[Action] Arrival post

[Threads in this post take place at (or at least start at) the center of town around the fountain. If you would like to address the network or have your character wake up somewhere else, feel free to make your own post in the appropriate community.

In this post, please feel free to have characters jump around. If your character moves threads and it's relatively continuous, please link the earlier thread to the later one and try to follow a tag order/try not to cram too many people into one thread. [Veronica follows, unwilling to leave Bruce to face the crazies alone. She watches the old guy, stone-faced and wary. It wasn't that she liked Bruce or felt protective of him, but... she was. He had a sense of humor about all this, and Veronica needed that.]

[She keeps half an eye on Bruce, one hand gripping the strap of her bag tightly. It won't be much of a weapon in a fight, but it'll be better than nothing.]

Hi. I'm Veronica. I'm new around here. This is where you join the Jackie Chan fan club, right? Not the brain-eating contest...

[What? Bruce had implied he was a zombie first. Though Veronica was sure it was a joke. Mostly sure.]

[Bruce wishes it were a joke.]

Yeah, I remember you. [He says it ominously by means of trying to find some way to clue Phil in on the fact that something's wrong here because how else do you start to ask someone if they're dead?

He gets down to one knee and leans over to check Clint's vitals; he has a steady pulse and even breathing, and when he checks his eyes quickly, Bruce doesn't think he sees signs of a concussion. He'll have to do something more thorough once he wakes up, but he mainly looks down for the count right now.]

He seems fine; I'll look at him once he wakes up. What about you? Feeling okay? Any internal bleeding I should be worried about?

Nah, I just bruised myself pulling him off of Agent Romanoff, who, by the way, just slapped me for dying, so you don't have to skirt around that issue. Earlier, she didn't recognize me and shot at my feet, so... watch out for that. The slap was normal, but the shooting at my feet wasn't.

[He smiles a little tightly.]

Hi, Veronica. My name's Phil. Sorry that you're having to deal with... all of this.

[He crouches to look at Clint.]

I'll find a bed for him to sleep this off in. She said he should be out of Loki's control when he wakes up. I don't remember anything after I grabbed that prototype. I was getting ready to go after Loki and then I was here.

[Veronica just stares between them, her eyes going from one to the other and jaw slack. So the guy really had maybe possibly died and wasn't joking? And apparently, they're the sort of friends who shoot at each other's feet. On second thought, Veronica can understand that part.]

Hi, Phil. I'm sorry you're having to deal with Norse gods. That's gotta be more brutal than your typical Monday.

[There's a wryness to her tone, because seriously, Loki? Who would go by that name? Why would someone name their kid after some irrelevant Norse god with issues?]

[Something else Phil says sinks in, and she frowns. Control? It hadn't just been an escalated argument, but they thought the guy was under someone's control? Great.]

So.... Sorry if this simple blonde needs more explanation, but what? You thought the guy was hypnotized like a chicken or something so you beat the ganged up on him and beat the crap out of him? [She looks at Bruce, tempted to drag him away from the crazy and evidently violent guy before the two of them can get assaulted, too.]

Yeah, it's kind of a long story. [He shoots Veronica an apologetic smile; he is sorry he dragged her into the middle of this, but, well, they're all stuck together here anyway. Welcome to the department of backstory, he guesses.]

Clint here was brainwashed, unfortunately not to act like a chicken, and then Phil was killed by the brainwasher, who was... yeah, named Loki. [He glances up at Phil. Should they go there, tell her this is the real Loki?]

Phi doesn't remember dying, good for Phil, and Clint had already gotten the sense knocked back into him, which begs the big question of not just why we're getting pulled here but how. If I were watching a sci-fi movie, this is the point where I'd start to suspect time travel.

[Which, if aliens can pop over from another universe or wherever and invade Earth, and there are people who can manipulate thunder, why not time travel?]

It's only slightly more brutal than my typical Monday, but I appreciate the sentiment.

[He smiles at her before turning to Bruce.]

