[Action] Arrival post

Thanks, Dan. [He grins.] I won't let you get hurt, either, okay? We'll have each other's backs and Lydia's, too.

[He holds up a fist. Do robots fist-bump?]

Your concern is pleasant, Kobra, and I thank you, but I am only a robot.

[He's obviously expected to return some sort of gesture, but he isn't at all sure what it might be, and he hesitates briefly, looking at Kobra's fist before also lifting his own fisted hand, but he just holds it there, not sure what the significance of any of it is.]

Uh, you're a totally awesome robot from the future. There's no only about that.

[He grins and taps Daneel's fist lightly with his own.]

Besides, if you have my back, I have yours. That's the rule.

[Oh. That's how it's supposed to work. He'll remember this fistbumping thing, anyway, though the social significance of it escapes him for the moment. For now, he's feeling particularly pleased with the way things are going. He's always assumed the human attitude towards robots was to a certain extent inherent: superiority, or dislike, or distrust, and he's seen it on multiple worlds in multiple societies, to differing degrees. Maybe it's more cultural than he thought, and that's an interesting piece of information.]

I'll remember this rule then, Kobra. Miss Martin and yourself have been very kind to me already.

Well, how else would we treat you? [Daneel's been just as nice, if not nicer. He deserves to be treated well and if anyone disagrees, Kobra will fix that.]

Lyd's cool. A little high-strung, but I like her. [He smiles.]

[Daneel's not really capable of badmouthing either Dr. Fastolfe or Lady Gladia. There had always been no doubt of the nature of their relationship with him - namely, that he served them. They had not been friends. Partner Elijah had been a definite friend. Kobra is trying to be that now.]

Forgive me, Kobra. It's not expected that robots will have 'friends'. Our fuction is to serve, to perform the tasks given to us. I've had one human friend, and I treasure Partner Elijah's memory, but I admit he took some time to feel comfortable with the idea of calling me his friend.

[Kobra nods. He gets that. He hadn't been exactly treated so great where he comes from, either and a lot of people in the City don't know any better about questioning stuff. Dan only knows what he was taught, right?]

Okay, well you're the only robot I know and my mom raised me to treat people the way I'd want to be treated and to be extra nice to anyone who's nice to me, which you totally are. Also robots are totally awesome, if you don't mind me saying so.

That's not an opinion I'm used to hearing. Does that have something to do with your invitation that I stay here?

Me liking you or you being a robot? Because I invited you because I like you. The fact that you're a robot is just cool.

[Daneel smiles, just a little, his head tilted to one side.]

I meant the attitude that somehow being a robot makes me "awesome," as you put it.

[There is one other thing that's bothering him, though, because he isn't sure, and it seems unlikely to him.]

Kobra. Do you intend that I take this room for my own? Because that is't strictly necessary.

Robots are cool, but you're cool on your own, too, Dan.

[He smiles back.]

And, yeah, I get that you don't sleep, but we have the space, so why shouldn't you have a place you can be alone or keep stuff like the rest of us?

[It isn't necessary, not in the least, but he's never had a room to himself, for his own purposes. Maybe it's only a storage attic, but it's... his. It's somewhere to be when he has no other duties to accomplish.]

You and Miss Martin may feel free to come and go as you please.

Okay, but I'm still going to knock first. It's been a while since I've had this kind of space, but I remember it was really annoying when our mom would just barge in.

[He bumps Daneel's shoulder with his.]

I'm going to see what's in the kitchen. I'm starving

Of course. I plan on investigating the contents of some of the boxes, if you don't need assistance?
