[ The face of one redhead that you might have seen before (but not for a few days). One that looks just a little freaked out (though is that any different to her regular face here?) ]

I don't know what's worse. Coming back here or what I came from.

[ It's not really the kind of thought you want to hear, or echo, but it's what she's wondering. It's what's on her mind, anyway.

It's late. She's been back for a few hours, and after getting back to her house and room she's tried to see (at least externally) what's changed. It doesn't look like a lot but: ]

I don't suppose that anything's changed around here? A mall opening, or a permanent door out? Or even less monsters.

[Jo can appreciate a horrible joke. It's often her way of coping, too. She smiles grimly.]

You're not the first person I've heard of going home and coming back. Pretty damn rude of them, if you ask me. They're toying with us at this point.

Is it worse than taking us at all? [ Possibly, but at least Lydia didn't remember being here while she was gone ] At least I remember being here this time.

Hard to say, I guess. I'd vote for not being kidnapped in the first place, but there's something extra cruel about sending people home only to suddenly yank them back here.

[She sighs a little, though that last part catches her interest.]

You know, people's memories seem to vary when they go home or are taken elsewhere. Did you not remember before?

True. But, obviously, the worst is bound to happen and what you want you don't get. [ At least in a crappy horror situation ]

Nope. Everyone remembered me and I hadn't met them before. Or been here.

Unfortunately, seems like that's how it always goes.

[Oh. That sounds frustrating.]

Guess I missed that the first time we talked -- except I was a pretty new arrival, too. If you'd been here before, I wouldn't have known, anyway. Not sure I'd do so well if people I'd never met insisted they knew me.

Are you okay, now that you're back? As much as you can be while you're here, anyway. No injuries or anything?

It's pretty weird, but they stop mentioning it. [ Or just did for her, her denial was very strong ]

I'm not hurt. [ But not quite fine, either. Finding dead bodies does that to you ]

Glad they dropped it, at least. That would get pretty damn grating.

[Jo catches that. 'Not hurt' doesn't exactly equate to 'doing well' all on its own. She frowns.]

Not hurt, but... what happened? World-hopping or whatever aside, you don't sound so great.

I found a dead body.

[ She found more than a dead body but the rest is a long story and she doesn't really know it herself, or at least understand it ]

Murdered.

Shit.

[Eloquent, as usual. Jo's seen more than her fair share of dead bodies, but she purses her lips all the same.]

Sorry. That's pretty shocking for most people.

[ There's a quick nod ]

Yeah. Pretty shocking. And hopefully the only one I'll see. [ Again. It's not the first time she's been shocked ]

Here's hoping. That's one life experience I feel like most people could do with missing out on.

[Not people in her line of work, of course. Dead bodies all over the place, there, but other people? Yeah. She wouldn't wish that on anyone who didn't choose a career that required it. The first few were disturbing as all hell, she remembers that much. It got easier with time, but it took a long while.]

You need any help settling back in? We've got dinner on over here. Probably wouldn't hurt you to eat.

You know, I think dinner's just what I need. Something normal and right.

Come on over at your leisure, then. It'll be ready before too long.

The Cape doesn't have any firm drinking laws, either, so if you need a little something to take the edge off, I'll see what I can do.

I might definitely have to take you up on that. Tequila cures those images, right? [ Kiiidding. She also promises not to spike the punch again ]

It might not be a miracle cure, but it goes a hell of a long way, that's for sure.

[She smiles grimly.]

Whiskey's my choice for chasing away ghosts like that.

We have something close. It'll do the trick. Beggars can't be choosers, in our situation. We work with what we've got.
