[ The face of one redhead that you might have seen before (but not for a few days). One that looks just a little freaked out (though is that any different to her regular face here?) ]

I don't know what's worse. Coming back here or what I came from.

[ It's not really the kind of thought you want to hear, or echo, but it's what she's wondering. It's what's on her mind, anyway.

It's late. She's been back for a few hours, and after getting back to her house and room she's tried to see (at least externally) what's changed. It doesn't look like a lot but: ]

I don't suppose that anything's changed around here? A mall opening, or a permanent door out? Or even less monsters.

[ Because please, there's enough back home without everything in the woods ]

And what's so different this time?

[ As opposed to the night at Scott's, or even after Peter bit her and somehow got her to resurrect him. Or even when her and Allison wanted his help ]

[ He really should apologise for trying to kill her, but then the whole Peter thing clouds his judgement; he'll work on it, though, if he knows what's good for everyone. ]

You and me? We're trapped here, together, whether we like it or not. And if you know something, anything, about what's happening either here or there, then maybe - [ He falters, hesitating as he tightens his jaw at the begrudging words. ] - we could work together in trying to get out of this mess.

I don't know anything.

[ Nothing that related to here, anyway, and what Lydia knew from home? She knew the past year a lot more clearly, and had filled in her knowledge with other research. But after that? It was just the alpha pack, and a dead body. Something was going on but she didn't know what exactly it was ]

You're talking to the wrong person.

Are you sure about that?

[ Without being there in person to hear the beating of her heart properly, he can't tell whether or not she's lying, or at least holding something back, and being here isn't helping his distrust of all things. Still, he's inclined to believe her even if he doesn't want to for the sake of it.

He opens his mouth, ready to point out that if she is lying then she'll regret it, but he thinks better of it; if he wants to find anything out, he should really reign it in, idle threats or not. ]

Boyd and Erica, do you know what happened to them?

Do you remember what happened the last few months? How I knew nothing.

[ Just to remind you, Derek, just in case she'd been that insignificant the past few months that he didn't know

Although when he asks a specific question? That changes it. That changes Lydia - her answers. Her tone. Erica's dead. She doesn't lead with that, or with the little she knows about Boyd, but the general thing of what happened to them ]

They were captured.

[ The tone to her words isn't as abrasive, just factual. She doesn't feel sympathy for him, and unlikely them either (perhaps the tiniest fraction if anything), but she's also not being rude about it ]

[ He looks as if he means to throw out a retort, but he thinks better of it, because he can't really argue with that. But on the other hand. ]

You were better off in the dark. It's not as if you could do anything, and, trust me, if I'd known what Peter had planned, I would have done whatever it took to prevent it.

[ But suddenly none of that really matters, not as he watches her expression closely, hears the anger fade from her tone to an emotionless one that even he doubts he could take on. It's the fact she isn't rude about it that concerns him the most. ]

The alphas. [ It's a statement not a question, but there is something he wants to ask and doesn't think he can at the same time, so he opts not to. ] And the others?

Was I? [ It didn't seem to Lydia that she was, not when everything was still happening ] I was still involved, things were still happening and it wasn't like I was protected.

[ Not when one Derek Hale and his stupid pack try to poison you. His words regarding Peter don't offer much of a comfort, either, not with everything else on the table ]

They're fine. Minus the people that are dead.

[ Person, for now, but when did it ever stay just one? Derek might not have asked about everyone ever in Beacon Hills, but it was a sort of update ]

[ He'll eventually learn that keep things from people, important things, never really helps anyone. ]

Scott was protecting you. And his pack. [ He won't admit it, but he's thankful for that considering what he planned to do; he might not have to like her, but he doesn't enjoy taking care of problems, especially if they turn out to be innocent. ]

People are dead? [ He really should stop being surprised. ]

Some guy at the pool. We didn't know him.

[ We also being Stiles. It was only the first death, but it was one death. One more on a long list of others. At least Derek couldn't be blamed for this one ]

[ The fact that they didn't know the dead guy doesn't exactly put his mind to rest, but at least it wasn't one of them, from the pack or their group of allies. ]
