[Brigid is looking a bit frazzled. She'd come to the house to find a few things, maybe use the kitchen, and talk to her friend. The problem is, Charlie's scent is fading. There's something wrong. And she isn't sure where her friend is.]

Has anyone seen Charlie McGee?

She isn't at the house and I can't find her anywhere around the town, or in the woods. I've been busy, but she's normally pretty easy to find.

[She bites her lip.]

House ten is empty. If you've seen her, or if she's out there, please contact me?

How many are missing now?

[She's lost track.]

Too many. Several in the last week alone.

[He has an idea of the exact number that's disappeared in the last week, but dwelling on it seems like an inadvisable idea at the moment.]

That's what I thought. I... don't understand it.

[She wonders what's going on. Her innate curiosity is chafing at the lack of answers.]

I don't think any of us do. It's also... unclear as to what happens to those who disappear. That's concerning.

Some go home, I think. But others? It's disturbing. And I worry about friends.

As do I. A friend of mine... disappeared yesterday.

Oh, I'm so sorry. Is there anything I can do?

Nothing specific. Just keep an eye out. It's Charlie Luciano -- I think you've met?

[A pause, and then a little attempt at humor.]

I'll keep an eye out for your Charlie if you keep an eye out for mine.

I talked to him a couple times, yes. Not in a while, though.

[It draws a weak laugh from her.]

I will gladly do so.

[A weak laugh is really all he can hope for from anyone, at the moment.]

Thanks. Good luck -- maybe they'll turn up.

[Optimism isn't his strong suit, but he's making an effort.]

[She wishes she could do more.]

You're welcome. I hope they do.

[She doubts many people are as understanding as Charlie had been about her quirks.]

If they don't, we can hope they're safely back home.

I think that's the one we should pray for.

I don't do much of that, but if any situation called for praying, I guess it'd be this one.

It does. I'll be in the church this evening, if you want to join me?

[There's a pause, as he considers the offer.]

I'll probably be there anyway. Fixing things up.

[That has very little, he knows, to do with religion, or what she'll be there for. Another pause, and then...]

I may join you, although you understand, of course, I'm not remotely Catholic. Or religious.

You don't have to be religious. It's your intent that matters, really. Especially when you're not asking for yourself, but for someone else.

Just as long as you don't expect me to know what I'm doing.

Just talk to God like you'd talk to your best friend. He can tell what's in your heart.

I think our ideas of God might be a little different.

I haven't done that kind of thing since I was a kid.

God is God. however you see Him isn't wrong.

That's a considerably more accepting attitude than I've heard from a lot of people.

[He may, grudgingly, be starting to like her.]

Anyway, maybe I'll see you at the church.

I try to accept everyone... no matter what they do or don't believe.

[It's a philosophy that saves her a lot of grief.]

I'll be there.
