I know that this sounds odd. [ And isn't really a question that people generally ask. Also what isn't odd, around here? It's her justification ] But with what's been happening I'd like to know.

[ There's a pause. It's a touchy subject, obviously, and she's not even sure where the conversations might go ]

I want to know about your experience with death. [ She's going to try and go slow on this. As slow as Lydia Martin wanting to know something can. But things are pretty messed up. She feels pretty messed up. And she'll even tell her reasons for asking if she's asked ]

Not just if you know someone has died but... if you've seen it. [ A two second pause ] Or nearly died.

It's happened here, and could have happened a lot more. [ If Dirk hadn't put out that useful message. People were still taken but at least they were warned ]

But- Can people come back? [ It might sound crazy, but it's happened before. It happened to Jackson - twice, although that was a supernatural thing. But it leaves the possibility, right? ]

Better than them being dead? Yeah. But is that still good here?

I would think that alive is always preferable to being dead, or at least under the majority of circumstances. To exist should be considered better than non-existence.

That's what you'd hope, anyway. [ She doesn't want to think about something that would mean it wouldn't be better ]

I am twenty decades old. There is no upper limit on my lifespan. Parts of me may need to be replaced or repaired, but barring irreparable damage or positronic failure, I could in theory live for a very good deal longer. I have no desire to cease functioning, until I have satisfied myself that my self-appointed tasks are complete. Though if I did not function I would not be aware of my failure, I nevertheless do not wish it and would choose to save myself if possible.

[This is unusually philosophical for him, and yet at the same time, deeply logical.]

Do you refer to a belief in an afterlife?

I'd ask if this was one but I didn't die. [ No one tell her she's dead. Although if what Stiles says is right then she's not dead. Yet ]
