I don't know what's worse. Coming back here or what I came from.

[ It's not really the kind of thought you want to hear, or echo, but it's what she's wondering. It's what's on her mind, anyway.

It's late. She's been back for a few hours, and after getting back to her house and room she's tried to see (at least externally) what's changed. It doesn't look like a lot but: ]

I don't suppose that anything's changed around here? A mall opening, or a permanent door out? Or even less monsters.

It happens. Probably more so than it should and the chances of it happening here? The lack of adequate defenses, the monsters in the forest and even a general ability to survive using our provisions? It's likely.

Where I'm from the world's in the middle of an Apocalypse. It's in a state about fifteen times worse than this place is and people are surviving just fine, for the most part. It's not ideal here, but it's not so bad, so relax.

Well where I'm from people have a tendency to die more than they should.

So, yeah, I might not have an optimistic view on it.

Then look at it this way - can it really be so much worse than whatever you've got going on back home?

For a mysterious village with food shortages and wacky killer robot bears and the occasional gassing, people die here less often than I personally woulda thought.
