[ The library is a little worse for wear now. Charles has tried his best to put everything back where it once was but from the feed it's easy to tell that it got hit by the earthquake. Shelves are cracked down the middle and books have been taken out and carefully stacked beside them, a light fixture hangs precariously from the ceiling, and the walls seem to have taken a battering as well. But everything is still standing and Charles is less concerned about the building itself than he is about the people.

He's leaning against one of the chairs when he speaks, expression and voice infused with worry. ] Hello. I'm afraid I should have spoken to you all sooner. Is everyone all right? [ There's dust caked to the collar of his cardigan and he rubs at it absentmindedly. ] Are any of you injured? Have we lost contact with anyone?

[ He's never actually encountered an earthquake before. It was rather startling and he's glad the majority of people here are adults who wouldn't panic. ] If anyone has had their housing destroyed, please get into contact with me. I'm trying to find a place where we can set up a sort of camp. There'll be food and water and if you need, medical attention. I'd appreciate it if you could check in with me. Let me know if you can't find your friends.

[ He's a little frustrated with his lack of quick response but what can you do? Charles holds back his sigh and very gravely regards the device before he ends. ] Thank you.

So we haven't had too bad of a time in regards to building structure and damage then? I'm glad. I'd hate to have to wield a hammer.

Nothing extremely serious in shared spaces that I've seen, thankfully, although my own house didn't fare so well.

[He's... not thrilled. To put it mildly.]

How are you and Charlie?

[ Because he's more interested in how the people are doing. ]

We're doing just fine, although we're missing a wall. How are you and Erik?

Yes, both still alive. Though I think Erik's bloodpressure is about to kill him.

[ Such an angry man. ]

[He chuckles quietly.]

Charlie's, too. He's furious about all of this.

[ He smiles. ]

I wish I could do something, anything at all to help everyone here safe and sane.

How... altruistic of you. It's surprising, how many people echo that sentiment.

[ A nicer version of Stockholm Syndrome, perhaps ! ] I think everyone feels the same. We have to band together or we might as well go mad.

I'm not sure everyone feels that way.

There're undoubtedly still people who are entirely out for themselves.

You know, I wish that weren't the case but I can no longer guarantee that.

Mm. Someone from my world has arrived. They aren't the nicest of people.

I see. I admit, that's been a... concern of mine. There are certain people whose presence here would be less than beneficial.

[He won't ask who it is, but he also won't protest if Charles wants to tell him.]

[ He offers Charlie a small smile. He wants to warn people about Emma. But so far she's done nothing but threaten. No real moves. He wonders if she will make one. ]

It would be niave to think everyone who shows up here would be inherently good.

The majority of people are anything but inherently good.

Ah, I'd have to disagree. [ But his smile obviously suggests he knows how naive that is. ]

You must have had very good luck with the people you've met in the past, then.

Probably. [ Charles might have blinkers on. It's clear that being what he is means he can see the very heart of people. Perhaps he has to focus on the good just to survive. ]

In any case, I'm glad to hear that everyone's relatively all right after the earthquake. Now, I guess, we begin the tedious processing of rebuilding anything that was destroyed.

I had hoped to bother anyone who could build into helping me make a community center, but they're all going to be abused, the poor people.

That's a good idea, once people fix their walls and ceilings.

If we want to encourage learning in this place then we need somewhere people can go. I'd hope to help that out with a shared building.

And, at the very least, it'd be a project people could focus on. Might help morale.
