that, life just seemed dull. No matter what I did it didn't compare to that feeling I had had with the Doctor that Christmas Eve. I even went to Egypt but it was all tour guides and 'don't drink the water', two weeks later I was back home. It wasn't a thing like being with him.

So I went looking for him. Took me a year. But I found him.

What?! No! No way. Of course not! We're just mates! I mean, look at him! He's a long streak of alien nothing. Strong wind would snap him in two!

I'm not good with people. I can be the life of a party easily enough, but when it comes to one-on-one, I'm afraid I tend to fall a bit short.

I'm putting a lot of effort into it, dear. Because you've been kind. And because you matter so much to him. But it's not easy for me. It's rather like trying to speak another language.

I don't reckon there's a guidebook for it either. Just go with the flow. Not that you have much other choice when you're with the Doctor. It's like a tidal wave that swallows you up and carries you with it.
