Day 98; Video 004

[Brigid is looking a bit frazzled. She'd come to the house to find a few things, maybe use the kitchen, and talk to her friend. The problem is, Charlie's scent is fading. There's something wrong. And she isn't sure where her friend is.]

Has anyone seen Charlie McGee?

She isn't at the house and I can't find her anywhere around the town, or in the woods. I've been busy, but she's normally pretty easy to find.

[She bites her lip.]

House ten is empty. If you've seen her, or if she's out there, please contact me?

I see.

[Disappointed and only increasingly worried now, his brow furrows and he glances down.]

I know that people go missing around here, for different reasons and to different places... [And he's learning now how awful it is when it happens.] ...I hope she's alright. Perhaps she'll turn up soon, or...maybe she managed to find her way home.

[Brigid nods.]

St. Raphael said she was gone. I hope she found a way home and not into the scientists' hands again. Though neither is a really a good solution.

I'm Brigid.

[He looks back up as she mentions Raphael, growing curious at her referring to him as saint. His focus quickly goes back to the discussion of Charlie, however, and he nods his agreement.]

Home would be far better than being taken by our captors. [And better than being stuck here at all, right?]

It's nice to meet you Brigid, though the circumstances are unfortunate. I'm Samandriel.

[She called Lucifer saint. So, Samandriel is probably getting the same treatment.]

I hope so; she never spoke of it much.

[Her head cocks to the side. She recognizes the suffix and flushes.]

My apologies, St. Samandriel. I didn't know who you were.

Well, she did seem to be a rather private person. ...In my brief experiences with her, at least. But--yes. I hope so, too.

[He blinks in surprise when she applies saint to him as well, but the expression relaxes a little after a moment. He offers a faint smile, voice a touch gentler now.]

It's alright, there's no need to apologize. I... really don't require a title.

I never pressed. She never asked about my home, so it was only fair.

[She likes Charlie. To press would be unfair. She looks down and bites at her lip.]

I... You deserve it. You are part of the Host and one of St. Raphael's brothers. I.. I can't call you anything less.

I understand. [He nods, and though he never pressed either, he's certain that home is the better place for Charlie to be. Hopefully, that's where she went. The other options are just...unfortunate and unpleasant to think about.

There's a quiet pause for just a moment, but Samandriel keeps the gentle expression on his face.]

I won't insist if that's how you feel; you're welcome to call me what you'd like. You...know my brother, then? Do you know the others that are here, as well?

[She's actually one of the true faithful. Brigid believes in God, and the Host, and everything else. Her awe at being able to talk to Real Angels is honest and true. And her respect runs deep.]

I haven't spoken with many. St. Raphael and St. Balthazar. I spoke with St. Lucifer when he was here as well.

[It's kind of nice, to be speaking to someone with faith. He gets a sense of her awe, it's not terribly hard to see, and it makes him smile a little more. Because it's... Well, sweet feels a bit condescending, but it's all he can come up with at the moment.]

...Lucifer? [He vaguely recalls hearing once before that Lucifer was here at a time, but it still manages to throw him. Just a little.] Well, ah-- There aren't many here. ...More than most expect though, I suppose. But--in any case, those two are two of the better ones to know.

[In his opinion, anyway. Not that he doesn't care for his other siblings just as much! Because he does. Some of them are just...nicer to humans than others.]

[She just doesn't want smote.]

Yes. Everyone continues to warn me, but he didn't seem inclined to smite me on the spot.

[She's not defending Lucifer, just saying what she observed.

She smiles and ducks her head.]

I'm honored that any of the Host deems me worthy of speaking to. I hope all of you continue to do so.

You should probably count yourself lucky, in that case.

[He's glad to hear that no smiting went down, though. Or--at least that Brigid didn't get smote. It's unclear at the moment if anyone else did, but perhaps it's something to inquire toward in the future.]

I don't see why we wouldn't. I don't believe we'll ever have reason to not speak to you. [It's supposed to be reassuring, but it comes out a little...awkward. Only a little, though!] The people here are all good, as far as I can tell, and--well, you're no different.

He didn’t seem as awful as some have made him out to be.

[Of course, she doesn’t believe him awful, just given a crap job.]

In my world, I have never met angels. That doesn’t mean they aren’t there, just that they’ve never made themselves known. To know that you are here, and are willing to be among us humans, is… frightening. As well as comforting.

[She blushes at the compliment.]

Thank you, St. Samandriel. I attempt to be.

He's-- [Fumbling a little, uncertain of how to respond to that, exactly, Samandriel frowns a little. Lucifer's just not something he really likes to talk about.] He... doesn't always come across that way, no.

[That's about all he can think of to say about it. Fidgeting a little, his attention is quickly grabbed by Brigid's comments about angels in her world.]

Oh? Perhaps they have made themselves known, but not to everyone-- Even we don't usually present ourselves to humans without reason. You have no reason to be frightened by our presence, though; I understand that it's atypical, but we're not going to do anything harmful.

[He smile reassuringly, even if it's still a little weak in his worry for Charlie.]

There's no need to thank me for simply stating truths.

[She’s actually attentive to what he says. She knows that Lucifer is supposed to be a tempter, she just doesn’t believe him bad.

There is a difference. But hearing him talk about Angels, her eyes brighten and she just wants to believe.] But Angels are the Swords and Soldiers of God. That’s what I’ve always been taught. Awe and respect, with a little fear, seems the proper way to address such august beings

A little fear, perhaps, though it's only compulsory in situations that call for it. Not all the time.

[He's not really one who gets a kick out of being feared. It's something he can understand someone being in the face of angels, but it's also something he wants to assure her isn't entirely necessary. ...For most of them, at least.]

But--if that's how you feel, I won't try to alter your beliefs. [Far be it for him to tell her how she should feel in their presence.]

[She blushes, ducking her head. She's arguing religion with an Angel. She'll be dying in a hole now.]

I just... My Da was a soldier. So, I try to treat all soldiers the way he would have wanted me to. Being an Angel just adds to it.

[He's not so much arguing religion as he is...more trying to assure her that he needn't be feared.]

That's understandable. I apologize, I shouldn't have tried to... to change anything. [He's fumbling just a little here, but shakes his head.] You should treat angels how you feel is appropriate, and yours is a perfectly acceptable manner.

[Angel = feared. They aren’t cuddly cupids, after all.]

No, no don’t apologize, please. It’s nothing to apologize for. I’m… just trying to explain how I think? I’m not very good at it.

Well-- That's alright.

[It's probably just best to end the discussion of the topic, he figures. If anything, it seems to be going in circles, and now that he understands her stance more, and exactly what she meant in saying she fears angels, he understands.

A small smile, and he continues.]

In any case, it was nice meeting you, Brigid.

[Brigid smiles, sheepish and glad to have met yet another of the Host.]
