01 | Video/Action | Day 108
[It's been a week since Anita's arrival in the Cape, and all that time, she's managed to monitor the network without actually making herself known, taking the opportunity the blackout and the defunct network had provided her to move around town unnoticed and get the lay of the land. By now, she's more or less settled -- she has housemates she gets along with reasonably well, one of them a stray Allison brought home after no less than two days after their arrival. She has a potential ally in a man she's still not entirely convinced isn't a yeti, and a woman who practically reeks of magic but without that undertone of malice.
All things considered, there's something of a silver lining to this new situation, though she certainly has plenty of choice words for their captors if she ever gets the chance. She's determined to make that opportunity arise sooner or later.
When she addresses the feed, she's sitting on the front steps of House 10, arms resting on her knees.]
I haven't been here long, but I think I've got most of the details by now. [People had been helpful, for the most part.] The food supply is low and it sounds like people are doing whatever they can to help supplement it. I hear people hunt. I'd like to get in on that, but it would help to know what's available to us in the way of weapons.
[She has her knives, and her guns with their limited ammo, but she's never been much of a trapper despite being vaguely outdoorsy. She'd done a lot of field work during college that had required her to spend time out in the woods and knew well enough how to forage, but hunting anything that wasn't, you know, monstrous was entirely new. Animals couldn't be all that different, could they? Just... smaller. Potentially less vicious.
Right.]
Do we have the resources to replace or even forge spent ammunition, for instance? Or do we get to play pioneer and do it the authentic way?
[You know. Bows and arrows. That kind of thing.]
Any kind of feedback would be appreciated. If I'm going to be stuck here, might as well pitch in and do what I can to help.
[The feed ends. She'll be sitting outside of House 10 for awhile if anyone comes by or wants to pester her, and later in the day, she can be found at the docks, doing a little investigating.]

christine said i could and it was funny. he'll leave soon.
He crouches behind Anita and sticks the opened can in her face. ] Smell this and tell me if it's completely gone. I'm not itching to throw up tonight. [ His stomach could probably handle it, but not without consequences. He finally looks at her communicator and sees Dean's familiar face. ] Ugh. Don't tell me you're taking advice from super douche who keeps accusing me of stealing his face. He's a fucking baby, Anita.
no subject
Are you serious right now? [Alec, you are kind of a baby.] I'm gathering info. And no, don't eat those. You'll die and then it'll be just me and Allison and I won't have anyone to do the heavy lifting.
[She manages a smirk before reaching out and putting her hand over his face, fingers splayed, playfully pretending to push him away before turning her attention back to her communicator.]
Sorry about that. Same job, though? No kidding. To tell the truth, a few years ago, my circumstances were probably a lot more like yours. Working under the radar. It wasn't until vamps were made legal citizens that they starting requiring licenses to hunt. Can't lay a hand on a vamp without a warrant now.
[In some ways, it might be better, but mostly she thinks its worse.]
GROSS and not just the beans
I don't just do vampires, but yeah. They're legal where you're from? [ That sounds horribly... horrible and really not very likely at all, probably pretty dangerous for him, but then he also knows that not all vampires are bad, either. And then, like... Meg...
Ugh, whatever. ]
You put up with that guy?
ffffff Jesse just jump in again whenever you want, I'ma keep going
[And, you know, if you have a soul. She's met plenty of werewolves who are nasty and she was more than happy to put them down, but most of them were just people trying to live their lives, people who had survived some kind of an attack or, if they were really unlucky, got a bad batch of lycanthropy vaccine and wound up turning anyway. Poor bastards.
Her policy is still 'better dead than furry,' but she feels for them.]
Eh. I kind of like having him around.
[She smirks, casting another glance at Alec over her shoulder.]
He's good for manual labor.
[Also he sleeps wearing very little and she appreciates watching him sleepily stagger out of his room in the morning, but she's not telling.]

[ Which brings us to a convenient revelation for why Dean might be uncomfortable with Alec's general existence. One reason, anyway. There are a bunch, but that's still a sore spot. ]
My brother and I worked a lot of ghost cases, some small pagan gods. Mostly these days it's been demons.
he's only making minor appearances to fuck with dean
He's back again, Anita. Sticking his big face in front of the screen so he can confront Dean once more. ] Put up with me? You're the one that cries to everybody about how I took your face. If anything she puts up with you, man.
Also I'm not the shifter, dude. I'm a person. I got a life. Stop being a dick. [ And he's gone again because he's a child and wants to stomp back into the house to find food. ]
Alec :(
I don't think he meant you, Alec.
[Sounded like a past incident to her.]
Obviously you guys have some tension to work out.
[And then Alec is gone and she heaves a sigh, looking back to the communicator. She'll go talk to him in a few, see if she can help him get his panties out of that bunch they're in.]
Ghosts aren't too much of a problem where I'm from, but we get 'em. Usually if you ignore them, they lose a lot of their ability to do anything really tangible. They can still cause problems, though. Ghouls are worse. [She pauses.] Demons, huh?
I don't envy you. Only ever seen one. I'll be happy if I never see one again. That thing was like looking straight into -- I don't even know what. Hell, I guess. Horrifying.
awww :(
He makes a face. ]
He could stop being a dick first... [ It's mumbled under his breath.
Sounds like the laws aren't the only things that are different between their worlds. ]
Ghosts can hang around for a long time, building up that vengeful spirit. [ Clearly her demons are different than his. He stares for a moment, and then snorts softly. ]
I'm going to guess the rules for demons are different too. The first few times I looked into one's eyes... I got that feeling. Ours just look like people though. They possess human bodies, living or dead, and ride 'em around.