I met a woman earlier who thinks different universes. She knows a different me, apparently. She knows a lot of us, actually, but I have no idea who she is. For now, I'm accepting the different universes theory, I guess.

[Not that it's plausible so much as that nothing is.]

The real question is how do we leave. My phone is gone and I don't think these fancy little watches dial out.

And I'm missing my camera, my phone, and my taser.

[But now for the only explanation that makes sense. She points at each of them with a finger.]

So... Which cult are you guys from? I'm guessing not Loki's, right? Right?

They took my watch. [He might actually sound a little whiny about that. His watch, really? Cell phones, okay, sure; you're kidnapping people, you take their phones. But what was he going to do, stopwatch their way out of here? He probably could've used the watch battery for something, but... Still, He's going to whine about it.]

Definitely not from Loki's cult. I'm not really a "cult" kind of guy. Group chanting really gives me the creeps.

[He'll let Phil handle the SHIELD talk if he wants to. Also, multiple universes make sense to him. Well, as much as anything makes sense these days. He radiate himself a super strong alter ego fueled by rage, after all.]

Cults are a little too hands-on for me. I can't even commit to weekly religious meetings. I once briefly considered Scientology, but it turns out I was suffering from moderate head trauma.

[Phil's just going to keep his explanation brief, because he's having a trying day.]

I work for a government agency. Well, several of us do. The uniforms are a little tighter than most cults tend to go for, though.

This must've been some watch, Bruce.

[She looks back to Phil and eyes him up and down. It isn't as hard as someone who actually distrusts or hates him might look at him, more amused.]

I'm from California. I'd be wary of invoking that group's name before Xenu floats down and messes with us. Which... maybe he can give us a lift out. [Veronica crosses her fingers.] Scientology, scientology, scientology. [She looks around and snaps.] Drat!

What government agency is this, exactly?

[He doesn't have a lot of personal items, okay? Bruce smirks at Phil, and then at Veronica. Clearly he's found good people to be around, even if Phil is a G-man.]

Maybe he doesn't come until we have the Kool-Aid party.

Maybe he jumps through the wall like the Kool-Aid man. We need to make this party boring enough that Kool-Aid will spice it up.

[He grins at Bruce before turning back to Veronica.]

I work for SHIELD.

Oh, cool. Yeah, I work for KNIGHT.

Does Kool-Aid man make house calls to kidnapping parties? [She looks to Bruce and points at the guy on the ground.] You need help moving him? I'm good at watching other people work.

[He laughs and is glad he got saddled with Veronica. She's fun; he won't mind keeping an eye on her.]

I guess Phil and I can manage it, but the question is where do we move him to? We probably don't want the Kool-Aid man disturbing him.

We should get him to a bed and preferably away from all of this. He's going to have a hell of a headache when he wakes up. I'm guessing that house has a few nice beds in it.

[He points to a big house over in the direction of the lighthouse.]

Think you can get the front door open for us, Veronica?

Ehhhhhh, I suppose I can. I'll send you the bill, I guess. [She flashes Bruce a grin. Okay. So he has a sense of humor, obviously, and he's not so bad. Probably. Still, it's nice to know there's someone around here who's at least willing to pretend to he likes her, instead of... well, whatever it is that's watching them and is probably going to slaughter them all.]

Are multiple universes really a thing? Maybe I'm just in a coma. [She points at Clint.] Or maybe that guy's in a coma, and we're all just figments of his imagination.

[And the award for worst theory ever goes tooooooooooo...]

I mean, so long as we're discussing outlandish theories...

Sure, let's talk about everything that's not possible just to cross it off the list. It's like getting somewhere.

What do you say, Phil? Heads or tails?

Heads. [He goes to get a grip on Clint.]

There's no way Barton would dream me up. I'm too good.

[Veronica snorts at that.] Maybe you're his dream man. [She backs up to give them more room, looking around with all the other people there with her hands in her pockets. What did all these people have in common?]

No school for summer, I guess. Or fall, as the case may be.

[He picks up his half of Clint and starts in the direction of the house Phil pointed out.]

Who says? This all feels like one big class on our survival and espionage skills.
