Martha's 9th - Day 123 - Video - Open

[Martha had found the infirmary with only a little searching. She was dismayed to find it in the condition it was. But now that it was found, she had to let others know.

When the video comes up, she looks exhausted both from the recent activity and the consistent lack of sleep.]

I guess it's only to be expected that once I got the clinic the way I like it, the scientists would destroy it and force me to set up another one. I've found the infirmary and am working on doing what needs to be done. If you need anything, stop on by. I still have some supplies from the other place.

As for the Variety Show, it seems like we should postpone it until we all learn more about our living spaces.

[Martha pauses, and it's very clear she's not sure if she should bring up what she's about to say. When she finally does speak, it's not nearly as confident as before.]

If you have any remedies for nightmares that don't involve taking away memories... please let me know.

[The feed goes dark after that.]

These are inconvenient.

[ Some do, some don't, and some better than others. Raphael...gets it occasionally. ]

That is useful, at least.

Doing the latter doesn't mean you have to do the former. And the herb I'm thinking of wouldn't cause an increase in vulnerability, unless someone targeted you with it.

The phones? They're a bit ahead of my time, but I'm guessing by maybe a year.

So this herb. If I took it myself, it wouldn't cause any issues unless someone else gave it to me?

I've never used a phone.

Even if someone gave it to you, it wouldn't. They would need to take your DNA - say from a bottle you drank from or hair from a brush, mix it with their herb tea and drink it.

Never ever? Well, I suppose it makes sense. You probably have all sorts of angel speak that we don't understand up in heaven. The angels in our world did too, though I don't know how the Doctor knew that.

[She'll go easy on him regarding the phone then.]

So don't accept drinks from people unless I know and trust them... Because I'm not going to go about collecting every hair I shed.

Granted, unless we find an herb garden here, this entire conversation is moot.

Correct. Dreamroot has a distinct smell as well, so it's unlikely someone could hide brewing it.

[Martha chuckles.] Brilliant.

[The worst part is, she has no choice. Hallucinations haven't started yet, but she knows they'll be coming soon. After a moment of silence, Martha inhales deeply.]

It seems I have no choice. Is it possible fore me to get two doses then? One for me and one for a patient.

I'm not a demon Martha. And frankly, there is little I can ask you for that I cannot provide for myself.

[ He's just a little insulted that it's assumed there is a catch. ]

Does it matter what you are? People use others for their own advantage. More so in situations like this. I've learned enough to not be naive this time around.

I can't break patient/doctor confidentiality. Suffice it to say, someone else answered my call about nightmares asking me to let them know if I found a cure. They sounded very upset and scared. I'd like to help.

I said I had to teach you how to use it. It's not as simple as 'see one, do one, teach one' doctor, it takes time. If you are giving it to someone else, and I am the one giving you the medication, then I do need to know.

[Whatever answer Martha's about to give is interrupted by the fact that suddenly, instead of her face, the video suddenly shows the phone spinning before landing with a crack on the floor. Off screen Raphael can hear Martha swear though all he's looking at is the ceiling. Her hand reaches down and picks up the phone, training the camera back on herself. Any anger that was there is gone. Now she just looks frightened.]

Whatever is necessary to make me better. I'll do it. I'm in the clinic.

[She shuts off the feed and sits on one of the tables to wait.]

[ Well. That was startling. And curiosity gets the better of him so he goes instantly, landing with a sound of wingbeats echoing through the clinic. ]

What happened?

[However bad she looked in the video, in person Martha looked far worse. The woman who had made it through the tunnels smiling and acting like it was an adventure had been covering up the very real fear of the so recent memories she had been dragged back to. The lack of sleep that had been dogging her was very apparent as was the fact that she was surrounded by fear. A fear that she tried to keep locked away, and usually pretty successfully, but a fear that was forcing itself to the surface with each sleepless night.]

[She started when he entered an instant after she'd hung up. Martha hadn't even had a chance to set the phone down. She looked down at her hands.]

I lost control of my extremities. I dropped the phone.

[ She does look terrible. Funny that Raphael, The Healer, was so terrible at looking after himself and those called to his profession seemed to share that trait. ]

How long have you been awake?

I don't remember... Days... Longer than any human should.

Martha...

[ It's admonishing, certainly, but also concerned. ]

I can put you to sleep, for a few hours, monitor your dreams so that you can rest.

I know... I know it's bad. I just... they're so vivid. It's like I'm reliving it all. The destruction... the genocide... Japan burnt to the ground...

I don't know that you can keep them at bay.

Most of us first learn to communicate with humans via dreams actually. So we're quite gifted. I can't promise you won't know it's a dream, but dream walking is easy.

[She hesitates.]

Last person to do anything with my brain helped create this mess...

I'm not going to force you to accept it. It's an offer, nothing more.
