[ Guess who's back from the dead? That's right, everybody's favourite resident demon! Of course, she's lacking a little of her usual sass and sparkle - apparently being thrown to the wolves - quite literally (if by wolves we mean hellhounds) - has that effect on a person. ]

Hello Cape Kore. Did you miss me? [ There's a smirk, but it's strained. ]

Did you get the stray puppy population under control while I was on my unscheduled vacation or you all still waiting for the dog warden to show up?

What fun would this place be without a drinking buddy or two? It'd definitely suck. Even if I'm not exactly a team player.

It has its perks, being a team player. I used to be solo — not by choice, but by necessity. Given the choice, I prefer having someone, or many someones, to fall back on. Same's true here. Makes the more odd things a bit easier to bear.

That's pretty true, I gotta say. Looking out for number one is good, but having an ally - a friend - that's something else. Something better.

Trusting someone is the hard part. [She smiles at Meg.] Is it the same for you? Trusting that they won't just drop you at the first sign of danger, if you become an inconvenience. That was the tricky part, when I first started working as a team.

Oh yeah, trusting someone is kind of a biggie. People tend to destroy demons rather than play nice, y'know? Looking after yourself just becomes second nature.

[Fortescue reaches over and strokes her fingers through Meg's hair, once.]

That's a shame. I know something of what you mean... my magic isn't exactly wanted, back home. Taboo, if you will. The second people figure out what I am, they usually just keep a wary eye on me at all times.

[Which is ridiculous, in her mind. Though considering she was at the beck and call of an Empire two months ago, perhaps not too ridiculous.]

[ Yes. Good. More of the hair petting is good. Meg could get used to it. ]

We should form a club of the unwanted.

Wouldn't that be a terribly depressing club?

[She chuckles, playing with an end of the demon's hair before having another sip of wine. There's a wavering sort of movement to her hand, now.]

[ Somebody's drunk! It's okay Fort, Meg'll make sure you don't choke on your own vomit! That's what friends are for! ]

We could make it fun.

[Luckily for all involved, Fort is masterful at holding her liquor. She's put in plenty of practice.]

I think you could make anything fun.

[Wait, is that what she'd meant to say? ...oh, well.]

[ Yes! Yes that is exactly what Fortescue meant to say, right? Flirting is a totally acceptable post-drinking thing. Flirt more! ]

Anything? We should put that to the test some time.

[Fortescue reaches the bottom of her glass with another sip, and chuckles. Flirting is always in season.]

We should. This place needs all the fun it can get. It's a shame we don't have the telenet — internet.

[ Yes. Good. Flirting is good! Meg approves. ]

The internet? Why? Wanting to download free porn and stream crap movies?

Why else? [She chortles.] There's also more things to read than can be found in the library. I think I'm almost through every book that interests me. Soon I'll be into what doesn't.

You might discover a new hobby, or you can mock the books - that's always fun. Definitely helps to pass the time.

Are you a big reader, then? Even as an immortal, I'm sure it would take a long time to go through every book printed. Even in one language.

I've done a fair amount of reading since I came here. Before I was mostly into gossip magazines. Had to broaden my horizons here - the magazine selection is severely lacking.

It makes up for it in cheesy romance novels though.

[Fortescue chuckles.]

Is there a decent selection of those? I can't say I've read too many. The gossip magazines might be more illuminating, around here.

There's a fair selection. Like most things around here though, they're better with alcohol.

[ And preferably a hottie to read with and have awesome sex with after. ]

I can only imagine. I've only read one or two, when there was nothing else to do. [Literally nothing. Fortescue keeps up reasonably with fashion back home, but you can do that from the telenet. No magazines required.] Are they all from Earth? Or some variation thereof?

That, my lovely, is a a good question - to which I do not know the answer. Next time I'm in the library, I'll be sure to look into it.

[Fortescue grins. It's rather lop-sided from the amount of booze in her.]

Do... I'd be curious about the answer. Not that it probably means much, but more information is always good.

Oh, a million things, darling. Truly. I have too much curiosity. Like that terrible nonsense about cats and death.

Curiosity isn't as bad as they make out. A little curiosity is a healthy thing. And it hasn't gotten me killed - yet.
