Martha's 2nd - Private Video to Mina - Day 97

[Martha comes up looking still haggard. She's not been sleeping well, she's worried about the Doctor and now Ned, but neither of them seem to want her help, and she needs to be doing something. So she'll talk to the resident vampire doctor.]

Hi Mina?

Someone gave me your name as the town doctor. I'm Martha.

I was actually calling to offer my services. I have a medical license and did my fellowship Royal Hope Hospital in London during the year 2008. When the scientists brought me here I was serving as a field medic during the war happening on my world, so I'm used to having little equipment to work with.

[She trails off here realizing she probably sounds too desperate. But Martha really wants to find something to do with herself.]

Indeed, someone does.

[She's silent for a moment, reflecting. Then she remembers she is talking to someone.]

Right. The clinic. Do you mind if I open it back up and let people know I'm a doctor?

[VOICE]

[primogen_vampirate]

I have no objection. But if you're going to run any sort of operation, you can't do it single-handedly. An overworked doctor is no good to anyone.

[VOICE]

Don't I know it. You're more than welcome to join me in this challenge.

[VOICE]

[primogen_vampirate]

You're going to need someone to handle the night shift.

[VOICE]

[notrosesshadow]

Very true. And you are probably the best person for the job.

[VOICE]

[primogen_vampirate]

Mmm. I am.

[VOICE]

[Since she is up and likely to not get much more sleep at this point anyway, Martha's ready to go check the place out.]

Could you tell me where the clinic is? I'd like to see the space. If you want to meet me there you can fill me in on stuff.

[Martha is decidedly not thinking about the vampire stuff at the moment. The woman has not threatened to eat her and has in fact said some very nice things about Martha. She's willing to bet she's probably safe.]

[VOICE]

[primogen_vampirate]

I don't see why not. It's in the pharmacy.

I'll meet you at the diner. You'll recognize it as the building that looks partially collapsed. We can walk over together from there.

I'll see you there shortly.

[Martha makes it to the diner easily. Thanks to Ned that first day, she knows it. Thus the thin, overly tired woman can be found standing with her back to the wall, looking in all directions for the other woman.]

[Mina arrives a few minutes later. She is a handsome woman, with a boyish haircut and sea-storm eyes.

Tonight, she's dressed in a sharp, three piece suit. Pinstriped. She has a purple button-down and tie underneath. On her head is a fedora, tilted to a jaunty angle. There is a ring on each of her fingers and she has an earring in one ear.

On the whole, quite the character.]

Doctor Jones.

[notrosesshadow]

[Martha's head snaps in the direction she heard her name from. She regards the other woman quietly, though it's looks like general paranoia than anything.]

Doctor Barrett.

As odd as it sounds, it is quite good to see you again. I don't encounter many women doctors, where I come from.

[She holds out a hand.]

[Martha holds out a hand to shake Mina's.]

No? Sorry to hear it. There seem to be plenty where I'm from.

[primogen_vampirate]

I think it's more of a matter of when than where.

1932, Chicago. As I understand it, the world has...evolved.

[Martha readily nods at Mina's words.]

I was stuck in 1918 once. They didn't even believe I was smart enough to be anything but a maid. The nurse told me I was being presumptuous. And in the 70s, I was a perfume seller. It was awful.

Stuck in 1918?

And how did that come about?

Met a time traveler.

[She's been pretty cagey about saying anything about her past to anyone, but perhaps it's the fact that Mina told her straight off she was a vampire, Martha felt she owed the woman something.]

Things happened and we were stuck.

Ah, Time Travelers. They do keep things...interesting.

[There's a bit of an edge to her voice. She's had some bad experiences.]

Have you met Kore's resident time traveler yet?

Which one?

[She's met two... and she actually knew them from before.]

Gangly bloke. Calls himself "the Doctor."

[Said with affection, of course.]

He'll make himself known if he hasn't already.

He's the one I traveled with.

[She raises an eyebrow.]

Ah. So. You're another one of the famous companions?
