[ Alec’s life is far from normal. His first reaction to the new place is that he’s been transported to a demon dimension. The way his life has been going, he wouldn’t be surprised. His hand hovers the hilt of a seraph blade and as he stares down the video with bright blue eyes.]

I don’t know who brought me here. If your sole intention was to kill me, come and find me.

[He was a Shadowhunter, he would rather die in battle than be hunted down like an animal.]

Otherwise, can someone explain why we have been kidnapped? What do they need us for?

Really, that depends on the people. I, for example, am quite easygoing until my friends and family are in danger. Can't speak for everyone, though.

I'm sorry, I've been rude. My name is Balthazar. Charmed to make your acquaintance.

[Alec starts at the name.]

Balthazar is an angel's name.

[Surely no mundane would be stupid enough to claim such a name?]

[This is new and different, indeed. Brigid recognized him as an angel, but that was in person, and after she'd met Raphael. Balthazar is perfectly aware he's a lesser angel, definitely not mentioned in the Bible, and he's happy that way.

On the other hand, being recognized is a bit of an ego boost. There's a moment's pause while he considers whether to out himself or laugh it off. He switched the connection to private and turns the video feed on:]

Normally people recognize it at the name of one of the Magi first, but yes. It's an angel's name. It's my name. Are you a student of mysticism or some such?

I'm not a student, I'm a Shadowhunter. We fight demons in the name of Angels.

[Alec draws his seraph blade partially out of its scabbard. There is awe in his voice.]

Your name is one we use before the battle to activate our blades...I thought you would be taller.

[Way to go, Alec, that was far too blunt.]

[There is nothing like this in Balthazar's world, as far as he's aware. And the fact that his name is used is downright touching. He's never been invoked before. He's almost tempted to preen.

...except, of course, expectations could lead to disappointment for this young man. Case in point!]

Well, normally I'm slightly less than 300 feet in diameter, but this is a vessel. Would you like to discuss this in person?
