video/action ❆ day 105
[It's taken Meja a few days to poke at the device on her wrist. She hasn't owned a piece of technology in... well, it's been a while. It's also been hard to concentrate, while becoming accustomed to separation from Yggdrasil. But at the moment, the device is her best bet for getting a question out among everyone in the Cape. So, she flicks a video feed on — once she figures out how to do that.
Meja's sitting in the park. Her closed white cloak covers her leather armor, but the silver and vaguely wolf-head-shaped epaulets on her shoulders are in full view. She runs her free hand through her short hair, anxiously, as she speaks, a gleaming silver armguard around her forearm.]
Hei hei, everyone. If I understand correctly, we all have these devices. I'd like to ask a question, if it wouldn't be too much trouble. Has anyone seen an... unusually large raven about? Muttering to himself, maybe, or going after shiny objects? Perhaps reciting a morbid prophecy or two?
[...if he's stealing from these poor people, she's going to have a few bracing words for him.]
Any information would be useful. Thank you. Tusen takk.

That was my thought, as well, I admit. The gods and the Norn and I have had a... less than harmonious relationship. But... it's not so bad, all of the time. It simply keeps me busy.
[She has good company, most of the time. Not all of it mortal, which is a comfort when you outlive mortals so easily.]
[Jo can appreciate that. She idolized her father for the same thing, thought just about every hunter who walked through those doors back at the roadhouse was some kind of hero until she was old enough to know better. Even then? Some of them still were, and she admired them.]
That's a pretty good gig if you're cut out for it, if you ask me.
It's rewarding in its own way.
[She shrugs, a bit awkwardly.]
Never a dull moment, to be certain.
[Maybe it's not exactly the same, since Jo is far from a Valkyrie, but going out there and doing what you can to protect people? Save lives? That, she understands.]
It's not a life most people would be brave enough to choose, but some people are just drawn to it, don't you think? Playing protector?
Ja. It does take a special kind of... mentality, and person, to take up that sort of mantle. [Or sometimes they get unwittingly trained for it, and thrust into the action because not to participate is worse.] Not everyone is well-suited toward such a life. Not even those who might choose it.
My dad did it. Went out into the world and did whatever he could to help people. Took out monsters, ghosts. You name it.
[No reason to keep those things secret here.]
Always thought he was a hero. Wanted to be just like him.
[She almost hesitates to admit it - but it was a long time ago, and it's since stopped being painful.]
I'm certain he would be proud of you.
[She smiles warmly. Even though they've only just met, it's always nice to hear -- particularly from someone who seems to be in more or less the same boat.]
I'm sure yours would be real proud of you, too. Carrying on his legacy like that. It's not easy. Takes a lot of courage.
Meja nods.]
I've always found it worth any trouble, in the end.
[She's able to say that with confidence, at least. They may not be from the same place, but they clearly have this much in common.]
I shouldn't keep you, but... we should talk again sometime. If you like, you can come by the bar. My mom and I look after it.
All right. I look forward to it.