He may not have the easiest personality to get along with, but he's a good guy. Promise. Maybe you two just need to hug it out and start fresh, huh?
[Come on, guys. Could be good for you.
She grimaces when he expands on demons. Sounds all too familiar.]
They possess people where I'm from, too, but -- not always. Sometimes they wander around on their own, or so I'm told. I've never been unlucky enough to see one without a people-suit. Any other monster, I can handle, but they're a real force to be reckoned with. Stopped someone from summoning one once, that was a lucky break. Would have been a whole lot messier if I'd been five minutes later.
no subject
That sounds scary, but easy to spot, anyway. [ He clears his throat. ] Fair warning that a lot of the stuff we might hunt back home... could be here. I mean, I warned you already, but just uh... Go easy on the trigger finger.
[ Thinking about Meg. Again. She and Cas better be thankful for this. ]

[Because even by rough description, they are seriously harrowing. Their deeds performed while in human bodies are bad enough. Of course, there are a million other monsters to be dealt with, so the rarity of demons isn't really all that comforting.]
Sounds like they'd be pretty damn hard to miss.
[She pauses, raising an eyebrow. Huh. Protecting someone? She shrugs fluidly, shaking her head.]
If they're not hurting anyone, then they've got nothing to worry about. [She knows plenty of werewolves or leopards who are good people in crappy circumstances, and as much as she hates to admit it, some vampires that have grown on her, too.] If they're attacking or preying on the people stuck here? I can't make any promises. But if they play nice, so will I.
I don't hunt things because of what they are. [Not anymore.] I hunt things because of what they do. There's a difference.

Seems fair. It's good to meet another hunter. For a while it felt like I was the only one around here. [ He's been an endangered species before, emphasis on endangered; he likes having company. ]
It's nice to add you to the ranks.

[And one who doesn't seem to be a complete sociopath, although she's sure that could change. Edward, after all, was incredible at playing the role of the friendly, smiling good ol' boy, but as soon as he had a weapon in his hands, his eyes went empty and that smile of his dropped dead. She'd known him for ears and she was pretty sure it's never going to stop being creepy.]
Are there others like us here? Folks who have experience with all those creepy-crawlies?
no subject
And then there's just people that... I mean there's some alien person. A couple of 'em.
no subject
[Eh. She knows about all kinds of monsters, knows about demons and believes in God and angels. Aliens aren't that big a stretch. She can roll with it.]
I know Allison, though. We're roommates. Arrived together, got assigned together. Worked out pretty well.

There was a guy who turned into a big monster when he was pissed, but he's gone now. Kinda figured there'd be more infighting but things have been okay for the most part.
no subject
Someone her age shouldn't have to have their act together like that, but she does. [For Anita, she'd at least gotten to wait until college for anything more than raising zombies.] But I guess sometimes life makes those choices for us.
Guess there's something to be said for a bunch of people being stuck in the same place. We can't really afford to make enemies of each other, right?
no subject
Ha. Not making enemies. Right. ]
Yeah, that's the idea. Helps if you don't come in with some enemies pre-loaded. [ And his face tells her that he totally has. ] It's mostly been petty shit, and lately everyone's been playing nice in their own corners. Nothing really major.
no subject
[Yep. She reads that face loud and clear, Dean.]
I'm hoping nobody from home ends up following me here for that reason. Most of them are enemies. The few I'd call friends? Don't want 'em stuck here, and hell, even some of them could cause their fair share of trouble. It's probably cliche to say it, but if anyone from home turned up -- this town wouldn't be big enough for the both of us. I don't envy you for being part of a collected set.
no subject
I know how that goes. I'll keep my fingers crossed for you. Funny how sometimes hunters can be as big of a problem as the things they're supposed to hunt.
no subject
[She can definitely, definitely relate to having a lot of enemies. A lot. A lot.]
Thanks. No kidding, though. I mean, guess everyone gets into the business for different reasons. Everyone has different values. That makes some more dangerous than others, and it's not always the ones you'd think.

For now, take care, hotshot.
